Adam Gase: DeVante Parker has to learn “how to push through certain kinds of pain”

The Dolphins will play without wide receiver DeVante Parker on Thursday night after Parker hurt his hamstring during Monday’s practice.

It’s not the first time Parker’s hamstring has forced him off the field this summer and a foot injury hindered the 2015 first-round pick for most of his rookie season. On Tuesday, Dolphins coach Adam Gase referenced Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas overcoming injury issues early in his career and said Parker needs to do “all the little things” needed during the week to make sure that you’re able to go on Sunday.

“Sometimes it takes some guys more time to learn more than others,” Gase said, via the Miami Herald. “Eventually you get tired of being the guy standing on the sideline. I do think he’s a little frustrated. He’s been the odd man out all the time. Eventually … he will know how to push through certain kinds of pain.”

Jarvis Landry remains the top target in the Miami passing game, but the preseason has seen Ryan Tannehill look for Kenny Stills more often than Parker. The absences from practice may play a role in that, which gives Parker more incentive to figure out a way to remain on the field as much as possible in the weeks and months to come.

  1. The title is a tad misleading. It sounds like Gase is calling him out and really he is just making an observation probably in response to a specific question. Tired of seeing him on the sidelines though. Starting to smell like a bust.

  2. If you rush a ham string injury you risk aggravating it, and the player can miss a lot more time, even the entire season.
Better to wait an extra week or two.

  3. He’s a tremendous talent but seems very brittle. The South Beach version of Sammy Watkins.

Things have changed. In the ‘good old days’ Don Shula would have just told him to take the needle and get with the program or take a bus and go home.

  5. As a close friend of the organization this is mighty disappointing as the team needs that target to stretch the field and take the top off of those division defenses.
Jarvis Landry excels in traffic but he cannot give Miami that pop they need. Should have maybe traded back for Treadwell as they had planned.

  6. He should force painkillers down his throat like bitter Don Shula used to do to his players.

  7. Yeah, what Gase said. If Parker is on my fantasy team and spends his time on the sidelines instead of playing through minor injuries, I’ll be almost as pissed as Gase. At least it’s only preseason, so now is the time to get well, Parker!

Come on Gase……a Miami Dolphin never tires of standing on the sideline as long as the checks keep rolling in baby!!!!!

With teams like the titans on the schedule, one could go with half the roster and win.

  9. He’s probably fine. Just wants to get the season started and be ready. Everybody different. Hopefully experience will let him know he just has to get on with it. Practice is going to work and game day is the icing on the cake that makes all that grind worth while.
