On Thursday night, a facemask tackle of Jets receiver Brandon Marshall caused his knee to twist in a way that the human knee typically doesn’t. He feared the worst possible outcome; he ended up with the best.

“Brandon is fine,” Jets coach Todd Bowles told reporters on Friday. “He has a sore knee. He got some treatment, but he’s walking around pretty good.”

It initially appeared he wouldn’t be walking around at all. And that he would be having surgery followed by a grueling rehab process that may or may not have allowed him to become the guy he used to be.

When watching bodies collide and tangle and collapse at every level of football, it’s amazing that serious leg injuries don’t happen more often. It seemed certain that it had happened to Marshall on Thursday. Instead, he returned after a brief absence, played well, and by all appearances won’t miss a beat.
