Report: Vontae Davis out until at least October

Colts cornerback Vontae Davis will miss at least the first month of the season, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday.

The report said Davis has ligament damage in his ankle. Earlier in the day, Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Davis would be “week to week” with a medial ankle sprain but didn’t go into much detail on the extent of the injury.

Pagano called his team’s current cornerback situation “scary.”

With Davis out and other players on their cornerback depth chart limping, the Colts agreed to terms with veteran cornerback Antonio Cromartie on Monday night.

Davis, 28, is the Colts’ No. 1 cornerback and has been to the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons. He has 21 career interceptions, eight over the last two seasons.

  1. This is actually a very big blow to the Colts prospects. Vontae Davis is a very talented physical CB. Opposing QBs will take more chances with his absence.

  2. “He has 21 career interceptions, eight over the last two seasons.”

Replace interceptions with children and you’ve got his replacement’s most noteworthy stats

  3. The only hope for this season is to get the best possible draft pick for the next GM.

Grigson has ruined this team to the point of outright desperation and a non playoff season is imminent.

  4. Cromartie is really good and will be a huge pickup for them.

    …if the Colts need a punt returner…

  5. Funny thing how karma works…the two franchises most culpable for Framegate have stumbled ever since. Meanwhile the Pats almost made the Super Bowl with an OL featuring a center playing tackle and 3rd-4th stringers starting all over. Of the three they’re also the only ones with a shot at the playoffs this year 😀

  6. Of course Pagano thinks the CB situation is scary. If you were a coach relying on Grigson to fill any gaps in your lineup you’d think it was scary too.

  7. Of only the Colts were in the same division as the Bills, Dolphins and Jets….Even the Cleveland Browns would be yearly playoff participants a division that featured those 3 teams…I mean those 3 teams have like a combined 2 playoff appearances in the last 10 years….am i right?

Just another entry in what will become a long list of reasons/excuses why their D can’t stop anyone.
Indybear……I’m sure you are familiar with the Bears record lately, right? Hint…..the Bears defense finished with a ranking of 28th last year…..Offense 29th (There are 32 teams in the league)
    Tell Cutler hi.

Week 4 in London is looking a little easier. Wish that game was at home. Thanks Roger
Thank your owner. He’s the one giving away the games.

  10. @crush22 Not really following your obsession with Jay. My Bears had many problems last year for sure. Our unfairly maligned QB was not one of them. Since he had success with second and third teamers last year I expect he will build upon it this year. He should be really starting to light it up around, say, week 5 at the Loser Dome. Looking forward to it.
