49ers say they knew what was coming from Rams’ offense

AP

How were the 49ers able to shut out the Rams on Monday night? It was in part because the 49ers knew what was coming.

Steve Wyche reported on NFL Network that a 49ers player told him they could tell exactly what the Rams were doing in advance, solely by the Rams’ alignment and backfield motion.

That doesn’t speak well for Rams offensive coordinator Rob Boras and the rest of the Los Angeles offense, especially that it’s already that predictable in the first week of the season when it hadn’t even put anything on film yet.

Obviously, something needs to change on the Rams’ offense. Coach Jeff Fisher says that change will not come from changing quarterbacks, and Case Keenum is not in danger of being benched for first overall pick Jared Goff. But a good place to start the change would be an offense that doesn’t tell the defense what’s coming.

  1. If you just look at this resume (record and what he’s done with draft picks) it’s more than clear that he’s just not a good coach. As a Niner fan, I hope he gets an extension.

  2. I’m still convinced Kroenke kept Jeff Fisher in the coaches seat, knowing how awful he is, just so he could disenfranchise the team with the fans in St. Louis. Watch him be the first coach to get canned, then let the promises of tomorrow begin with a fresh, new, excited fan bas in L.A.

  3. Jeff Fisher promoted Rob Boras, who had never called plays in his life to be his OC in their first year in LA and a pivotal year for Fisher. Rob Boras is a yeller and screamer but not a schemer. Never mind you Chris Weinke, who is a decent QB coach but he too has never called plays in his life. Really poorly managed franchise from a true “football IQ and “real” coaching standpoint

  4. .
Where are all the geniuses who spent the offseason cracking wise about Jeff Fisher and his perennial 8-8 record? I’ll bet you clowns are feeling pretty stupid right about now. 8 wins…. ROTFLMAO

Maybe you want to hazzard a guess on when Fisher will win his first playoff game since pre cell phone 2003?
    .

  5. Jeff Fisher knows nothing about offense, why would he hire an inexperienced OC who has been a TE coach for a decade with no play calling experience aside from 2 years at UNLV?

  6. Dunno if anyone here has played the game QB1 at a bar… I’d LOVE to have that kind of information playing this game.

    🙂

I’m still pondering that tavon auston extension/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

You didn’t like the contract that the West Coast Ted GInn got?

  8. As a Dolphin fan I’d like to thank Coach Fisher for choosing St Louis over Miami and sticking us with Joe Philbin.

  9. How did they know?

    Bugged locker room?
    Stolen playbook?
    Taped walk-through?
    All of the above?

Oh wait. Do you mean it is possible to know what an opponent is going to do just by studying their tendencies?

The best receiver in the league right now is short.

    ————-

    Julio Jones is 6’3″…..

Joking but Brown is the exception not the norm the way the league is going.

Drafting those little short WRs.. lmao

Uhh, NE won a SB in 2015 with 2 short WRs while youse guys was home watchin’. In fact #11 put big bad Kam in his place. Remember that early pass where big bad Sherman totally wiffed on a tackle and NE got a critical 1st down.
Are those the type of short guys you mean?

Oh, and let’s not forget Edelman ending Lane’s game early on after his Brady pick.

Yeah, those little guys sure can’t handle the Big Bad NFL.

  14. Jeff Fisher is bad, we know that. The big question is how many people in NFL offices behind the scenes are freaking out right now? Because a bad team in LA will cost the whole league many millions. Might make the Raiders more likely to go there because new Rams fans will be eager to jump ship.

  15. Fisher will be there until the transition is done and they move into their new stadium (~3 more years). After that, he can be fired so that whoever comes in after him will boost sales on the “new hope” theory.

The Raiders are going to Vegas, which will be the new flagship destination, and will make LA look like the Oakland Coliseum.

  17. Wondering why the Rams aren’t crying that the 49ers had taped the pre-game walkthrough….they have a history of doing that when their offense gets shut down.

  18. One really flat performance does not equate to the end of the world for this team. Time will tell how good or bad this team will be. I think this team will still be very competitive this week and for the rest of the year. As usual, there’s plenty of overreacting taking place after week 1.

