Peyton Manning makes Tom Brady joke during Rob Lowe roast

During the long and winding road that led from the AFC title game in 2015 to the four-game suspension that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will serve this year, emails from Brady speculating about Peyton Manning retiring long before him and touching on other thoughts about the Broncos became public.

Brady apologized to Manning, who shrugged it off by saying “I’ve been roasted before and that is not roasted” before mentioning Comedy Central roasts in particular. Manning still hasn’t been the guest of (dis)honor at one, but he took part in a roast of Rob Lowe that will air on the network soon. Clips have been circulating to promote the show, including one that sees Manning quip about Brady and Deflategate while referencing Lowe’s unsuccessful attempt to break the news of Manning’s retirement in 2012.

“But, hey, I don’t worry about Rob Lowe,” Manning said. “He is a workhorse and, heck man, if they ever stop casting you on sitcoms just look on the bright side. You tried to take the air out of my retirement announcement so fast, you can probably get a job as Tom Brady’s ball boy.”

Manning, who regularly called Brady a friend when asked about the Deflategate charges, got a laugh from the crowd but might be the one sending a note of apology this time around.

  1. He isn’t the first or last to reference deflated balls in a joke. It is the low hanging fruit, and shouldn’t require any apology to Brady. It is a harmless joke.

  2. “Manning, who regularly called Brady a friend when asked about the Deflategate charges, got a laugh from the crowd but might be the one sending a note of apology this time around.”

Not sure if you’ve ever seen a roast before, but this is one of the most mildest jokes I’ve ever heard on the show. Not surprised you would take offense though. You’re a liberal who makes a living and a lifestyle out of being offended. #Redskins

  3. I am the biggest Patriots homer there is. But Pats fans, please, please, please don’t make us all look bad by getting even slightly angry about this. It’s a joke. Please, and thank you.

  4. Manning had his chance in head to head match ups with Brady but, despite a great career, the cold hard football fact is that Brady was clearly the superior player and winner. There is no shame in coning in second to Brady.

  5. Tom Brady’s email said Manning had 1-2 years left and people doubted him.

    Guess who was right?

    🙂

  6. Let’s see some gullible dope tell us they still think that HGH shipped to PEDton’s house really was for his wife.

    🙂

  7. Peyton Manning was a good quarterback and I absolutely love all the commercials he does. He is a natural comedienne. But I personally don’t think he has ever been as good a QB as Brady. I’m not even going to address the HGH and Deflategate crap because too many trolls have that covered and it’s just getting boring now.

  8. OMG. Pats fans heads are going to explode. 300+ posts trashing Manning, 15 posts saying it was a joke

  9. I read the Brady / Manning book and don’t believe a word that these two are “friends”. I believe that Brady thinks Manning is overhyped scum.

  10. Throwing rocks in glass houses Payton??? Tom would have more class than to make jokes about HGH, sending henchmen to scare people or tea bagging a woman trainer. Payton thinks he’s above everyone else, they are just little people…

  11. Wow. I don’t believe this is even real.

Here is a guy who admittes to cheating and having PEDs sent to his residence and he lies for Goodell with framegate at a roast?

Are we sure this is a legit quote from Gomer?

  12. Peyton undergoes 3 major neck surgeries, has HGH delivered to his house and then returns to break all passing records. He then hires to men to visit the whistle blower who then suddenly recants his story. Nothing to see here I guess. That’s right, Peyton was a choke artist so he is not hated.

  13. Says the guy that used his wife and the mother of his children as his own personal fall guy.

Nothing sticks to him because of his deflector shield of a head.

  14. Just another reason to love Manning. Everyone outside of one small Provence is making fun of deflategate and brady’s suspension. It’s karma folks.

  15. The whole Manning vs Brady thing is silly. If anything it was Manning vs Belichick all those years. It was Belichick who came up with defensive schemes to shut down Manning’s offense. The Patriots could have started a high school QB in place of Brady and the outcome would have been pretty much the same.

  16. For those of you that believe Brady is better than Peyton must remember that Tom has had a tremendous advantage over Peyton, Brady was gifted with Spygate. How do you compare the two men when one knows what defense is coming and has a live feed when the other does not? You can’t compare them because they were not playing on a even playing field. Tom has played his entire career with illegal advantages.

He was just following Cris Carter’s advice, but he went a step further and married his “fall guy”, wives can’t be forced to testify against their husbands in a court of law.

Yet, Tom Brady apologized to Pay-a-ton over a leaked, PRIVATE e-mail where he gave his private, professional opinion on how much longer Pay-a-ton would play. Did he need to do that? No, he just has more class than Pay-a-ton. I’m sure Brady won’t be holding his breath waiting for Pay-a-ton to show him the same courtesy.

