Colin Kaepernick calls debate “embarrassing to watch”

AP

In the week of the first presidential debate, neither Donald Trump nor Hillary Clinton but Colin Kaepernick occupied the cover of Time. On Tuesday, Kaepernick was asked if he saw the 98-minute back-and-forth.

I watched a little bit of it,” Kaepernick told reporters, via Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. “To me it was embarrassing to watch that these are our two candidates. Both are proven liars and it almost seems they’re trying to debate who’s less racist. At this point . . . you have to pick the lesser of two evils but in the end it’s still evil.”

Plenty of people feel the same way as Kaepernick. Regardless, in a nation of 319 million people, these are our two primary options.

At a time when the country seems to be more divided than ever, we seem to be destined to become even more divided, regardless of the outcome of the election.

  1. Would be interesting to see the 49ers go 1-5 and still sit him for political reasons, when theres 10 more shootings against innocent people black or not.
Good for him for standing up. Or kneeling down.

  2. No Krap you are the embarrassing one! You are an embarrassment to the whole country!! We don’t care about your opinion, because it means nothing!

  3. As the NFL’s biggest embarrassment to watch, Kaepernick offered unique insight on the debate.

  4. Kap will start this week and next year after a great draft with a new GM he will lead us to six. #GoNiners #NobodyhasitbetterthanUS

He isn’t 2nd string because he’s black. It’s because he’s a terrible player. Stop with the nonsense…. people like you only widen the racial divide. Which btw isn’t nearly as wide as one might think.

  6. I think Colin does his country and his race a dis-service by putting Hillary in the same category with Trump. Obviously Hillary can be criticized, but to imply they’re the same is crazy.

  7. She wore a wire. She had only 2 questions directed only at her. She had those questions ahead of time. She tried to fact check and lied so many times against her own statements.

If the African American and Hispanic Americans don’t vote, she loses. So ask yourself – why does she say what they want to hear? Why hasn’t she done anything for these communities prior to her presidential campaign? Because she’s a fraud.

  8. He’s only right about the “embarrassing” part especially when it comes from Trump.

But, this little Millennial, selfish and entitled LOSER of a human who is now riding the bench and looking for attention, is obsessed with playing this race card.

Yeah, Hillary Clinton is really a racist.

What a loser this guy is.

  9. who cares what this jackass thinks? i mean he plays football- or he’s hoping to actually play again someday. who cares what this would-be football player thinks about politics… or art, science, music, movies, etc, etc. he’s a football player.

give him a ball, take away the mic.

  10. .
Big difference between a dude that 80%+ of what he says is a lie and the others 30%
same difference a dude with a record of racism and the other a record of helping…

Either way it is amazing how Idiocracy got history right trump is an exact replica of President Comacho the WWF Champ.
top reality star who just spews things for effect regardless of who or whom it effects as long as it benefits himself.

  11. Entire process is summarily hijacked by the MNC’s. The votes for the independent candidates are going to have to start be cast if that’s ever to change -even if they don’t yet stand a chance.

  12. Go to a country where there is no racist people good luck finding one. Where were you three years ago when you were starting now that your a bench player now it’s different. you phony, you know you won’t get cut that’s why your keeping this scam up.

  13. Since NFL players are now obsessed with taking political stands…

Why not write in Tony Romo and continue this NFL/Politics integration theme? From leading America’s team to leading America. What else is he going to do now that Dak has Brady’d him? At least we know his medical history and isn’t likely to die in office, just hurt his back from sitting in the chair inside the Oval Office. The guy is truly likable. Did you see him in the DirecTV commercial? Paper mache, people. Crownies for everyone!

Arian Foster can be his RUNNING mate. Pair a former Texan with Tony who is perpetually injured like he is.

  14. It was embarrasing. This whole charade of a campaign by the man who looks like a melting pig carcass has been a national embarrassment that will stain us for a long time.

  15. Really ten more innocent black people killed you say. Ummm what about the thousands of black people killed by you guessed it black people. How come there are no protests or tak8ng a stand for that? Could it be because there is no media or money in it for them unless they call racist

  16. What Kaepernick has been doing lately is disgraceful to watch. Stop trying to be the leader of the people that want to keep playing the victim.

