Chip Kelly: Colin Kaepernick won’t play this week, will be back next week

AP

Colin Kaepernick’s “arm fatigue” is going to cost him another game, but his return to action should be soon.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, 49ers coach Chip Kelly said Kaepernick would not play Saturday against the Broncos, but that he’s expected back next week and should play in the third preseason game against the Packers.

While Kelly has said he hasn’t made any decision about his starting quarterback, the reality is Blaine Gabbert has a huge advantage.

Not only did Gabbert take all the starter reps through the offseason program while Kaepernick was recovering from a collection of surgeries, but the extended recent break gave him the first two preseason games to himself.

Gabbert was decidedly so-so in the opener, but that might be moot, as Kaepernick hasn’t been available to truly compete, leading to reasonable suspicion about his future there.

  1. “…the extended recent break gave him the first two preseason games to himself.”

And Gabbert probably still won’t do enough to separate himself from the competition. The Denver defense is going to smash him a kin to the preseason game vs the Saints/Alex Smith a few years ago.

Packer fans don’t like to hear that. We all know Kap owns REAL stock in them.

Probably the most clever thing you’ve ever said but it kind of backfired in my eyes. It just proved what I’ve thought all along about you niner fans. You have a great memory but have no concept of time. Yes, kaperchoke owned the packers twice 3 years ago yet the only thing he owns now is bust status and a clipboard. And yes you “had it better” than everyone over 2 decades ago but now the only people you have it better than is the handful of teams that haven’t won a championship since 1995. And really you don’t have it better than them you have it equal to. I wish I was so content with past success. I keep looking for that success currently and in the future. #nobodyhaditbetter

  3. So in California we have Blaine Gabbert and Case Keenum as the starting QBs.

    Ummm….little wow on all that.

Then oh boy….maybe it’s Kaepernick and Goff after that.

    joy.

  4. Kap will start it’s a done deal. Captain check down gives them no chance to win. Chip is smart enough to know that. Kap will have a good year behind the revamped line.

This troll posts more on Niner articles than even his “own” team. Whose reading comprehension and memory are shot. Apparently he repeats things in his brain that sound clever but aren’t, their not even true.

The “Nobody has it better” slogan HARBAUGH used was from his childhood, his dad used it to remind him and his brother “to attack everyday with an enthusiasm unknown to man”. I’d say get a life but that seems out of reach now.

  6. Just a small set back to “The Man”

He will never be on a regular season NFL team again, once the 49ers cut him.

  7. Hawks knocked Humpty Dumpty off the Wall.

Now 49ers can’t figure out how to put him back together again.
