Lions put Ameer Abdullah on injured reserve

The Lions have lost their top running back.

Ameer Abdullah has been placed on injured reserve with a foot injury suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Titans.

The IR designation means Abdullah will miss at least half the season. The league now allows teams to take one player off injured reserve and back on the 53-man roster eight weeks after he’s placed on injured reserve. It’s unknown yet whether the Lions plan to do that with Abdullah, or whether he’s done for the entire season.

Abdullah’s injury came at the end of a zigzagging run that showed off exactly what the Lions like about Abdullah, who has the shiftiness to make people miss in the open field.

With Abdullah out, the Lions will turn more to Theo Riddick, as well as rookie Dwayne Washington and second-year player Zach Zenner, who hasn’t played at all this season. The Lions may also bring back Joique Bell, who worked out in Detroit yesterday.

  1. The Lions have no had any luck with RBS the last several years, whether it was Kevin Jones, Kevin James I beleive (kid from UCF or Sotuhh Fl) Jahvid Best. There RBS seem to get hurt a TON makes a guy wonder if there is a Barry Sanders curse on the team.

  2. Can Green Bay catch any more breaks?

Week 1 – the league admits to 16 blown calls that favored the Packers in a game that went to the wire. Week 2 – the Vikings are without Bridgewater, their best corner, an offensive line, etc. And now, week 3, they face the Lions who will be missing Abdullah and Ziggy Ansah.

  3. It’s bad enough that the Lions have to overcome their own ineptitude but injuries like this sure make it harder.

That being said we’ll see what Zenner can do and I wouldn’t be totally opposed to bringing Bell back too.

Smoked his was out… – Mikel Leshoure

He was arrested twice with weed. Feb 18th and March 12th 2012.

Judge Shelton Schrock agreed that the NFL’s testing program was more stringent than would what be ordered by the court. Lavigne said that Leshoure is in a 24-month program that initially requires him to be test two or three times a week for drug use.

Yet he was arrested for possession twice with three weeks.

In addition to Ansah, they lost two starting LBs and a backup LB last week (Levy is one of the best in the NFL when healthy). So I have a feeling Aaron Rodgers is gonna be throwing without much pressure, picking apart the middle of defense with a lot of balls going to RBs and TEs. Not looking forward to it.

  6. The Lions, Bears and Vikings are all getting creamed by injuries this year. I’m so glad I picked AP and Abdullah as my FF RBs this year.

I must’ve missed all those blown calls, and didn’t see a story about it either.
I agree that GB is catching a lot of breaks with the injuries, but Bradford is better than Bridgewater. Green Bay has lost Sam Shields – their best DB – but still are in much better shape injury-wise than the rest of the division. Still, we are stuck with McCarthy. It should be an interesting season to see who wins this division, somebody has to.

  8. djvh2 – Do a quick Google search of “Packers Jaguars nfl admits” and you’ll see that tons of media outlets have covered the 16 blown calls in week 1 that favored the Packers.

It’s just the norm for Green Bay.