It would at least be nice to let the 319 million people hear a third voice.

    #LetGaryDebate

You don’t have to agree with the Libertarians but let’s at least show America there is a different perspective/choice/set of *principles.

  18. Why does anyone care what this washed up QB has to say about any subject especially POLITICS….can we please get back to stories that relate to the game of football?? 😃💥🔫

  19. Gary Johnson is well qualified and actually carries himself like an adult. But yeah, vote for the bad candidates and complain about it.

  20. I’m embarrassed as well that these are our only real choices for president. It’s even more embarrassing that Colin Kaperchoke gets this much press for what he thinks. To those who haven’t followed his career and interviews they might think he’s thoughtful or righteous. Trust me he’s not. He’s annoying and abrasive. It’s not just Seahawks fans that feel that way. Most in the Niners organization feel the same way. It’s well documented. Bad player, self important and that observation has nothing to do with race. It’s what I’ve seen and heard from those who are connected to that terrible organization.

  21. No Colin..you and your generation of entitled cry babies the left have created are embarrassing. ..and so is your play on the field and your awkward afro ..if you’re gonna fight for a cause you should be informed about it and intelligent. .Kap is neither..a perfect spokesman for black lives matter movement..

  22. Wait … I care what some football player says about our National Election Process. Could care less about him.

  23. If police are murdering people just because their not white where are all the Asian Latin and Arab protesters?Could it be that blacks are targeted not because of the color of their skin but because of the violence that’s committed every day in their own communities against each other?Oh but that’s to p.c. to say and doesn’t fit blm or Kaps agenda…you can never solve a problem being p.c. and ignoring the real problem..

  24. Colin Kaepernick… there are more than just 2 choices. The Republicans and Democrats don’t want you know that… so just keep kneeling down and ignore the facts.

  25. “Plenty of people feel the same way as Kaepernick.”

Funny that I first read that as “Plenty of people feel the same way ABOUT Kaepernick”, which is probably more accurate.

  26. Why are we reading anything regarding the backup qb for the 49ers, especially his OPINION on the presidential election? His 15 minutes are way past…..please, no more about this clown.

  27. False Equivalence, Mr. Kapernick. One has been actually proven NOT to be nearly as dishonest as her reputation (as per Politifact) and one is the worst, most dishonest. least prepared candidate in history. It’s not the lesser of 2 evils, it’s one flawed candidate and one purely evil one.

  28. If you want to see something embarrassing watch a 49ers game or watch Kap play. Oh that’s right he doesn’t play anymore. He’s too busy giving social commentary.

  29. The democrats made it a bad thing to be a successful businessman in 2012 election with Mitt Romney.

The republicans are making it a bad thing to be a polished veteran politician in 2016.

Hilary was more “polished and refined” from a political standpoint, but not sure that’s what the majority of the country cares about right now.

They are both disasters, it’s more or less pick your poison at this point.

  30. Thank you for your insight Mr. Wizard. Will they be following up this story with the view of the debates from other second string QB’s? Can’t wait to hear Chase Daniel, Mark Sanchez and Jimmy G’s opinion. While were at it, throw in Michael Sam and Johnny Football’s insights. Pure wisdom.

  31. Well at least we agree on something kap. I too was embarrassed just watching the debate. How the hell did we get a choice between these two idiots. They wouldn’t even make my list of top 100 presidential canidates. Sad

  32. “it almost seems they’re trying to debate who’s less racist”

When you make everything about race, you’re a racist.

  33. For the first and probably only time I agree with Kaepernick. It was like watching 2 elementary school kids. I changed it after about 20 min.

  34. Well then Colin it looks like you have something in common with them then because your pretty embarrassing to watch. If you don’t like this country leave!!!!

  35. “they are both liars”

C’mon Kaepernick, is this your first election? I know you’re naive and all, but ALL politicians are liars. This is nothing new.

  36. Florio, maybe you can ask Colin when he plans to do some public service instead of criticizing the people who are; even those he might disagree with.

