The big news of the day for the Vikings is about the players who won’t be on the field for most or all of the rest of the season, but there’s also an addition to the roster to report.
The team announced on Wednesday that they have signed former Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman. Hillman’s arrival comes on the same day that they announced that Adrian Peterson will be having surgery on his torn meniscus and that there’s no timetable for a return to the lineup.
On top of that, the Vikings also placed left tackle Matt Kalil on injured reserve with a hip injury. He’s expected to miss the season and, of course, they know that quarterback Teddy Bridgewater won’t play again in 2016.
Hillman led the Broncos with 863 rushing yards in the regular season last year, but C.J. Anderson returned to the lead back role as the year wound down and Denver added Devontae Booker in the fourth round of the draft. Hillman will join Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata as options in the backfield with Peterson out of the lineup.