  19. Even including Gurley and a few headliners on defense the Rams are as talent bare as any organization in football. Bad offensive line, bad wide outs, bad secondary … they are a bad football team. Titans are getting a high draft pick next April (maybe even #1 overall).

(And how are they going to build an offensive line with all their draft picks going to the Titans?)

  20. Rams beat themselves. We have more than a few oportunites to win this game and every single time make a mistake.

Sure that can be blamed on bad coaching, but if we get that fixed, we will win a lot more games.

LA Rams will beat Seattle at home, you heard it hear first!

  21. It’s the exact same offense from 2015, minus Jared Cook and Foles. You know, the league’s worst offense last year. It should have been pretty easy to study film on that.

  22. Not every article on PFT requires Pats fans telling the world how great their team and coach are…
We got it, NE is a step above everyone and multiple flights higher than a Jeff Fisher-coached team whose idea of a passing tree is running outs three yards behind the line of scrimmage.

  23. Besides his failures as HC Jeff Fisher is also an arrogant prick. Listen to most of his interviews as he treats questions as the dumbest thing in the world ever asked. He is a condescending failure.

  24. Fisher seems like a nice enough guy, but that team needs a new coaching staff. Too much talent that they’re embarrassed the first week by the 49ers.

Just like Los Angeles, boring, over-hyped & superficial.
    ============================================

Come on, LA is anything but boring. You confuse Hollywood with Los Angeles, which is rather large and one of the most diverse cities in the country.

  26. They MUST have cheated! I saw it on the internets and I believe Rogie Goodell!

Oh wait, this isn’t about the Pats.

Good thing the Rams tough guy defensive coaches are oh so tough on Hard Knocks! Goody gumdrops! Their tough guy antics in front of the camera, really paid off for the Rams.

    bawahaha

Takes a lot more than being in love with yourself to succeed in the NFL.

  27. Run the ball on first down. Run on second down or throw pass to the flat. Pass on third down . Never convert. Punt. They have no downfield receiver . They use Austin as a running back. They cant run block. That’s just the offense. No pass rush. Secondary is weaker than last year. Cant stop the run. This team is worse than last year. They will have a hard time winning 4 games. Probably the worst game they have played in two years. I think the organization has gotten caught up in the hype of being in LA and forgot they actually have to play in the games. Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald will waste away on that team. Waste their careers with QB after QB and probably coach after coach.

  28. Wondering why the Rams aren’t crying that the 49ers had taped the pre-game walkthrough….they have a history of doing that when their offense gets shut down.

There is a vocal group of people, not just fans but veteran NFL players, who not only believe that story is true, but also believe that’s the only way one team can anticipate what an opposing team might do.

Yeah. Patriots haters and former Rams players, and have been proven to be profoundly delusional.

All anyone has to do is look at the scoring summary for that Super Bowl to know that the Patriots didn’t know what the Rams were going to do.

Ted Ginn can get open downfield… he drops a lot of passes, but at least he doesn’t need a billion dinky screens to catch passes.

Tavon can’t get open at all.

Could you please shut your pie hole until after the Hawks game?

In all seriousness, if a team has a ‘tell’ and you have to play them again, it takes a really stupid team to tell them such.
    ————————–

    News flash:

The Patriots, by way of Goodell, let everyone in on that little “secret” about 9 years ago.

You people act like studying game film is witchcraft or something.

  32. Jeff Fisher will ruin Todd Gurley ….ala Steven Jackson. Ride him right into the ground against 8-9 man fronts.

Goff, Donald….all of them will be mangled by this coaching staff….if I were them, I’d be looking to get out fast.

Not so stupid if that information helps a team you already beat take down a greater threat. They may have one more game against the Rams, but they have two more against the much stronger Seahawks team. I would be giving the Rams tips too.

The only team that knows what’s coming are the patriots.

And the 49ers. Did you not read the headline of the article?

  35. As a Niners fan I enjoyed watching us destroy them. Their team and especially Jeff Fisher is so overrated it’s ridiculous! I love that Kroenke is talking about signing him to an extension too! LMAO!!! They’ll be lucky to be 7-9 this year! Rams and Browns will be battling for the #1 pick next year and the Titans have to be thrilled since the Rams don’t own that pick anymore! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!
