Le’Veon Bell has suspension reduced to three games

AP

Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell will start the season on suspension, but on a shorter suspension than initially expected.

Bell will be suspended for three games, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. He was reported to be facing a four-game suspension for missing drug tests.

It’s the second year in a row that Bell has started the season on suspension, and the second year in a row he has had his suspension reduced. Last year Bell was initially suspended for the first three games of the season but had that reduced to two games.

Bell will now miss Week One at Washington, Week Two against the Bengals and Week Three at Philadelphia before returning for Week Four against the Chiefs.

  1. Missing a drug test is as bad as failing one in the eyes of the NFL. And a repeat offender gets a one year suspension, unless of course you play for the Steelers. Unbelievable.

  2. Players are just gonna start “missing” drug tests in the future and just get a snack on the wrist.. It’s simple math fellas… While you are in the league PUT THE DOPE DOWN!!

  3. No worries folks. The suspension will be 16 games before you know it. Anyone actually believe this dummy isn’t going to get popped again for weed before the three games is up forcing the league to sit him for the whole year? Yeah I don’t believe it either.

  4. So the wheel of justice landed on 3 games after just one spin, I take it. What a joke. Once again, Goodell ignoring collectively bargained rules and doing whatever he wants. Pathetic commissioner.

  5. PUT THE DOPE DOWN!! Good point but they are not that smart. Some of these guys loose millions and give up the chance of a life time over pot too. But its not addictive. Noo!

Last I looked, Bryant got… one year.

You just have to shake your head at the cluelessness here.

    Stop the crying, jealous haters.

  7. I don’t get it. It’s not hard. Don’t do drugs while you’re playing football which is roughly around 10 years. It’s not prison – you do get to do all the things us normal folks who don’t do drugs get to do. Once football is over – there you can do what you please.

Why is that so difficult for players to grasp? Was college really that bad that you couldn’t pick up basic logic skills?

  8. This, along with the Sheldon Richardson one game(!) suspension, constitute clear proof that the Commish doesn’t care what you do as long as you kiss his ring. Previously suspended for off-field issues and in trouble again? No worries. The penalty can be reduced as long as your throw yourself on the mercy of Herr Goodell. Know you are innocent and decide to fight? Prepare to have the book thrown at you.

  9. Can’t blame Goodell on this one, he gave up ruling on these types of appeals. The suspension was reduced by a third party arbitrator selected jointly by the league and NFLPA. But for those posters who just can’t get on with their lives, carry on your obsessive hatred of the commissioner.

not surprised…..Steelers constantly getting a free pass from the league. You’d think getting a break last year would be the last break he gets.

Does Martavis Bryant ring a bell for you? Does a one yr suspension help you remember?…..do you even think before you post your trash?…you need to.

  11. I sure don’t understand any reduction without an explanation. Did he contribute to the United Way? Does he live on the right side of a street? Does his birthday land on a Sunday this year? I do tend to agree his suspension history does not end here.

  12. Wasn’t he suspended three and got a reduction to two last year? So he gets popped again and gets 4 reduced to 3? Must be nice to be a Steeler, you live by a different set of rules.

  13. So he either missed the test…purposely of course….or he didn’t? Which one is it? Did get down on his knees and kiss the emperor’s ring to get it reduced?

    Wow you are a moron.

  16. Why does the league hate the Steelers so much?
(I almost got through that without laughing)

Wow there are some real Einsteins on this forum.

Uh, the point that so many whiners here was making was that STEELER PLAYERS IN GENERAL get “preferential treatment” and anyone else would get “a full season”… then it was pointed out that Martavis Bryant got AT LEAST ONE FULL YEAR, MAYBE MORE for what he did.

You can all stop whining now, and buy some clues.

  18. Brady only got 4 games, you kidding me this guy got suspended last year and now this year, something is wrong and the haters think brady is scum ,you hate because you ain’t.

  19. Leveon Bell got suspended for three games for smoking weed.

Something that will be legal everywhere in 20 years. Ridiculous.

That’s like suspending someone for alcohol, actually, alcohol is worse than marijuana but who needs facts when you have hate for the Steelers.

    Raiders fan

  20. I’d understand the outrage if he brazenly cheated like Tom Brady and Bill Belichick or if he beat his wife like Ray Rice but the guy smoked WEED.

He shouldn’t even be suspended for that.

  21. Hey Snarkie, you were whining about Steelers getting preferential treatment so I guess a year to you is special treatment? Just admit you don’t pay attention to facts when a lie will work.

By the way Bell deserves four games just as Bryant deserves a year….rules are rules….right Patriot fans.

  22. So wait Demarcus Lawrence use drugs the was prescribed by his Doctor after shoulder surgery, he gets four games even after a explanation of why he fail the test, but some who was caught last year ( also a reduce suspension) get it reduce again, wow ROGER you can’t stick to ur own rules.

  23. Mind u this clown got popped with the hilpy lettuce and the NFL let him play the entire year.

What a joke Goodell is. Hes flat out pathetic and incompetent and has no clue what hes doing, errrr, plays favorites when it comes to the Steelers every time.

  24. I fully expected this in all seriousness. Just look at how the NFL handled the last 2 Bengals/Steelers games. The Steelers’ behavior was shameful. Tomlin on the field pregame jawing with players, Shazier spearing Gio helmet to helmet, Muchak pulling Nelson’s hair, Peezy confronting Bengals players…yet nothing was done about any of it. A couple small fines to Peezy and Munchak. Munchak’s fine was rescinded. So basically nothing at all was done to deter that behavior in the future. Burfict was suspended 3 games (no reduction, despite it being his first suspension). Does any of that sound fair or reasonable?

So because Bryant got suspended the NFL should take it easy on Bell? Get some logic. I guarantee if he took those tests he would have failed all of em. He would be lifetime banned. Yet he skips them, as a repeat offender, and gets his suspension reduced?

  26. nowhere did I use the word ‘player’ in my comment. It was a comment about the team in general, which includes the coaching staff.

That Bryant got what the rules say doesn’t discount the fact that your team as a whole has got off easy.

Btw, thanks for the Einstein comment.

On the bright side, he won’t get hurt against the Bengals when the play in Pittsburgh.

    WHO DEY!!!

    ________________________________

why “DEY” is the team who ain’t neva won da supr bowl I thinks. and “DEY” is the team who melted down last year against these steelers ruining their fairy tale season. Dat’s who “DEY’ is.

We got’s 6 a DEM Lomardi trophies here in ‘da ‘burgh. How many “DEY” gots in Sinsinnasti ?

No my friend, I’m afraid it’s you who’s a bit logically challenged here. The point the haters were laughably trying to make with their garbage “preferential treatment” claim is that any other player but a Steeler gets a year suspension, as in “Steeler players don’t get full year suspensions”… that’s why bringing up a Steeler who DID get AT LEAST a year off is relevant to the discussion. And for burying their bogus claim. Duh.
