Teddy Bridgewater didn’t play due to sore shoulder

AP

Pressed for an explanation regarding the failure of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to play Thursday night in Seattle, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said it was his decision. Technically, that’s accurate.

He made the decision, according to Ben Goessling of ESPN.com, because Bridgewater has a sore shoulder. The decision came late, not long before kickoff.

Per the report, Bridgewater would have played if it had been a regular-season game.

The Vikings didn’t disclose the sore shoulder because teams have no obligation to report injuries during the preseason. The first official injury report is due prior to the first regular-season game. For the Vikings, that comes on Wednesday, September 7.

  1. and our fecal performing inbred little sisters to the east has A QB who skips pre season games because “there are too many of them” and “i will try next week when the game counts!” geeesh some people never stop complaining! even Packer fans must be sick of having Mariah Carey as their QB!

  2. That makes more sense. I was afraid our friendly “team” to the west was actually giving their “QB” the franchise treatment. Even Zimmer is smart enough to know that his 27th ranked passer needs all the preseason action he can get.

I hear he hurt his shoulder trying to put on his hamburger helper gloves prior to game time. Isn’t it Adrienne’s job to help him with that?

  3. Is this the straight-talking Zim Vike fans are always telling us about? He’s lies and then is rude and obnoxious to Greg Coleman, the biggest Vike booster out there afte PA. I think I’m starting to see why it took him that long to get a head coaching job.

  4. Now that the coaches are starting to let Teddy throw the ball more, his arm is going to be sore. I just hope they don’t throw his arm out before the season starts, because I believe Teddy is a beast in disguise. He doesn’t have to go out and throw for 300 yards every game for us to win a lot of games this year. As long as he hits a few shots down the field like in the first preseason game, we will be fine. Our defensive front seven is going to be scary and carry us a long way this year. This team is truly building towards something great, and I’ve been a fan and true follower of the Vikes for over 30 years now. If the line stays healthy and can gel a bit better, and we get our kicking situation figured out, the sky is the limit for these men.

  5. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. Teddy’s likable and he seems to be a decent young man. The world needs more Teddy Bridgewaters and less Johnny Manziels. I wish him a long career as Minnesota’s starting quarterback.

Arod, multiple MVPs and SB champ. Teddy, 28 starts, 28 passing TDs. See the difference?

  7. I was waiting for the “He probably hurt his shoulder throwing the ball more than 20 yards in the air twice on the same drive.” troll comment. I like that Zimmer didn’t play him. Shaun Hill sucks and Heinicke probably would have beat him out if he wasn’t busy hurting himself. Stave is not going to be anything more than an arm until Heinicke is healthy. Makes no sense to play TB if he’s not 100 percent right now anyway. A bunch of players don’t play in the preseason. I do know that this season is going to be tougher than some Vikes fans think and I have plenty of confidence in TB, but I am definitely not happy starting the season with the qb’s they currently have behind TB.

I live in Minnesota, born and raised here. What exactly did Zimmer lie about? When asked why TB didn’t play, he said, “Because I decided not play him.” He didn’t offer any phony story or excuse. When pressed, he said the same thing. As pointed out, he’s not obligated to explain any injuries in the preseason. Zimmer may have been curt with Coleman, but he was not rude.
Everyone lauds Belichick for being a genius coach and they think it’s cute the way he scorns the press and fudges the injury report requirements during the season. But now Zimmer is some sort of villain?
Must be a slow weekend in ‘Sconsin.

  9. Guy finally throws one pass over 10 yards in his career and is so sore he misses the next week.

  10. Our Oline and Hill rolled the Seattle Defense. Can’t wait to see what Teddy will do to a mediocre D like Green Bay. The fear is real looking at the thumbs up and down.

  11. Let’s keep this in perspective, we are talking about a QB that ranked in the bottom third of all QB’s last year throwing a mere 14 TD’s on the season. Why all the concern whether he plays 4 pre season games or none at all? It’s not like the pre-season is going to make all that much of a difference once the real games start. Throwing bubble screens, 5 yard down and outs, and quick slant passes does tend to wear your arm out so saving him makes sense.

  12. Ms. Karma says: This one goes out to all the Heidis chortling about the ankle injury to Hundley.

  13. I wish our coach had the stones of Zimmer. Instead the media is like “why didn’t Rodgers play?” And he’s like “I didn’t realize he did?”