  19. As a Pats fan I see nothing wrong with the joke, pretty funny actually, I wonder if Peyton thought of it himself. Now that the door is open some however……….Brady is pretty witty in his own right. I have no doubt there will be some harmless banter going on at some point. We may not see it, but I can only imagine it will occur.

  20. Switch, get your facts straight, that private email was not leaked. It was part of the documents that the NFLPA submitted to the Court. Any citizen or new agency was able to get them through the courts. So if you read one, it was by your choice. And, it was requested by the NFL of any emails that had any relevance to the deflation or inflation of footballs. Why the Union submitted an email regarding Peyton Manning, I just don’t get.

Tee hee 🙂 There really are some gullible people out there who believe that “untold” book 🙂

I’m sure that author was counting on that and laughing at taking their money.

    🙂

  22. “Manning had his chance in head to head match ups with Brady but, despite a great career, the cold hard football fact is that Brady was clearly the superior player and winner. There is no shame in coning in second to Brady.”

In head to head match ups in the playoffs Manning is 3-2 including beating Brady 3 straight times in the AFC championship and outplaying Brady all 3 times. In 2 of those games, the Patriots chances ended with a Brady interception. Manning and Brady both had the same QB rating in the playoffs while Manning had a better regular season rating. In no way was Brady superior.

  23. Just so you know that “untold” book is a complete fabrication and has absolutely zero evidence or basis in fact.

How do I know this? The author himself said so.

    So gullible…. suckers.

    🙂

  24. People on this site are so ill informed they act as if “Spygate” meant Brady had a crystal ball that showed him the coverages beforehand. They were playing on an even field and the only times Manning won was when Brady had an inferior team as a whole. I dont think the joke is that big of the deal, just hope Megahead isnt mad when someone throws a HGH or teabagging jab at him in the future

Apologize for what? As far as roasts go, that’s pretty mild.

    ———–
That was my thought as well. This was tame compared to the other jokes that were leaked out from this roast. Some of them were brutal, especially the ones aimed at Ann Coulter. (Although IMO, she deserves them.)

  26. Sorry Fritz but the 4 Super Bowl rings are the only stat that matter. Don’t forget Tom has never been embarrassed in a super bowl unlike the time Manning faced Seattle, that 43-8 loss sure is an embarrassment . The same team Tom beat 28-24, leading the Pats in a 14 point 4th quarter come from behind win.
No contest who the GOAT is TB 12!!!

  27. Then I guess Terry Bradshaw and Jim Plunkett are better than Dan Marino. As the saying goes, “Football is the ultimate team sport” The Seahawks that Brady faced were not the same team Manning did. Injuries destroyed the legion of boom and then Jeremy Lane getting hurt on one of Brady’s 2 horrible interceptions degraded them even more. Then Brady was sulking on the bench when Seattle made what is wide considered the worst play call in Super History to lose the game.

  28. Stay classy Payton. Greatest regular season quarterback in NFL history. Sorry you played in the BRADY ERA-

  29. “In head to head match ups in the playoffs Manning is 3-2 including beating Brady 3 straight times in the AFC championship and outplaying Brady all 3 time”

    And then you say

“Football is the ultimate team sport”

Sure looks like like a contradiction to me 🙂

So is it only a team sport when a QB you don’t like wins or is it a team sport all the time?

    #FunnyLogic

  30. I was using his own logic against him. I would never call a player the GOAT based on team victories. John Stallworth, Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris all have 4 rings. None are even in discussion for GOAT.

LOVE the excuses 🙂 Sherman, Kam, Bennett, Thomas were all there for both games. Ya got beat and Brady did it to you. Greatest Super Bowl comeback in history. There is no shame in losing in a hard fight to the very best.

And no it was not the worst call in Super Bowl history, you only think it was because it didn’t work. If it did work you would be calling it genius.

  32. I was using his own logic against him. I would never call a player the GOAT based on team victories. John Stallworth, Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris all have 4 rings. None are even in discussion for GOAT.

There’s a reason why wins are indeed tracked for quarterbacks despite what some people think.

Because wins and rings are what it’s all about.

When you talk about who is the GOAT for quarterbacks, you have to compare guys from different eras and there is absolutely no sensible way to do that other than using wins and rings. Wins and rings level the “playing field” between eras.

Brady is the winningest QB in postseason history, plus his 4 rings speak for themselves. And he has some excellent stats to augment it. It’s all right there in black and white.

  33. Then you’re saying Terry Bradshaw is much better than Aaron Rodgers. By your logic using wins to compare eras John Stallworth is better than Calvin Johnson. Franco Harris is better than Barry Sanders.

