Teddy Bridgewater throwing again at Vikings practice

AP

The Vikings opted not to play quarterback Teddy Bridgewater against the Seahawks last Thursday and a report emerged in the following days that Bridgewater was bothered by shoulder soreness leading up to the game.

That wasn’t confirmed by the team, but the fact that Bridgewater didn’t throw in practice on either Saturday or Sunday seemed to offer further evidence that all wasn’t 100 percent with his arm. Tuesday’s practice provided reason to believe things are headed back that way.

Bridgewater threw during team drills, although reports from the team’s session indicated that he was mostly throwing shorter passes during the workout. Shaun Hill, who started in Bridgewater’s place, also returned to action after a day off and a day off from throwing to further return things to normal for the Vikes.

Coach Mike Zimmer again passed on saying the shoulder was the reason for Bridgewater’s limited activity in recent days, but hinted that something physical was to blame for holding Bridgewater out last week.

“I told you guys when I first got here I would try and be as transparent and honest as I can and I will be,” Zimmer said, via Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “But there are certain things I’m not going to tell you. If he had an issue with his shoulder, I’m going to make sure that I err on the side of caution. If I played him and he got hurt, you guys would be killing me in the press. I’m always going to protect the players. Im going to do what I think is best for the organization. You’re going to have to respect that.”

If Bridgewater plays against the Chargers in the Vikings’ first game at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, it sounds like it’s safe to assume that Zimmer is convinced that all is well with Bridgewater’s arm, legs and so on down the line.

With so many choices for a QB why would you stay with someone who will never be better than an average ball tosser?
    ______

Because there’s more to playing quarterback than how hard you throw the ball. Good thing you were never coaching Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Fran Tarkenton, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Tony Romo, Bart Starr, etc., etc., etc., or we never would have heard of any of them.

  2. WOW, what over reaction! It is pre season, he already had a perfect QB rating his first Pre Season game this year! It might as well have been a pimple on his Butt!

  3. I just get a kick out of how many people came out and declared….. “Any questions about Teddy’s arm have been answered & put to bed,” after he threw one 40 yd TD in one preseason game.

Now here we are with a sore arm so he can’t throw.

Any reasonable person would say the jury is still out on that arm.

  4. This is Tarvaris Jackson and Christian Ponder all over again. Just like them, Vikings fans will make any excuse under the sun about their newest high draft pick QB for the first 4 years until the reality hits them that he isn’t a franchise QB and the team doesn’t resign him.

Teddy is the definition of mediocre. Just like the other two I mentioned, he just isn’t progressing. Vikings fans always used to say “next year, he’s still young”. We all know how that logic went with the other two.

  5. Looking at that picture, I would call him Teddy Baby Face if he wasn’t already referred to by Packer fans as Teddy Tiny Hands. Can’t you guys use a more flattering picture of Mr. Bridgewater than that one?

  6. Jealous Packers fans can’t wait for Teddy to go out bc that’s their only chance of winning the north. Not. Even if Hill or Stave is playing qb we still win, bc Packers are that weak.

  7. They limited him to shorter throws? So, like pitches and handoffs and stuff?

So, basically, Teddy needs to sit for 4 days after he throws one pass longer than 30 yards. Got it. I’m sure vikes will go far this year.

  8. Hey Teddy! Cordarralle called, he wants his hat back! Just kidding! Love you, man. Skol Vikes! This is going to be the best year ever!

  9. Does Theodore have a breakout year passing the ball or or do the Vikings show they don’t trust him and have him hide behind AP again.

Why would Zimmer get killed? he seems to have immunity after winning the “NFC championship” at GB last year as at least one Vikings fan refers to it.

  10. Vikings fans should keep quiet until their team has actually won a championship. Trolling Packers fans (of all people) just makes you guys look silly….

Ouch, you got us there! You so smart.

  12. Teddy doesn’t need to practice, how hard is it to throw a check down, bubble screen or short slant? Being a Qb in the Viking offense means handing off to the right on first down, handing off to the left on second down, incomplete pass on third, then punt, repeat as often as necessary until you lose.

  13. As a top 15 QB in the league, Teddy should be held out of preseason games and rested if he has any soreness. The coach knows how important Teddy is to the Vikes success, but the fantasy football fans only pay attention to box scores.

