Todd Marinovich arrested for drugs, while naked in someone else’s yard

It’s a damned good thing Marv Marinovich never let his son have a Big Mac.

According to Joshua Sudock of the Orange County Register, former NFL quarterback Todd Marinovich was arrested after police found him naked in someone else’s yard with drugs.

The 47-year-old former Raiders quarterback was cited for trespassing, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

The naked part apparently wasn’t illegal.

His father was famously strict on him growing up, banning all junk food as he tried to train a star quarterback. But while the younger Marinovich would go onto become a star at Southern California, his pro game never materialized, and he dealt with drug problems throughout his NFL career and beyond.

  1. Nah, marijuana doesn’t hurt you. Just ask all those who want it made legal.
This guy is Manziel in 20 years or so.

  2. Sad story, encouraging your kid is one thing, demanding he fulfill your dream is quite another.

  3. Word has it there was a brown paper bag with Marijuana, Meth, and Todd’s ID in it. He basically incriminated himself by having his ID with the drugs.

  4. That’s sad. He was featured in a documentary that I saw not too long ago (maybe one of the 30 for 30s?) and he really seemed to be doing well. Hopefully he is able to get clean again.

  5. What a waste of talent. Had that great debut as a rookie in 1991 with 4 tds. Granted the Chiefs picked on him in the wildcard game a week later

But 1992 he showed talent. Beat the Bills and Giants. 395 yards against the Browns in a tight loss but 1983 was a disaster and his career was over.

Frustrating thing is he showed talent. He wasn’t a bust like Dan McGuire etc who showed nothing. Big shame

  6. And all the posters who say Marijuana doesn’t alter your mind and cause odd behavior will still say Marijuana shouldn’t be a banned substance.

Sorry Einstein but there is NO proof whatsoever that MJ caused Todd to be naked or do what he does. And……..Reefer Madness is not a true documentary and should not be relied on for making arguments against the “evil weed”.

  7. I saw that excellent 30 for 30 documentary about Marinovich as well, but was left with the feeling his personal demons could overtake him again. The program ended with Marinovich and his father attempting to repair their relationship after he finished up a treatment program.

Marinovich was talking to the camera at the end of the show and seemed hopeful about his future, but was also candid about his past, and the strong addictions which nearly ruined his life.

Couple of things. Correlation isn’t causation. By your logic Stanley Wilson II (the ex- NFLer shot while naked in someone’s house a while ago) would be on cannabis, but wasn’t. People with mental issues often self medicate, and cannabis is one of those things used. Finally, it’s getting to the point that if the Federal Government is against something, I for one will give it twice the consideration because they are almost always on the wrong side of things no matter which party controls 1500 Penn. Ave. Multiply that by an order of magnitude if Big Pharma is against the same thing.

  9. this was a sad story and a cautionary tale for those that would listen. Instead there are stupid parents all over the country still using it as a playbook on how to screw up your kids.

  10. I don’t think Todd is a bad guy, he just got stuck with a bad dad who was hell bent on living his dreams through his son.

  11. If being naked in someone else’s yard at 47 years of age isn’t illegal, it should be.

I’m betting he’s being nailed with a public indecency charge as well. Nudity in public isn’t really okay anywhere.

Only an absolute imbecile would tie this behavior to marijuana. The chemicals made in China that idiots call synthetic marijuana, that don’t have a shared molecule with actual weed, yes, that would explain this behavior.

    ===============

As a rule the party that controls 1600 Pennsylvania Ave controls the US Treasury located at 1500 Pennsylvania Ave. But by all means have another toke.

  14. It was likely the controlled substance in the bag that got him doing stupid things, not the marijuana. It amuses me how some people think of marijuana.

  15. Ahsum. Didn’t he at least have his Raiders jersey on?

Seriously, speaking for Fan Boys everywhere, dope should be legalized. We all have a right to be happy, yes? What is wrong about buffing it in your neighbors yard while high as a kite?? Rock on #12, we have your back!

(Hey man, does anyone know what day it is?).

Yea I thought/hoped the same thing… Just like the recent “Doc & Darryl” 30 for 30. They seemed to be good and on the straight and narrow now and it just came out that Doc is as bad of an addict as ever.

    Paying attention Johnny Manziel?

    He’s taking notes.

  18. In all these cases where players go over the edge, the father’s always pushed the living hell out of them. Reliving the headlines? Trying to make someone that you weren’t? Just be happy they participate and try their best.It will all come out in the wash.

  19. Just cause he had pot (where he had it on his naked body is beyond me) doesn’t mean it caused him to flip out. He has had serious problems with heroin among other drugs. All the old people who are commenting are pushing their antiquated anti-cannabis beliefs. We didn’t evolve as humans with cannabanoid receptors in our brains by accident. Open your eyes and stop drinking the kool-aid Gramps

  20. Man, stoners sure do get angry and defensive over their precious weed. Just another sign that the addiction is strong.

  21. Can’t help but remember Airplane II:

Mr. Hammen: And how about the time we hopped in the family car and drove all the way to Woodstock?

Mrs. Hammen: Oh, that was a time. You got hold of that bad acid and didn’t come down for two weeks, you kept telling everyone that you were Jesus Christ and then you jumped off a roof ’cause you thought you could fly!

    Mr. Hammen: What a bummer.

  22. While much-deserved, Dude doesn’t need your torchin’ (no pun intended).. he needs major, major psychiatric and chronic-relapse help. I just hope he doesn’t kill anybody or himself. I’m not a fan (never really cared for the guy bcuz of the ego- before the crazy came out), but it’s beyond sad.

  23. What’s really sad is that the Raiders (against my own wishes) drafted him with the 24th pick in the first round, passing over a guy I wanted them to select. That guy was selected in the top of the 2nd round by the Atlanta Falcons. He just entered the Hall of Fame… His name? Brett Favre.

I think that saying that Marinovich was a former NFL QB is taking some liberties.

    ——————————————————————–

1345 yards 8-9 TD/INT and 50.7 comp% in the NFL is enough to be labeled an NFL QB. What is your NFL stat line, Anayltical Kid?

Here is hoping Todd gets the help he needs once and for all. I am pulling for him.

  25. He relapsed, hope he can survive it, pulling for him and remembering the talent

  26. Got his autograph in ’91 preseason at a Dallas hotel! He could’ve been great.. A south paw that wore #12 :). Get well dude…

  27. Marinovich is a weird milestone for me. I must have been 5 years old, just starting to get a handle on the sport intrinsically was (meaning: able to tell Offense and Defense apart without asking for help).

My first basketball game happened to be Kareem Abdul Jabnar’s last game, and they must have been feeding him the ball like crazy because some kind of Star Power was eminating from that player, clearly the best player on the court.

Tying it in to Marinovich, I happened to catch a hated (Seattle, mind) Raiders preseason game and their QB gave me the same Superstar vibe. I pointed him out to my dad, who goes “So what, it’s August.”

It took me a good couple years of watching Marinov
