Norman on covering Beckham all game: I didn’t get the memo

A report on Wednesday from Britt McHenry of ESPN said that the Redskins plan to change up the way they use cornerback Josh Norman against the Giants this weekend.

The plan, per the report, is for Norman to follow Odell Beckham around the field unless Beckham is lined up in the slot. That’s something Norman would like -- “Heck yeah” was his response to a question about it -- but the cornerback said that a plan calling for him to do that is news to him.

“I didn’t get the memo,” Norman said, via CSNMidAtlantic.com.

Coach Jay Gruden also denied that there’s a plan in place that calls for Norman to guard Beckham exclusively. If that is the way things play out, plenty of people will be watching to see if there’s a resumption of the hostilities between the players from last season.

Norman and Beckham have provided reason to believe they will flare up with their words over the offseason, although Norman played a different tune on Wednesday. He said there’s “no hate whatsoever” for Beckham and that he’s turned the page on last year’s activities.

“God tells us to forgive all,” Norman said. “So I’m working on that, but I have moved past it. That was last year. There are things that happened in the past that stay in the past whether they’re here or not. I’m sure he didn’t want it to happen, just like everybody else didn’t. But it did. My feelings about it, really doesn’t matter to be honest with you.”

Should the Redskins lose on Sunday, they’ll be 0-3 and the Giants will be 3-0 so there’s plenty of motivation to come out with a strong performance beyond winning any individual battles with Beckham. Winning it would certainly help the team’s chances of winning the game, so Norman can probably go ahead and try to do both.
