Bengals tell Dalton to stop trying to make tackles

The Bengals’ Super Bowl hopes were dealt a huge blow last year when quarterback Andy Dalton broke his hand trying to make a tackle. That won’t happen again.

That’s the word from Bengals cornerback Adam Jones, who said this morning on PFT Live that it has been stressed to Dalton that if there’s an interception, a fumble or anything else that might result in Dalton taking an unnecessary hit, he should get as far away from it as possible.

“We’ve made that clear here. We’ve made that clear. Whatever happens, he needs to run his ass back to the sideline,” Jones said.

Dalton has played well in limited action in the preseason, completing 11 of his 14 passes for 110 yards. More importantly, he has avoided contact. Continuing to avoid contact when the real games start may be the key to the Bengals finally winning a playoff game, for the first time since 1990.

  1. We all saw Dalton’s replacement do something Dalton hasn’t been able to do, come back and give the team a chance to win at the end. (Before those two idiots blew it)

The delusional Bungals fans don’t want to admit it though.

  2. Step one…stop throwing interceptions.
    Step two…stop fumbling the ball.
Step three…well look at that, our chances of winning a playoff game just skyrocketed!

  3. C’mon be honest…..the Bengals have no actual SB hopes…… They are as realistic as me expecting to win the lottery. Heck, how long has it been since the Bengals even won a single postseason game?

  4. Lol at all the Bengals haters whose team can’t sniff their record since Dalton has been the starting qb.

You guys sound silly. Unless your a Bronco, Pat, Seahawk, or GB fan.

I’d say fans of the Panthers, Colts, Jaguars, Titans, Jets, 49ers, Rams, Steelers, Ravens, Redskins, Cowboys, Saints, Chiefs, Giants, Buccaneers and Falcons (all the teams who have won playoff games in the last 15 years) would disagree….

And year after I laugh at this notion as short mined Bengal fans continue to be confused on what SUCCESS really is. Obviously the regular season matters… obviously… but when you become a perennial playoff team that’s on a 5 year straight One-n-done streak there simply has to be a point when yall realize what’s worth bringing to the convo and what’s not. Never heard one single Ravens or Steelers fan talk about how awesome their 2013 regular season record was smh or how many passing yards someone had in 2014. Sadly the lack of winning has made some Cincy fans (Nurse Rustbelt I’m looking at you) confused on what success really is.

Annnnnd ALL the other teams that have, you know, at least ONE playoff win in the last 26 years.

Enjoy those regular season wins though!!

  8. The Bengals were a good team last year and AD was having a super season. The two idiots who could not control themselves lost that playoff game. Up until that point I expected the playoff drought to end. My guess is this year the drought does end.

  9. Oh one other thing – I would guess that, if playing in the SuperBowl, the rule would be relaxed and he would be allowed to try to recover his own fumble.

  10. Baby steps. Next thing is to tell him to stop throwing Ints to D-lineman, then to stop throwing into double coverage, to eventually telling him to just stop playing football altogether. Part of their plan to secure a playoff win.

  11. This is exactly what all teams should be telling their QB’s. They aren’t paid to play defense. Considering the drop off from first to second string for most teams, this should be the status quo for the league. Didn’t the the Broncos QB just get hurt trying to play defense. This is what the NFL has come to. Get used to it.

  12. Sure are a lot of squealer fans on the Bengals post. That’s cool, I would not want to read and root for drug addicts and criminals either. Go ahead and dip in on the good times over here. I don’t fault that.
