Carson Wentz named NFC offensive player of the week

The Eagles haven’t been shy about comparing Carson Wentz to some of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL after a short time in the league, which may be hyperbolic but Wentz has certainly been playing well.

He led the team to an emphatic 34-3 victory over the Steelers in Week Three to move the Eagles to 3-0 as they head into their bye week. Wentz was 23-of-31 for 301 yards and two touchdowns in the win and ran his streak of throws without an interception to start a career to 102 before the day was over.

That was enough to make him the choice for NFC offensive player of the week honors for the third week of the regular season. He’s also made a strong case to be the offensive rookie of the month for September, although Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is also likely to get some support for that prize.

Whether Wentz wins that or not, the Eagles are thrilled with their choice and Wentz looks like he’ll be running the offense in Philadelphia long enough to have plenty of other chances to win awards.

  1. The future of football, ladies and gentlemen. Get used to seeing his name everywhere forever.

  2. Why would Dak win rookie of the month over him? Dak has looked good but Wentz has higher QBR, more TDs, more yards, less weapons and most importantly more wins. Dak is a game manager, Wentz is a playmaker

  3. Dak prescott has better supporting cast around him than wentz… But wentz still has scored more TDs( would be more if not for drops) …
I cannot fathom a situation where Dak would win anything over wentz.. So far atleast.

bring bad luck to; cast an evil spell on.
    “the play is jinxed”
synonyms: curse, cast a spell on, put the evil eye on, hex
    “the family is jinxed”

Please stop talking about the 0 Interceptions.

  5. I’m pretty sure the Vikings defense should be the offensive player of the week, again.

But props to Wentz. The kid did good

  6. Dak or Wentz? Watch them play…it’s not even close.

Carson Wentz is not just playing like the NFC Player of the Month. Or Rookie of the Year. Or even the best QB in the NFL. He’s playing like the best player in the NFL, period.

I know, I know..it sounds nuts. But it’s true. We Philly fans are in shock at this kid. The numbers don’t tell the whole story. Just watch him play. I’ve never seen anything like it.

  7. Is it possible that no one yet knows how to game plan for a new HC and rookie QB? How can Doug’s tendencies be gamed when he’s new at this? Will the success continue when there’s about six weeks of film? It will be interesting to watch.

    Carson Wentz, QB PHI 66 102 64.7 769 7.54 73 5 0 4 103.8 256
    19 Dak Prescott, QB DAL 66 99 66.7 767 7.75 47 1 0 4 93.3 256

Stat lines would say differently. Yards/game is a fraction of a point different, total yards there are only 2 yards different. The main difference is TDs as neither have thrown an INT. That drives Wentz rating up. Dak’s Y/A is slightly better not much.

Point is stats say they have both done almost exactly the same thing. To imply he is head and shoulders over Dak and it not even close is just being a homer and listening to local radio shows too much. The one good win Wentz has is against the the Steelers. That was an impressive overall win, he deserved the award. He definitely looks as if he will be a star, but Dak appears to have a good future as well. Time will tell. I know this, if both of these QB’s keep this up it could be fun the watch the NFC East for a while.

  9. He is the greatest QB in league history and we should probably just shut the whole thing down now.

  10. Poor Browns fans….

This kid reminds me of Aaron Rodgers, athleticism and can throw on the run…

  11. As a cowboys fan, I’d have to give the nod to Wentz over Dak thus far. I believe both will be very good for along time, and Eli is obviously still in top form. This division is going to be very fun to watch for the next 5 plus years.

  12. I’m a NDSU Bison fan and I have been posting on Wentz stories since he was drafted. I tried to explain to the Eagles fans that were mad about giving up those picks that it will look cheap once you see what he can do. I also said he was the best player on your team the day he was drafted. I figured he would be doing this around mid season so Pederson deserves some credit getting Wentz going this quickly. I don’t hate the say I told you so.

  13. Dallas fans turn an announcement about a rookie winning player of the week into a Dak-mania pompom session.

Dak is the backup in Dallas. Or did I miss something. Is Dak playing when Romo comes back? Could get interesting, just sayin’.

    ………………………………………………………..

You don’t read, do you? I said it goes beyond numbers. You obviously haven’t watched the kid play. You haven’t listened to him. He is running the offense like Peyton Manning. I’m not exaggerating. Dak will likely be the next Cowboys QB and looks good. But it’s not even close.

  16. As an Eagles fan I hate to give credit to the Cowboys but Dak looks like steal from the 4th round. How is Goff the 1st overall pick and Dak is 4th rounder? It looks to me like it could have been flipped going off recent results.

  17. Wentz is kinda of like Tim Tebow ,Tim hit a home run his first time at bat on the first pitch !

  18. I am very pleased with Carson Wentz’s performance so far this season and do Believe that he is “THAT GOOD” only time will tell at this point , I’m looking forward to his leading this team for years to come. I do believe that he is the real deal !!

  19. Dak Prescott destroyed the Bears on national TV. All Wentz did was manage a game where the defense took care of an overrated Steelers team. Yet Wentz gets the accolades. Hmmm. Wentz is white, and Prescott is black. I wonder why the NFL chose to give this undeserved award to Wentz over Prescott.

I’m face palming here, Literally. And I’m black.
Come on man. $1000 says that you’re under 30.

  21. Last week the Bears were nothing. They lose multiple defensive starters and now it’s a big deal to be good against them. Coming in Dallas is suppose to have the best o-line, a top 3 wr, good secondary wrs, a TE that’s productive, but on the downside, a rb back picked at 4. Eagles have ok wrs, a good TE, a pretty good o-line, a below average group of RBs, they had to use the screen game as their running game,( besides when they reached into the steelers chest and ripped out their heart) and destroyed a team everyone talked about as a real contender. Yeah it’s probably a race thing.

In a month they will play in primetime. We could get an answer then. Unless, of course, that racist Jerry Jones benches Dak for that white kid Romo. (sarcasm)