I don’t like it but I respect his right to kneel during the National Athem and I admit to those who follow me that I was conflicted on this topic. Nevertheless in the scheme of things all the demonstrations and sound bites are very safe plays. If he really wants to see change he’ll step up on his time, not the NFLs.

  37. Not from the US, but regardless of who gets in
    a) Obama has proved that the actual business of government that happens behind the scenes by unelected people can slow everything to a halt. Rememeber all the “Hope” meme and pictures? Truth is he can’t do anything because of all the red tape and grinding of civil servants presevering their own jobs. So, same goes for either of these two. Clinton will do what she’s done and has observed in government ever since she married Bill. That is, letting those behind the scenes do what they do.

Trump will be relying on those behind the scenes.

b)Socialogists, civics experts, and all sorts of other, will be talking about this election for a long time. I don’t have the need to go to any partisan websites but its clear that the mainstream media likes to jump all over Trump at any turn, if not jump, at least point out what he’s doing as some sort of disappoval.

You’d think he’s got 5% of the popular vote if that’s what you base things off of, truth is, he’s got 10’s of millions people that are going to vote for him and his “at least I’m not lying behind your back as a non-politician” platform.

  38. How far down the rabbit hole do we have to go? I could care less what Colin Kaepernick thinks of any of the 4 Presidential candidates, I don’t why anybody else would either.

Is it like this 3rd string QB who is a shell of his former self all of a sudden a political thought leader? But I blame the press for making this a story when it should be rightfully ignored.

  39. Both parties are utterly and totally corrupt

Neither has the best interest of the country as their goal, only stealing as much public money as possible for their corporate owners who will the fund the political gravy train with bribes

  40. I think most people would agree with Kap on this one.

That does not necessarily mean that I want to hear a lot more from Kap.

  41. False, there are not only two candidates. Voting for the lesser of evils, is still evil. Break up the dem-repub control over the debate commission.

  42. Be that as it may, one of those two standing up there is not a racist. Thought he might care about that little factoid……

  43. You know what’s coming next.
“If you don’t want to watch the presidential debates, then leave the country!”

  44. With a little perspective on history, people would realize that these 2 candidates AREN’T necessarily the worst ever. Its like the 20 years olds who proclaim a film from 3 years ago is the best film EVER, because they have no clue as to movies from years before. In the history of party politics, there have been MANY dreadful candidates, campaigns and presidents. We take for granted that they were better than what we have today simply because…it was back then. Everything was better then, right? Not the case at all. Read a little history of presidential candidates and presidents, and you might be surprised just how many awful ones we have had. Its just that (anti)social media and the Internet allows people to vent in ways that were not possible before, so we get the idea that partisanship is worse and more widespread. Its not.

  45. Hillary definitely buried Trump.
But it doesn’t matter. Trump is obviously out of his mind. This doesn’t change the fact that Hillary is sketchy af.

Because of what he’s done, nothing Kaepernick says will land on the ears of people who venemously hate Jerry Jones only to side with him after his comments regarding the kneeling during the anthem.

In spite of all of that, what Kaepernick says is true.

  46. We know Clinton is a proven liar. Where exactly has Trump been proven to lie? He hasnt even been in government

    Crickets…..

  47. the country is more divided than ever? I guess you live a pretty sheltered life and so that assessment is based on what you see on sensationalist TV and social media. People are getting along much better than they ever have.

  48. Both are incapable of running this country. People who hated Obama will soon realized he did a awfully good job of bringing this country back when we were going through depression. Neither of these two will do as a good job as Obama.

  49. Both are incapable of running this country. People who hated Obama will soon realized he did a awfully good job of bringing this country back when we were going through depression. Neither of these two will do as a good job as Obama. Kaep is right.

  50. “To me it was embarrassing to watch that these are our two candidates. Both are proven liars and it almost seems they’re trying to debate who’s less racist. At this point . . . you have to pick the lesser of two evils but in the end it’s still evil.”
    ——————————————————————

I dislike Kaep but this is the most intelligent thing I have seen come from him.

