Justin Forsett released in Baltimore

In their most surprising move on the way to 53 players, the Ravens have parted ways with running back Justin Forsett.

Forsett spent the last two seasons with the Ravens, running for 1,266 yards in 2014 and had 641 yards in 10 games last season before winding up on injured reserve with a broken arm. The Ravens didn’t give him much work in the preseason -- seven carries -- which seemed to be designed to keep him fresh, but they obviously liked what others brought to the table more.

Terrance West, Buck Allen and fourth-round pick Kenneth Dixon remain on the roster at running back, although Dixon is currently sidelined with a knee injury.

In addition to the previously reported cuts of wide receivers Jeremy Butler and sixth-round pick Keenan Reynolds, the Ravens placed wideouts Michael Campanaro and Chris Matthews on injured reserve. That leaves five receivers on their initial 53-man roster. Tackle De’Ondre Wesley was also placed on injured reserve while cornerback Carrington Byndom was waived/injured.

Guard Vladimir Ducasse and quarterback Josh Johnson were released. Linebacker Arthur Brown, a 2013 second-round pick, and safety Terrence Brooks, a 2014 third-round pick, were waived along with linebacker Brennen Beyer, tight end Daniel Brown, tackle Blaine Clausell, defensive tackle Kapron Lewis-Moore, running back Stephen Houston, linebacker Victor Ochi, linebacker Patrick Onwausor, center Matt Skura and defensive back Julian Wilson.
