Bears backup quarterback Connor Shaw needs surgery after suffering a broken leg in Saturday’s preseason game vs. the Chiefs.

Bears Coach John Fox told reporters the team will know more about the extent of the injury after Shaw has surgery. He was injured when he was hit by Rakeem Nunez-Roches of the Chiefs while making a pass.

The Bears claimed Shaw via waivers earlier this summer — and had company in wanting to secure Shaw’s rights.

Shaw signed with the Browns as an undrafted rookie in 2014 and spent the season on the practice squad before being promoted to start the season finale. He spent last season on injured reserve.

  1. Really feel awful for this kid. He was the best offensive player on the field for the Bears today and the only QB on their roster who the other players seem to respond to at all. Such is life for the Bears though.

Of course with the garbage they are trotting out there dressed as O Linemen, this had to happen at some point I guess. Pace has the privilege of cutting 15 guys by Tuesday and if 6 or 7 of them are from the OL that would be a start.

  2. Has to be real tough given that he was injured last year too. I have not been able to see the hit…no one wants to run it I guess. He looked so good that he’ll get another look next year.

  3. Watched it in real time. Was a clean hit in a collapsing pocket. I guaranty there is no one on the Chiefs that wanted anyone to get hurt in a meaningless preseason game. Hopefully the players will negotiate in the next CBA to stop these crappy games

  4. He was the only QB on the BEARS that gave a dayum today. Sad to see this happen. Shaw and the punter O’Donnell was the only bright spots of the day. SMH

  5. jredshoes is right, I saw it in real time too, the hit was legal. Poor kid, it was gruesome, looked like he broke both fibula and tibia. And he was looking really sharp. Such a shame.

  6. Browns should not have cut Shaw. Maybe best QB on their roster. But. Now we will never know.