  51. Look at Kaepernick expanding his repertoire! Next week he’ll be analyzing global trade agreements. From the bench.

  52. “Embarrassing to Watch?”
Kind of like you trying to play professional football the last couple of years. Time to move back to Turlock and volunteer at the Boys/Girls Club for a while, then…..you might be relevant…

  53. Football, Baseball, Basketball Players, Actors, Sports Writers, etc:

WE DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU THINK…STICK TO YOUR TRADE AND PLEASE SHUTUP…

We watch sports, movies for our entertainment and some for a vicarious relief from the exigencies and vicissitudes of life.

You’re “Opinions” mean ZERO TO THE MAJORITY OF US.

IT IS NOT WHAT YOU SAY, IT IS WHAT YOU DO.

If you want us to boycott the NFL, (47 % in the most recent poll said they would) keep it up.

ASK the NFL if they are not concerned about the current sliding viewership?

Sports Writers, please inform us about the team, the game, not your opinion on social issues, with KAP’s every incoherent meme, it is not wanted…

One more article like this, and I for one, will not be reading these posts anymore…

  54. 300+ million people in the country and these are the two best and brightest!? Keep waiting for Ashton Kutcher to pop out on my TV and say”Hey America YOU’VE BEEN PUNKED!!! Now, here are the real candidates.”

Last one in the bowl, please flush

  55. Why, why, why don’t people take this unique opportunity, a year in which we have two extremely unpopular candidates to choose from (how the hell did they get nominated?) to break the two party system that trowels out this garbage and VOTE THIRD PARTY?!?! Gary Johnson may not be perfect, but damn, people, let’s break the stranglehold of the two major parties and give the Libertarians a try! Can they really do any worse than what we’ve experienced? Everyone says, “Well, if I vote third party, the one I dislike the most might win” or “That’s wasting my vote.” Baloney. The only wasted vote is for someone you don’t really believe in, just because it’s “your party”.

  56. This mornings’ bowel movement was more important than Kapernicks’ opinion. He really should be spending his time trying to improve his craft. Who knows, he might just be aware that barring a starters injury, he will never be “the man” again.

  57. Still think Kaep’s manner of protest is divisive, arrogant and misguided, but I can definitely agree with him here. I also agree with Florio for once. The country is already divided and it seems it will only get worse no matter who wins. It feels like these candidates were forced on us.

  58. So what does he think about our present Liar-In-Chief? You know… The Who promised “If you like your Health Plan, you can keep it, period”. Or, “not a smidgen of corruption within the IRS”. Or, “I didn’t draw a red line”. Or, Benghazi was the result of an internet video”. Or, many, many more… too many to list her.

  59. hes not wrong.. about those fools that is. but hes embarassing too.. if he was actually trying to do something about “his fight” maybe some would listen more. kneeling is proving nothing. put those millions u are getting paid to sit on the bench towards something good homie

  60. I really care about what Colon Kraperneck the most non black African American in the history of football has to say regarding racism and the racial divide in America and politics because I’m sure he is so well versed on such s topic…

    Said no true American ever

  61. You know you are in trouble when a football player is viewed by the media (i.e. PFT) as a spokesmen of the country’s future.

  62. Only if you were voting for Trump. When a person agrees with the other during a debate, like Trump did. That means you have nothing to say.

  63. I never thought K was a brainiac, but dude,
if they seem similarly racist to you…geez.

Here’s a tip: When people have to say,
    10 times per week:
“Hey, what I said earlier merely SEEMED racist…
I didn’t really mean it that way”

    and David Duke can’t stop high-fiving them…
    put 2 & 2 together simple Colin…

  64. Why is this guy still on the team? With all this political crap he must be a huge distraction. If and when he is released what team would subject themselves to this.

  65. Nobody cares what we say,but a lot of people sure to heck care what he says. He’s relevant to everyone who has a positive or negative remark about him because he’s in your head.

  66. I don’t think Kaep is a great QB, but it would be hilarious to see him start and do well, just to hear the reactions of all the haters

  67. Colin Kaepernick you are the the bigot.

You disrespect the veterans that gave their lives to end slavery.
You look at two white candidates and call them liars. You said that you only watched for a few minutes. You can’t bother to listen for 90 minutes. If you had listened to President Obama’s speech to the Black Congressional Congress then you would have heard him say that ” I will consider it a personal insult, an insult to my legacy, if this community lets down its guard and fails to activate itself in this election”

If you want to make a political statement then educate yourself. This election matters to black and white Americans.