“When you talk about who is the GOAT for quarterbacks, you have to compare guys from different eras and there is absolutely no sensible way to do that other than using wins and rings. Wins and rings level the “playing field” between eras.”

  34. Quiz:

Which QB has to date played in 71% of the AFC conference championship games that have been played throughout his career, the highest by far out of anyone else at the position?

Which QB has to date played in 43% of all the Super Bowls that have been played throughout his career, again the highest by far out of anyone else at the position?

    Discuss among yourselves. I’ll wait!

    🙂

  35. Which QB had the greatest coach of the last half century?

Which QB spent most of his career playing for John Fox, Jim Caldwell and Gary Kubiak?

“Which QB has to date played in 71% of the AFC conference championship games that have been played throughout his career, the highest by far out of anyone else at the position?

Which QB has to date played in 43% of all the Super Bowls that have been played throughout his career, again the highest by far out of anyone else at the position?

  36. Then you’re saying Terry Bradshaw is much better than Aaron Rodgers. By your logic using wins to compare eras John Stallworth is better than Calvin Johnson. Franco Harris is better than Barry Sanders.

    Not at all.

I’m only talking about quarterbacks. No other position has wins and losses tracked. In a team sport, it’s telling that W-L are indeed tracked for quarterbacks.

And you can’t compare Bradshaw and Rodgers by any measure other than wins and rings. It can’t be done objectively. The stats don’t matter, it was a different game. And there is no tangible way to say for sure how each of them would play in the other’s era.

Wins and rings are the only sensible way to discuss the GOAT. They are a statement of how you are against your peers in your era and that is a tangible measurement. Stats certainly add to the argument but they are not THE argument like wins and rings are.

  37. That’s the first flaw in your argument. While the QB is the most important player, in a team sport no one should be judged solely by wins and losses. Fact is there’s no foolproof way to compare players in a team sport especially in different eras. Teammates, coaches, level of competition…too many variables. The fact you think Bradshaw is better than Aaron Rodgers, Jim Kelly, Warren Moon, Brett Favre, Dan Marino proves that.

“I’m only talking about quarterbacks. No other position has wins and losses tracked. In a team sport, it’s telling that W-L are indeed tracked for quarterbacks.

  38. “Which QB had the greatest coach of the last half century?”

    —Tom Brady 🙂

“Which QB spent most of his career playing for John Fox, Jim Caldwell and Gary Kubiak?”

    — If you mean Peyton Manning then did you forget Tony Dungy? 🙂 Excellent coach. So is John Fox. Took the expansion Panthers and 2013 Broncos to the Super Bowl. Caldwell has a SB appearance. Kubiak has a ring. That isn’t a list of horrible coaches you had there. 🙂

  39. Let’s clarify “The Brady Era”…he won 3 SBs as a game manager than in the last 10 years when he came into his own and became the Tom Brady we know he won one…and to be charitable let’s just say it could have gone either way. In comparison, Manning and Roethlisberger have won 2.

“Stay classy Payton. Greatest regular season quarterback in NFL history. Sorry you played in the BRADY ERA”

  40. Brady ERA in 15 years
10 AFC Championship Games won 6
    6 SuperBowl Games won 4
    13 division titles
    11 Pro Bowls

    nough said

  41. No, that’s why I said most of his career. Dungy was good, but no Belichik and it’s debatable whether he should even be in the HOF. The other coaches have all recently been fired for good reason. They’re average at best.

“If you mean Peyton Manning then did you forget Tony Dungy?🙂 Excellent coach. So is John Fox. Took the expansion Panthers and 2013 Broncos to the Super Bowl. Caldwell has a SB appearance. Kubiak has a ring. That isn’t a list of horrible coaches you had there. 🙂”

  42. That’s what people do when they feel inferior. Peyton is just doing what all the fans of Patriot rivals do. If you can’t beat em’, make dumb accusations.

  43. Yup…as far as team success goes no one’s done better than Brady. But…name me another top QB who wouldn’t have won those first 3 SBs..

    “Brady ERA in 15 years
10 AFC Championship Games won 6
    6 SuperBowl Games won 4
    13 division titles
    11 Pro Bowls”

Geez thought this debate was long over. They both have the same playoff QB ratingyou say?..You realize that doesn’t bode well for Manning right? I mean Brady was a mere “game mananger” for his first 14 playoff games and only won because he had the better defense right? Meanwhile Peyton had the offensive juggernaut but a not so great D so he needed to put up the points…There is also the fact Peyton had a lot more ist round wild cardgames at home in his nice comfy dome while Brady often started in round two against better teams…I could go on and on but saying they have the same post season rating is actually another point for Brady. Not to mention Brady’s rating actually lead to a lot more wins

  45. Every time limakey posts that same made up drivel about helmet feeds it make me believe that someone that doesn’t play football must be hearing voices in their helmet.

