Chiefs cut Aaron Murray loose

The Chiefs had tried to trade quarterback Murray. They didn’t find a partner, so now they have parted ways with the 2014 fifth-round pick.

Murray, a fifth-round pick in 2014, has been waived, per a source with knowledge of the situation.

The third-year player’s source was likely sealed when the quarterback drafted by coach Andy Reid in Philadelphia became available to be signed. With Nick Foles in the fold, a numbers game arose that Murray ultimately lost.

A four-year starter at Georgia, Murray was regarded as a steal when picked by the Chiefs in round five. He now can be plucked off the waiver wire by any team that needs a quarterback.

Two have clear needs; the Cowboys have dibs over the Vikings.

  1. In all seriousness, there were quite a few Vikings fans on here (the day after Teddy’s injury – look it up) telling the Vikings to trade for Murray. Sad thing is, he probably would be an improvement for them.

  2. As summer turns to fall, the Vikings are once again desperate to find a QB.

Spielman has a well established pattern of extreme incompetence at QB dating all the way back to Miami. At least the Dolphins were smart enough to fire him.

  3. I liked Murray coming out of college. I also have a lot of faith in Scott Turner as a QB coach. I think he is worth look…bring the guy in for a workout, meet with the coaches and kick the tires. Its not like there is a plethora of talented NFL ready QBs to choose from.

Went one pick before the Bengals took McCarron who will probably bring back a 1st round pick next year when they trade him.

Number$ – wise, it would make more sense to trade dalton and keep mccarron after the season ends. Younger and if he’s so good-it makes sense…

I hope the Vikings don’t bring this guy in. He looked like garbage last night against a mediocre defense.

    Speaking of mediocre ………………… ??????
At least you’ll get a top 10 pick next draft.

  6. For any moron who thinks the Vikings will have a top-10 pick this year, you’re DEAD WRONG!

Mike Zimmer is a great coach & MN beat the Packers for the division title last year with a QB who threw for only 14 TD passes, their leading receiver was a ROOKIE, and with teams constantly crowding the box
    With 8-9 defenders

Still went 11-5….beat the Pack IN GREEN BAY!
No way they collapse this year

  7. I just want Christian Ponder back.
Too bad we don’t have depth like the Pack

    Ted Thompson is a Wizard
    Spielman is just a turd

    Theres no one dimmer
    than Mike Zimmer

I think I’ll convert to green and gold and try winning for a change.

I don’t think so. Talent wise or $ wise. Dalton is the better QB and they have him signed to a reasonable long term deal. Wouldn’t be surprised to see McCarron sign a more lucrative deal with his new team once he’s traded.

  9. yea not sure what all the hype is about this guy? it seems some media personnel have a couple of players that they feature and the rest just run with it. Not sure he’s any better than the rest in the scrub pile.

Your offense couldn’t score more than 13 points against that defense in both games last year…

  11. Before he tore his knee, he was supposed to be a 1st-2nd round talent.

It’s amazing how College “Stars” get flushed out of the league so remorselessly. You just wonder what it is that makes high-round picks stumble, yet propels undrafted guys to starting spots, and why it’s so hard to identify whatever “it” is.

But that’s not at all impressive cause all we keep hearing about is how “pathetic” and “mediocre” the Packers are…

So bragging about beating them doesn’t warrant any respect…. (add to that, the Packers were wiped out with injuries last year).

  13. I opened up this link thinking I would find all those Viking fans from just 2 days ago clamoring for a trade to capture Murray. Now that he had a sub par game last night, all of a sudden the bloom is off the rose.

That just demonstrates the fickleness of the Viking fan. Here is my prediction 24 hours in advance of the NFL final cut deadline; Spielman will pick up a Qb and immediately the Viking fans will nominate him as a future hall of famer and the most brilliant signing in the history of the NFL. 8 weeks later, kids will be treat or treating and the Vikings fans will be saying, “Wait till next year!”

  14. Hey Florio, you love to tell us how amazing Tony Dungy is every second you get and call out other people when they make mistakes. So wouldn’t it be fair to bring up how Dungy said before teh 2013 draft that he would take Murray 1st overall if he declared? Dungy is a great guy but I guess evaluating talent isn’t his expertise. Dungy was completely blowing it out of his, you know what, because his kid played with Murray in high school.

  15. Packers fans chirping about the Vikings on an article about an ex-Chiefs player. Packers fans criticizing Spielman for not addressing QB. Packers fans bemoaning their 2015 injuries. Yawn.

The Vikings are going to be average without Bridgewater, but does anyone believe that without Rodgers the Packers are the better team in the North? Nobody. Green and Gold purple drank swillers still know MN is better across the board. Losing Jordy Nelson in the preseason was not more impactful in 2015 than losing two startin o-linemen in the preseason.

Back to your chirping, and hope Rodgers stays healthy.

  16. Don’t lose sight of the fact that Norv turns mediocre qbs into stars. Look at the years he was in Cleveland….Hill just needs to hold it together until Taylor is healed. Let the kid gun slinger work with the ones….