  68. What I find both funny and sad is that kids emulate this clown by doing the same dumb kneel down. His “protest” is selfish. He’s at work and boycotts the national anthem!? Please. What change has happened other than putting the attention on him!? Kids, go do some research, look up Rosa Parks and MLK, see how to organize meaningful protest, these are heroes to injustice. Incidentally, don’t care what this loser has to say.

When you make everything about race, you’re a racist.

    ———-

And when you keep denying it exists …

  70. Stop Giving Kap free press. WE DO NOT Want It!!! None of us cares about this loser!!! Signed All of us! He is an Embarrassment to the USA and the 49ers! This is a good argument for not paying these clowns and offering Big Guaranteed Contracts!!! IDIOTS!!! The 49ers may have cursed themselves! Cut this Loser already!

  71. Actually Colin, what’s embarassing is watching a clipboard holder like you make a mockery out of your national anthem. I was raised to stand at attention, take my hat off and show respect for the people that surrendered their lives so I could enjoy a better life. If I pulled a childish stunt like you my old man would have gone up one side of me and down the other. It’s your right to protest, men and women died to give you that right. Its just too bad you exercise that right in such a childish and classless way.
You embarrass yourself, your team, and your league. Show a little respect, some people have earned it. You havent.

  72. I don’t agree with the guy but he’s entitled to his opinion. As they say, that and a token gets you on the subway.

To me, the debate was revealing at so many levels and in so many ways.

  73. I would not want to be a politician in this country, no matter what you do, half the country hates you no matter what and pounces on every single thing you do. It is like living with your ex-wife and your ex-in-laws. No matter what you do, they are always going to hate you.

  74. I don’t agree with Colin’s kneeling bull. And I do agree that it was an embarrassment. keep wasting money politicians so we can hear your lies. Politicians are the lowest of low. it’s legalized criminals. it’s a joke!

  75. Careful Kap, you are going to anger the bigots, racists and low intelligence voters of Donald Drumpf.
    Drumpf is a national embarrassment.
going back over the last 10 days, Drumpf has LIED 216 times…..LIED!!!
Not my opinion, done by fact checkers.
That just tells you HOW DUMB the right wing base is. Sad.

  76. It is embarrassing.

It’s like Roger Goodell is running against Jim Irsay to be my personal spokesman.

I’d take George Costanza laying face down on the floor with his pants around his ankles over either of them any day of the week.

    Vote Vandelay 2016.

  77. Or you could just vote differently and not be part of the problem.

Trump and Hillary are the two worst candidates in history (at least recently) and the sad truth is they aren’t even that far apart policy-wise. They just present it differently. They’re both big government liberals so who the government in your bedroom, in your wallet, reading all your email and texts, and in your neighborhoods patting you down.

Don’t hurt people and don’t take their stuff.

  78. I guess he wanted to hear more about Federal funding for Billionaires to build bigger stadiums for him to play in. Pretty much every increase in public funding for stadiums has found its way into player pay.

  79. To all of you commenting with the same tired line of “Who cares about what he thinks?”

Let me help you out.. YOU CARE!!

Otherwise you wouldn’t have felt the need to read and comment on it. If you TRULY didn’t care, you’d of scrolled right past it. Since you didn’t, it’s pretty evident that he strikes a nerve with you.

  80. Why don’t you earn some respect and talk about how 70% of black kids grow up with no father? Maybe talk about how the actual #1 threat to black males is other black males?

But that would be reality, obviously its much easier to talk in sound bites while you wear your pig socks.

    5 9

you do know that hillary had some1 killed years ago. you know people died because of her lack of action in libya. you do know that the clinton foundation is one of the biggest scams ever and about to be prosecuted.

