Colin Kaepernick’s “arm fatigue” is going to cost him another game, but his return to action should be soon.
According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, 49ers coach Chip Kelly said Kaepernick would not play Saturday against the Broncos, but that he’s expected back next week and should play in the third preseason game against the Packers.
While Kelly has said he hasn’t made any decision about his starting quarterback, the reality is Blaine Gabbert has a huge advantage.
Not only did Gabbert take all the starter reps through the offseason program while Kaepernick was recovering from a collection of surgeries, but the extended recent break gave him the first two preseason games to himself.
Gabbert was decidedly so-so in the opener, but that might be moot, as Kaepernick hasn’t been available to truly compete, leading to reasonable suspicion about his future there.