Zimmer on the other hand is strategic about everything.
    Kudos Vike fans.

  14. I love Zimmer but if it was a sore shoulder he could have easily said soreness at the press conference instead of building a story with his “my decision” 3 times and then cutting off the reporter. So, not sure I’m believing him right now.

Not really. The only true difference is Rodgers is an aging vet on the back end of his career and Teddy has yet to hit his prime. The true way to compare these two careers would be to compare how well they played in their first 2 NFL seasons.

Teddy threw for 6,150 yards, 28 TDs, 21 INTs and an 87 passer rating. His team went 18-14 his first two years.

Aaron threw for 101 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT and a 44 passer rating. His team went 12-20 his first 2 years.

It’s fair to say Rodgers was the back up QB for a bad team because he wasn’t good enough to even play until year 4.

  16. The players have sore joints and muscles all season I would imagine. I could be wrong and maybe its more than a sore shoulder, but for now it sounds like Zimmer just wants him at 100% for the real season.

  17. We all know pre season games are to settle starting positions and to trim the roster to the limits placed on teams.
Minnesota plays a ball control style of offense with long drives keeping the Defense fresh and the opposing teams D tired, scores will be low.
Teddy had a Perfect QB rating while in against the Bengals starting Defense, he was surgically accurate and between that, Rodgers being sacked, knocked down, hurried, and intercepted,
Green Bay is going to dread playing the Vikings!
You see we are no longer afraid of the Big Bad Pack. The Vikings are the team that will have every Packer fan pulling their hair out and stomping your feet mad, because IF
green lagoon gets to the Playoffs, it will have to be a Wildcard game for the next 5 years.
Minnesota is for real and proved it by sacking Russel Wilson at will, and stuffing their 1st team offense.
Zimmer didn’t lie, and it WAS his call.
Now go outside and play packer trolls.

  18. So Teddy has a sore shoulder. Most Packers have a sore butt and its not from playing football

Must have been that 45 yard “bomb” he threw last week. Poor little guy really gave it all his noodle arm had on that one.

    ———————————————————-

my exact thoughts….plus he had a three or four step running start before he “unleashed” the big hail mary “bomb” …. Cam Newton could throw that distance flat footed….and on a lazer

  20. Poor cheating steroid laced Packers….your D was already bad….and now you’ll lose 2 decent players…ugh.

    ____
Funny because th guy Rodgers was backing up was good enough to be BEGGED out of retirement by Minn. So the Vikings could have a chance at going to their first Superbowl since the Disco era.

  22. Cheese heads all but begging for Teddy to get hurt. Only chance they have to win the Division now.

  23. No Packer fan would ever wish for a training camp injury or fatality. To anyone. On any team.

Unfortunately, Viking fans don’t really care about those things.

  24. Don’t quite get Zim’s cloak of secrecy thing, but if Teddy’s injured, it made no long-term sense to play him. Look how that worked out for the Packer’s second string QB.

Yeah, because most coaches who don’t have to really want to let other teams know about an injury. It’s like a big sign to any rival saying hit the player where it hurts…

No, they’ll just celebrate it, laugh about it and make jokes about people that die in training camp, bridge collapses and work related accidents. Then their kind will also “thumbs up” those jokes and comments.

  28. Wow. The GB trolls are out in force.

After watching the Vikings D sack Wilson continually and hold the SeaHawks first team O to a big ol’ doughnut- they’re getting a bit anxious.

  29. Russell Wilson has been one of the most sacked QB’s over the last 3 seasons. He was the 3rd most sacked last year. It’s nothing new, and even Pete Carroll said that a fair amount of those sacks are on Wilson (similar to Bridgewater, who is responsible for a good amount of his sacks).

    More importantly, it’s preseason.

  30. Summer sits teddy and the packer faithful go insane.

Meanwhile, Rodgers hasn’t played a snap in a preseason game and the same fans understand the move.

  31. Packer fans are anxious for the regular season, so the Vikings can stop over reacting to a 49 yatd TD pass and out playing Seattle’s “starters “

Our oline most definitely did not roll the Seattle defense. The tackles were weak again and Frank Clark was able to do whatever he wanted. There weren’t a lot of sacks, but far too many pressures for such quick passes and not a lot of running room.

  33. Queenies will never field a winner without an elite QB, and that ain’t ol’ noodle-arm Teddy.