  82. His anthem protest really rubbed me the wrong way at first. Later, I remembered that I have been wondering for years why “America The Beautiful” isn’t our national anthem, as it is a far superior song to the parody of a British drinking song that we are currently using, and that he has the right to protest in this manner. Now that my city has been attacked by people who think social injustice is a license to commit terrorist acts (and make no mistake, the violence in Charlotte last week was domestic terrorism), I have absolutely no problem with a man that wants to make a protest that involves no violence, no matter how much I disagree with the method of protesting.

And his statement on the debate? Spot on, except for the “lesser of 2 evils” part. Don’t vote for either of them. There are 2 other candidates on the ballot. Vote for one of them.

  83. I’m forced to agree with Colin on this one. From Hillary’s first shot about “Trumped up” it was all downhill. Anyone who expected substance hasn’t been paying attention.

The only statement made that was relevant was that we need to stop bleeding jobs. No other issue is close in importance. And not just college degree jobs, someone has to do actual, physical work.

Without jobs for middle & those a step down from middle we’re attached to another object by an incline plane wrapped helically around an axis.

Not in NE. No public funding.

  85. I agree with him. It was like watching two sibilings bickering. It is bad representation of our country and no way the future president should act.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You, Sir, are absolutely correct in this part of your post!!! He gets on MY last nerve. He brought his stance into his workplace, when people watch football to get away from politics and the news grind everyday. He has now gone to a HS football game, to make a stand with them…impressionable young men. What a great mentor..sarcasm intended. I got here late to the “party”, it seems, based on other comments. You disrespect my Flag and my country and you disrespect me!!!!! Do it on your own time, and nobody will complain & maybe listen…smh…PFT and the players union are wondering why TV ratings have been down every week, so far this year????? For 1 contributing factor, look no further…….

  89. Like Kelly told one reporter in a presser, you should stop asking him questions. The reporter thought it was inappropriate for Kaepernick to answer political questions. Where was this questioned asked?

  90. He’s talking about evil, and he wears Fidel Castro shirt to his press conference talking about oppression in America? Castro was one of the most Evil leaders of our time.
    You gotta be kidding me!

  91. Yes, well it’s embarrassing to watch a grown man kiss his biceps on a football field too, but we’ve had to watch that from him.

  92. Well quit being sheep and vote for someone else then. There are plenty of other options. This idea we have to choose between one of these two idiots is exactly what is wrong with this country. Think it’s a “wasted vote”? If everyone actually stood up for themselves and “wasted” their vote on other candidates, well then to two headed idiot show would take notice and something might actually change. That won’t happen though. The TV is powerful. On with the show!

Where do people come up with this nonsense. Various fact checking sources have them both telling lies. Trump said over 50 lies and Hillary less than 20.

If you checked out Hillary’s history you’d learn her father was a bigot and Hillary went on to admire Martin Luther King and dedicated herself at a young age to fight for equal rights. Both her and Bill. Why do you think people refer to Bill Clinton as the first Black President…

  94. To mediasloppy

She is a old school pol in a dress but the Donald is a real phony. Roy Cohn was his lawyer early in his career and I can’t imagine 2 bigger bags of wind without any morals.

  95. Oh good I was wondering what Kap thought
so coureageous. Did he have his Fidel shirt again? You know cuz he opposes oppression.
If this country is so bad how come they are not any protests going on in DC??? Oh wait…..never mind

  96. He was right. They are both proven liars. But you know who else is a proven liar, Barack Obama. (He lied about Benghazi. He said if you like your plan you can keep it.) Obama lies all the time. Will Kaepernick ever call Obama a proven liar. No, because Obama’s black.

How is Donald Trump a racist? Just because David Duke endorsed him? No one talks about Luis Farrakhan endorsing Trump.

LOL. I guess you never heard of Trump’s hotel policy back in the days that pretty much said colored people need not apply. Or that he made his political career trying to portrait the first black President incompetent by claiming he wasn’t from this Country, was a Muslim or not smart enough to “really” be in Harvard.

And you can bet your bottom dollar if Farrakhan endorsed Obama it would be spun as some Muslim takeover.

So I will give you this. Trump isn’t a white power racist, rather an ignorant older white guy who stereotypes people by race.

  98. and most of America would say that his play at QB was embarrassing. Deer caught in headlights is not a good look for a grown man.