  14. When a franchise that was 31st passing yardage has full confidence in their same passer (26th in TD passes), why should anyone else be concerned?

If the game is close they always have a clutch kicker.

  15. My arm hurts for days after I throw over 25 yards, that’s why I’m not trying to pretend I’m an NFL QB like Baby hands, noddle arm Bustwater. Come on guys, you actually think this kid is our future QB????

    SKOL!!!!!

  16. “He was mostly throwing shorter passes”
So in Teddys terms, he was dropping bombs. Sounds like he’s back to 100%.
Some one should warn him next time he tries to throw a ball more than five yards, we wouldn’t want this to happen during the season.

  17. THeodore is a top 15 QB right in front of Tannehill, whom is someone the Phins were hoping to be a Franchise QB but hasn’t quite blossomed yet. The difference is the Vikings have one of the best athletes to ever play RB. He has a limited time though so Theodore needs to start making strides sooner than later.

  18. That picture is from when Teddy auditioned for the new version of Gilligan’s Island.

    ********************************

    Looks like Gilligan.

    Throws like Mary Ann.

I dunno man.. why do people choose to live in Wisconsin?

    Some questions don’t have answers.

  20. Teddy will have a top 10 QBR this year and feast on smug Packer fans tears when they don’t even make the play offs. Gonna be a fun season. The panic in GB will be delicious when they start the season 0-2.

Nahhhh…….I will let BB worry about that. But I may take a ride over to 1 Patriot Place just to admire the four shiny and gleaming Lombardi trophies in all their luster! Something Vikings and Bills fans can only imagine…..

  22. I’m sure that Teddy will be ready to go in week #2 vs. the GB Cheezies when the Vikes unveil their 2015 NFC North championship banner in their new stadium which WON’T be filled with the disgusting, portly Packer fans that flock to Lambeau…

  23. I just can’t get over top 15 quarterback…the Vikings would be 6-10 every year without Peterson, three more seasons before he retires.

    It’s ok little Teddy.

Durability is overrated in football anyway.

I laugh at how TB gets so much attention from the Packers trolls such as yourself. I don’t give one thought about any of the Packers players. I just laugh and point out how the Packers defense failed miserably as a team in OT against AZ. Fitzgerald embarrassing the Packers whole D was the funniest play of the entire season. Almost funnier than the collapse in Seattle the previous year, when the WHOLE TEAM buckled with only a few minutes to the Super Bowl….classic. Failure doesn’t get more epic than choking on a lead with 4 minutes to the big game….

  25. Maybe people could take him a little more seriously if they called him Ted, instead of “Teddy.” “Teddy” sounds puny and weak-armed. If Viking fans continue to call him “Teddy,” I will be forced to assume they agree with me……every time I read it.

  26. Don’t worry about me, guys, just a mild case of camp arm. I’ll be right as rain by Sunday.

Good one. Did you read the recent breakdown of Teddy’s rankings? I think on Football Outsiders? Downfield completion % abysmal, 80%+ of passes were “short”, highest % of play action passes and still couldn’t get it downfield, 15% lower YPA than Carr. Progression issues. And read up on QBR. Teddy had the 4th best QBR game in the league last year when he was 14-18 for 180+ yards. It’s a worthless stat. But use it.

You see when you cherry pick and hope it makes you feel better. But peel back the covers and read facts and expert opinion about your QB. Now if you don’t want reality to punch you in the mug, keep your head buried.

We’ll take Rodgers every game, every year and over anyone else. And we’re confident we’ll be repeating that message the next 6+ years.

  29. until the reality hits them that he isn’t a franchise QB and the team doesn’t resign him…maybe: phins still think Tannehill is a franchise QB, Lions still think Stafford is a franchise QB…go figure…

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    Really?

The Vikings were 7 – 9 in 2014 without Peterson.

And were playing a rookie QB for most of the year.

Peterson only had 67 yards in the last game of the year when the Vikings defeated the Packers for the NFC North Championship.

But don’t let facts get in the way of your diatribe…

  31. Nice to see how concerned the Packer faithful are about OUR QB.

You don’t think they’re whistling past the graveyard . . . do you?

