Rams outlast Bucs after an long lightning delay

AP

Sometimes when you move, those boxes in the garage stay packed.

Well, Rams coach Jeff Fisher dug past the 8-tracks and the old dishes, and found all the touchdowns.

After scoring nine points (9!?!) in their first two games, the Rams exploded in a 37-32 win over the Buccaneers, to move to 2-1.

The Rams didn’t do it all with their explosive offense, with defensive tackle Ethan Westbrook scooping a sack-strip fumble and taking it 77 yards for a touchdown.

But with Todd Gurley running for two touchdowns and quarterback Case Keenum actually doing something, it was enough to withstand an hour-plus lightning delay and a late charge by Tampa, with Robert Quinn taking down quarterback Jameis Winston to end it.

The Bucs (1-2) have a number of concerns, including the fact they left four points on the board with a missed field goal and a missed extra point by rookie kicker Roberto Aguayo. That left them chasing two-point conversions late in the game, both of which failed.

Winston had a solid day, with 405 yards and three touchdowns, but the reality wasn’t as good as the fantasy stats.

  1. Tampa really needs to get their defense together. Giving up 37 points to a team that had only scored 9 points in 2 games. This team had an opportunity to lead the division at 2-1 and take some momentum next week while playing the sb champs in Tampa. If we got pounded by az a week ago, just wait until we play Denver. Another rough year for us buccaneer fans

  2. It’s only week 3, but the Rams being in first place in the NFC West at any point in the season seems pretty remarkable.

  3. Haha

Monday nights game will now be for First Place in the NFC South.

If Saints win, they are tied for the Division lead with Tampa Bay as a result of a Division win each, but Saints would only have one NFC loss, so they would technically be in First Place. If the Dirty Birds win, they are in First Place.

By the way, Sean Payton is 15-4 career wins coaching vs Atlanta.

Jameis Winston is NOT Cam Newton & wasting a 1st Rd pick on a kicker was PRICELESS !!

Umm… actually the kicker was a 2nd round pick, the Bucs’ third pick of the draft (they traded up for a second 2nd round pick.)

  5. Cant wait for all of the LA haters to come up with ridiculous tweets this week. No Tds in first two games? No problem. The team that laid an egg week 1 is now 2-1. Defense stepped up, offense showed up, and now tied for first…

  6. Great job by the Rams!! I do not like the “STL version” of the uniforms. Can’t wait until they go back to the classic blue and yellow w/ the yellow horns. 2-1 and in 1st place in the NFC West!!!

He was a 2nd round pick and shouldn’t you be worried about the equally terrible Dolphins who could barely beat a Cody Kessler led Browns team

  8. Koetter not HC material. Same clulessness that he showed when at ASU. Why are you carrying those timeouts home with you after Sims caught that last pass? At the very least, you might have wanted to go over what you’re going to do for the last few shots into the end zone with your young QB, not to mention saving valuable time. Not to mention that the premature chasing of 2 pointers was a bad decision too, even though it ended up being a moot point because the defense is so awful and immediately gave up another TD after the offense got within 5 the first time. If you kick it there and they get held to a field goal, you’re only looking for a TD and extra point to tie instead of a TD and 2 point conversion if you miss the 2 pointer. Those kinds of calculations are too hard for Koetter to see though.

  9. I wonder how long until someone in LA gets fired for thinking it was a good idea to draft Goff over Wentz.

Yeah Thanks for clubbing me on the head like a baby seal & correcting me on Aguayo, as far as Miami
getting that gift today – I’ve got NO doubts how bad they really are & how lucky if they finish 7-9 again,…………
I was Lovie Smith fan and thought he got a raw deal & if Winston is going to excel he needs a mentor…and Koetter definitely is not one!

  11. Jameis needs to improve his accuracy. He overthrows a lot of balls, especially the critical one to a wide open receiver at the 10 yard line on the last series. Sims, I think. He almost certainly would have scored, no one near him. We don’t look like a winning team at this point.

  12. Meet the new Bucs…. Same as the old Bucs. They can always find a way to lose. This is the curse of firing super bowel winning head coach Jon Gruden when all they needed to do was boot their GM, Bruce Allen. They have been chasing head coaches ever since…. the same way they were chasing points yesterday when their inappropriately-drafted kicker threw away 4 gimme points.