The joke is how the Pats expect you to buy deflation science that only exists on one side of the field… Theirs.

    ———————————————————–

Those with more than 2 working neurons understand that the Colts footballs also deflated. The NFLS measurements showed that. The measurements were not as dramatic as the patriots measurements because the colts footballs were outside prior to the game because the colts were the visiting team.

Also the patriots had the ball longer in the 1st half while the colts footballs were being kept in a plastic bag. The colts footballs did not get as wet and they were also allowed to warm up indoors while the patriots footballs were all being measured twice.

The joke is that dimwits haven’t noticed that the NFL hasn’t released the NFL PSI information that was collected during the 2015 season. That information will show that footballs deflate naturally when cold and wet.

The start of the 2016 season is just days away and that PSI information from the 2015 is still being kept secret because it shows that deflategate never happened and the Patriots are being cheated by the rest of the NFL.

  47. Not a Colts or Broncos fan, but definitely Peyton Manning is best ever. I am glad he got the upper hand with the jokes. Brady is such a pompous arse.

  48. I bet he practiced that speech for an ENHANCED PERFORMANCE to avoid GAGGING on his lines. Relax, it’s just a little CHOKE, no need to SHOW YOUR ASS by BLAMING SOMEONE ELSE.

  49. There is no shame in coning in second to Brady.

    ——————————————–

Actually Bradshaw and Montana come in second and third to Brady. Manning would be in a distant tie for 4th at best, but I believe the big game failures would make even that a tough argument.

Limabean, get your own facts straight. Just because the information was available doesn’t mean it wasn’t leaked to the media. It was handed to them on a platter, they didn’t have to go looking for it.

  51. “There is no shame in coning in second to Brady”

There is no shame in coming in second to Montana. He accomplished 4 Super Bowls in 9 years while it took Brady 15. He had a far better QB rating than Brady and never threw an interception. The quality of opposition was much tougher too. Brady never faced competition like the 1980s Bears, Redskins or Parcells/Belichik Giants.

  52. Yup. The Manning brothers OWNED Tom Brady in the playoffs.

-Not a Colts or Broncos fan, but definitely Peyton Manning is best ever. I am glad he got the upper hand with the jokes. Brady is such a pompous arse-

  53. Brady played great in the 6 bowl trips he led his team to. Manning was horrible in 2 of 4 and bad in the other two. Manning nor any other QB ever did what Brady did in the 4th quarter against Seattle’s defense (witness Manning the previous yr). Like Rodney said you could always count on Manning to make the big mistake in the biggest moments.

Bradshaw and Montana were also great when it counted but played for stacked teams against lesser competition in the pre-free agency era. I don’t doubt they could have done well against stiffer competition, they were winners. Manning was talented of course but just choked up under pressure. Brady, Bradshaw and Montana didn’t win every playoff but none of them ever gagged.

  54. Brady had a nice drive at the end of the first SB, but until that point only threw for 100 yards. In the next one he did great, but in the one after that he barely threw for 200 yards. Any top 10 QB could have won those games. In the 2 SBs against the Giants he under-performed. They had the top scoring offense in history and scored 7 points in the first 55 minutes. Even the Broncos did better against the all time great Seahawks defense. Brady had a great 4th QB against the Seahawks but that was made possible by Lane getting hurt on one of Brady’s 2 interceptions. His replacement was beat for the winning TD. Also Remember Sherman and Kam were banged up.

“Brady played great in the 6 bowl trips he led his team to. Manning was horrible in 2 of 4 and bad in the other two. Manning nor any other QB ever did what Brady did in the 4th quarter against Seattle’s defense (witness Manning the previous yr). Like Rodney said you could always count on Manning to make the big mistake in the biggest moments.”

  55. Brady’s had some great 4th Q drives but has also thrown some terrible interceptions. In the 2 AFC Championship losses to Manning and the AFC Championship loss to the Ravens, the Patriots chances ended on Brady interceptions. Against the Broncos he had Gronk wide open for the tying score but got picked off throwing into double coverage instead. Somewhere Brett Favre is laughing. Then you have all the SB interceptions, while Montana had none.

“Bradshaw and Montana were also great when it counted but played for stacked teams against lesser competition in the pre-free agency era. I don’t doubt they could have done well against stiffer competition, they were winners. Manning was talented of course but just choked up under pressure.
