Report: Kline no longer a part of Patriots-Eagles trade

Offensive lineman Josh Kline is no longer a part of the trade in which the Patriots will acquire cornerback Eric Rowe.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday evening that Kline remains a Patriot for now and could be released.

Tuesday morning, the Eagles and Patriots had agreed to a deal that sent Rowe to the Patriots for Kline and a conditional 2018 fourth-round pick. The trade is still a go, but Kline is no longer a part of it.

Kline started 13 games at guard for the Patriots last season but was passed on the depth chart during the preseason.

  1. Well that’s strange. Did he fail a physical or something?

Curious to see what additional pick(s) or player the Pats bring back to the table to get this deal done.

  2. Interesting…. Wonder if he gets released or is practice squad elligable?
Or they move a guy from 53 to practice squad that’s elligable & keep him around… Odd in deed

  3. Used a second to draft him, got a 4th back a year later. Not a great return, but since he wasn’t going to play anyway it’s probably the best option we had

  4. Not feeling too good about the Pats’ offensive line at the moment.

Seems like there are just as many question marks as there were at the end of last season.

  5. The report out of Philly states, strangely, “The source said the trade was mainly about unloading Rower for a pick, that Kline doesn’t fit into the Eagles long term plans, and that they’re already in discussions to trade him.”

So according to this, they actually are acquiring Kline, but they’re flipping him.

  6. Not a bad player for the Pats to pick up. Rowe has a relatively small salary for the next 3 years. Good depth player, who may surprise. Had great combine numbers last year. As BB says, we’ll see how it all works out.

  7. Way to go Howie you gave away last years 2nd round draft pick for a 4th rounder next year. It is no wonder the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl.

  8. Wild guess, but Kline is signed through 2017 with something like a 4 mil cap hit. Maybe the Eagles or the 3rd team wanted no part of it and decided to see if they can grab him on waivers, where the Eagles are early in the order.

How is this even possible? The deal was done hours ago

Like Stork. He failed his physical is the only explanation.

The hilarious thing is the Eagles pretty much saying: “Eh, whatever, we’ll just take the pick, let’s do this.”

The new regime clearly wants nothing to do with Rowe.

I think he is a promising young player.

  10. The Patsies**** tryin to fleece another team by including a lemon in the deal. It just never ends with them

He didn’t make that 2nd last year tho – Chipper did.

It’s a 2 for a 4 because that’s where they were drafted, not necessarily because that’s the caliber of player they are.

I’ll bet that slimebag Belicheat tried to pull another fast one with an injured player.

I already won a bet. I had bet that the 8th posting under this article would be lame.

G Josh Kline, who didn’t practice Tuesday, has remained in New England today. Thus, his removal from trade isn’t tied to any physical in PHL

  14. Hopefully the NFL will finally show some integrity and publically release the PSI information that was collected during the 2015 season prior to the start of the 2016 season.

But that means that the trolls that already posted their assumed speculation before knowing any of the facts look silly again.

  16. Longtime Pats fan here….Grew up in Massachusetts..

You know the best thing about reading all the haters in all these posts?

That each and every year my team will be one of the last four standing…And yours won’t…

    Every…Single…..Year….

So I look forward to your remarks come next January…

    Again…..

    Go Pats!!!!

  17. Amid the rocket scientists who think that Brady somehow cheated the laws of physics to show there wasn’t any deflation when Roger Goodell says there was, is the fact that this Patriots roster is one of the deepest in years

… to the point that other teams are just waiting to grab any guys that Belichick cuts

That depth doesn’t mean much in September – and it will still take this Patriots team a month or two to get into mid season form – but come the playoffs, that depth of quality no name guys rather than the big free agency splashes some teams use to appease fans=, will really pay off

Or with your lame comment. Your jealousy is so obvious.

  19. It’s amusing how the haters think that Belichick is always trying to “fleece” the unsuspecting dupes in charge of other teams. Only the haters (you know who you are) are stupid enough to fall for that.

Meanwhile, the reality is that when trying to improve the bottom of the roster, most GM’s are more likely to try to strike a deal and move forward rather than keeping secrets.

But, hate on if you must. (And it’s rather obvious that you must.)

Tammy killed the deal. Reportedly unhappy with something.

Mr. Brady is happily married. Perhaps you should find your own person to use your affectionate names for.

  21. The way I look at it is if another team is stupid enough or incompetent in its ability to do what it feels is best for their organization then well, it’s on them… Not the Patriots….
That’s what’s so funny about the hater comments… They are too busy pointing the finger at the Patriots organization as opposed to holding their own franchise accountable for its ongoing failures…
Just a heads up haters… Look closer to home for your failures!!!!

  22. Rumor has it that the reason the Patriots gave up so much for Rowe is because Dolphins had preliminary talks with Eagles and were offering a 5th round pick. Eric Rowe is not worth it.

And your was indeed the lamest, Bean homer.

  24. Don’t blame Roseman Eric Rowe was another one of Kelly’s brutally bad draft picks who didn’t pan out. He was in Jim Schwartz’s dog house from day one for whatever reason and played poorly in the pre season. Maybe Bill will get more out of him? What Roseman has done this off season has been nothing short of remarkable after the mess Kelly left. A lot of what the Eagles future will look like falls on the shoulders of Carson Wentz and from what I have seen it looks pretty dam good.

  25. Jedi Bill at it again, “you didn’t want a player along with the pick”
Stormtrooper #245 Howie, “we only want the pick Bill”

Now if only Goodell had a brain that could be influenced it would have made all those other slight of hands more effective.

The Pats didn’t use a 2nd – he was an UDFA

  27. If as rumored the eagles only wanted the 3rd/4th round pick for their CB and were going to immediately deal kline to a 3rd party, then it could make sense for NE to cut out the middleman and deal kline directly.

  28. Checked the spreads, found it so curious that the defending champions aren’t favored @ home on opening night. That’s Never happened to the Patriots, just like Tom has never been embarrassed in a super bowl like Denver was in Super bowl 48.

  30. Man the Pats should have stepped up and paid Revis a couple years ago, that secondary has not been the same since he left. This smells of desperation trading for Rowe, he is garbage.

  31. People say what a slime ball Belichick is; but Roseman looks like a creep that Chris Hansen would be interviewing on “To Catch a Predator”.

  32. you fans who think you have something to do with your team’s success are the funniest. and the long-time new england fan above, i guess you were along for the ride for all those teams prior to the belichick era; when the patriots were a joke.

but you, sir or madam, are the same working slob you were back then. your gloating over something you had nothing to do with is telling. not sure who is worse, the cowboy fans who remember only the 60’s-90’s, or the pats fans who only remember after that.
