Eric Reid kneels with Colin Kaepernick during national anthem

Colin Kaepernick is still not standing for the national anthem.

And this time he has company.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers quarterback was joined by safety Eric Reid during the playing of the anthem before tonight’s game against the Chargers (on military appreciation night in San Diego). Both opted to take a knee.

After the anthem was played, the two embraced and went about their business.

Reid’s move is a tangible show of support for all the heat Kaepernick has taken in the last week, and makes it clear he’s not alone.

  13. The true outrage is not Colin Kaepernick refusing to stand for the national anthem on military appreciation night, it’s that military appreciation night is the 4th preseason game. Who the hell wants to watch the 4th preseason game?

  15. Given the fact that tonight was Military Appreciation night, anyone who chose to protest in front of our Armed Forces displayed disrespect to their host city and its fans. To avoid any distraction, they should have remained in the locker room until after the national anthem was played.

  18. The best way out of this situation, that I can see is … stop reporting on who is doing this. Just let them do it and no one says anything.
    Personally, I think they should stand. You don’t need to sing, but stand.

  22. There are two sides to every issue and everyone either takes one publicly or takes one but shows neutrality. I served 21 years and while I don’t like what he is doing can’t say it goes against what I served for. What bothers me is the side he is taking. If against the police then he is for the other guy. And that side has chosen to ambush and shoot to kill. And the pig/police socks. That stereotypes police in a disparaging way which is one of the definitions of racism. It’s always funny and acceptable until used to hurt. Kind of like black comedians using race as a joke then everyone complain about a white comedian doing the same. We need to get our standards right and look at the cause of why all of this is happening and not react to the symptoms. Ninety people were killed by gun in Chicago in August alone including the sister of a basketball star. Blacks. Killing blacks. Not a cop involved in the shootings. But maybe those lives don’t matter or Colin would be taking the stance of all lives matter, including the vast majority not killed by police. That ocean of people carrying guns to settle their disputes. And we single out the police incident for “fame”.

    What would be even better is if some white players joined in to show solidarity with those families who have lost innocent loved ones at the hands of unchecked police abuse of authority. We’re all human, regardless of the color of our skin.

  27. The problem here is we have African Americans protesting as Africans have a tendency to do. Hell, I’m Swiss American but you don’t see me yodeling to support a cause – instead I stand for the National Anthem as any good American is proud to do. I’ve said all I have to say.
