On Saturday, the Ravens surprisingly released receiver Jeremy Butler, the team’s leading receiver in the preseason. And in lieu of returning to Baltimore as a member of the practice squad, Butler is opting for a place where he thinks he’ll have a better chance to be promoted to the active roster.
Per multiple league sources, Butler will sign with the Buccaneers practice squad, not with Baltimore’s.
Butler is likely reading the tea leaves correctly; the Ravens have a deep and competent group of receivers. If one of them is injured, the Ravens can call Butler and offer him a roster spot. Until then, he can show another team what he can do.