Let’s see, TB was 7-7 as a rookie without AP after taking over a 5-11 team and won Rookie of the Year. Second year, goes 11-5 and wins the NFC North and is something like the 5th winningest QB under the age of 24 in the history of the NFL. If that’s a “mediocre” start to an NFL career, I’ll take my chances. But I know what you mean, God forbid Vikings fans support their QB and be optimistic about their team. The blasmaphy of it all!

  35. NFC North Championship-really… maybe you could borrow a ladder from the Colts to hang up that momentous banner in your new stadium…what a desperate fan base if that is your bragging achievement. Not a Packers fan but they have real trophies in their case…just say in.

  36. Cribbage.. Nobody said Teddy was better than Rodgers. Rodgers is one of the best all time, it’s a shame that Ted Thompson continues to prevent him from winning another Super Bowl. I’ve watched enough Vikings games to realize Teddy needs protection before we know if he’s good or great. If he puts up the same stats with better protection, there’s a problem. I’d be willing to bet he makes a Drew Brees (year 3) type bump in production this year. 25 TD’s would put the Vikings back in the playoffs as division champs. Teddy>Carr>Bortles

Go ahead and make fun of Teddy and Walsh if it makes you feel any better, but remember your beloved team lost to them at home while losing the division at the same time. Go Pack go!

  38. This might hurt Teddy more than his shoulder:

Losers: First-round receiver Laquon Treadwell’s inability to separate was hard to miss in Minnesota’s second preseason game. It’s wild that Adam Thielen is a better bet for early-season snaps than Treadwell.

  39. OK so sometimes the trolls become low lying fruit but we must not be tempted! Just ask yourself how is it that they are here in the first place? Of course we all know the answer to that! Teddy Bridgewater is going to double his output as far as the Offense goes and if he wants dink and duck it down the field with the best rungame in the league then so be it! But that is not the end of the story, he does have some weapons, and this being a physical team just ask the Seachickens how physical a team the Vikings are or maybe the trolls already know this because their team has suffered at the hands of the Mighty Vikings! The Offensive line is key to all of this, the teams in that division had Qb’s that were running for their lives so whoever improves and has a functional O line will be dominant! No way will those hail mary’s be completed on a Vikings defense, anyway it will never get that close, this defense is for real!

  40. All they ever say is you have no super bowls like other teams don’t. They are not easy to win and there are 32 NFL teams today. I don’t understand all the Bridgewater hate either. He just protects the football the most important thing for a QB. They just need to open it up more Norv Turner and Zimmer are too predictable on offense. They got all the pieces though if they can stay healthy.

  41. Where is the line drawn on when a Super Bowl win becomes irrelevant in relation to poor attempts at trolling?

The Packers won a Super Bowl six years ago? Cool story. That must mean they’re still the best team in the league this year. It’s just a fluke that they couldn’t take their division last year from a team they try to portray as the worst in the league, because they have a trophy case, (despite the last time it was opened).

I love some good trolling, but Packer and Vikings fans alike on this site are getting terrible at it.

  42. Are we all just going to gloss over the fact that Gerbschmidt is suggesting that he has a “Minnesota friend?”

  44. packers better hope they don’t play a NFC West team in the playoffs this year. They can’t beat them. In fact the packers choke when they play them. But not always sometimes they just get beat by a better team. It is a shame TT hasn’t improved the defense to take some of the pressure of Aaron. But paying $13 million a year to Fabio has its consequences. Like going 2 weeks without a tackle from your ILB. Fabio is so overrated.

It’s not that, The Vikings fan base has buit him uo SO much and they can’t be taken Seriously so it rubs off on him. I have no beef with a guy byt if your going to look at him with the purple glasses. When he makes one preseason TF throw for 5p yards and all his arm.issues are “solved” it’s a bit over tbe top.

  46. Not stellar,

The biggest difference is the Bridgewater-led offense. Whew.Be afraid Viking fans, be very afraid.
    ))))))))))))))))))))))

They Vikings had the fewest 3 and out drives in the NFL last year.

  47. The less than stellar poster obviously has never heard of Sammy Baugh, Sonny Jurgenson, Johnny Unitas.

They did pretty good with using a nickname ending in “y”…
