Bills complete shut out of Patriots

AP

Ten days after becoming the toast of the league for drawing up a game plan that kept the Texans from scoring a single point, the Patriots have gone without scoring a point.

Buffalo beat the Patriots 16-0 in Foxboro on Sunday.

Via the Elias Sports Bureau, it’s the first time since November 1937 that an NFL team has gone from pitching a shut out at home one week to being shut out at home the next week. (It happened to the Giants, at the Polo Grounds.) It’s also the first time the Patriots have been shut out at home since 1993, against the Jets.

It was an ugly end to Tom Brady’s suspension for the Patriots, with quarterback Jacoby Brissett not nearly as effective as he was in Week Three against the Texans. He seemed at times to be both favoring and hampered by his injured right thumb.

For the Bills, the win evens their record at 2-2, with consecutive victories against half of last year’s final four teams. Now trailing the Patriots by only one game with a rematch looming in Buffalo, the Bills could make things interesting in the AFC East. If the Bills keep playing the way they have the last two weeks, maybe they will.

  1. The officials gave the game to Buffalo from the beginning . We never had a chance because it was rigged. They thoutt that no one would watch with Brady out and they could steal one but real fans keep an eye out for crooked career officials. We need officials that are outsiders and not tainted by Commander in Cheat Goodell.

  2. Rex wins again. Hope people will start giving credit where it’s deserved. “Durrrr But Pats were using a 3rd string QB!” Yes but everyone and their mother still predicted a Pats blowout. Best 2 weeks to be a Bills fan ever in a long, long while. Like him or not, Rex Ryan deserves credit here. The PATS were out coached on this day.

  3. The Bills played well no doubt good job by them. The Patriots had a sloppy game all around but didn’t have Brady or a 100% Gronk to bail them out.

Going 3-1 without Brady is a success. See ya in about a month Bills fans.

  4. Really dont understand the Garappolo injury. Ofcourse the media sucks but making it look like he was almost going to play last week? I thought maybe at half he could come in and blow things up for his contract.

  5. Belichick could only get away without Brady for so long. Anyone saying he could win with any QB is sorely mistaken. He needs Brady and luckily he gets him back next week. Brissett isnt ready

  6. I love the Patriots. ..but today they were not prepared. .poor execution on EVERY ONE..
Losing to Rex. ..I am going to continue to drink my night away

  7. Bills are a decent team. Still have some flaws. I’d like Tyrod to play a little better at qb but I understand he doesn’t have any weapons in the pass game. I thought they’d be 2-2 but didn’t see them beating the cards or pats. Go Buffalo!

  8. Where all the “system QB” clowns at? Oh right, you are time traveling to next week.

3-1 with the C team, and next week we will show you our real selves.

    Eerily familiar rant, no?

  10. Great game, Bills!

Now, what are the odds of Brady’s return lining up with The Ewing Theory?

  11. There is no question this loss was dictated by the NFL Gustapo. The refs were terrible from the start. Again, a case of the entire NFL – both league and teams – jealous of the pats success, so they try to rig it for us to lose.

  12. So they go 3-1 without Brady and they’re in first place. And Brady was saved 4 games of wear and tear. And they found out Garrapolo can ball. Even if Brady played these 4 games, most fans would have been happy with 3-1. Things really couldn’t have worked out much better for the Pats.

  13. Gen the refs favored the Bills over the Patriots…lol…you are delusional. The Bills don’t even get calls at home, they sure don’t them in Gillette. I’ll keep it short, and sweet…The Patriots lost.

  14. Good job, Bills. You beat a 3rd string rookie QB. Wear it with all the pride I know you have.

  15. Congrats to the Bills. They earned it.
But two things are puzzling to me. I have been watching football for over 50 years, and have never seen a play blown dead because the officials weren’t in position to officiate. I could understand on a long play, but a third and one? Also, the roughing the passer on Long. He barely touched him.
I think the Bills still win, but it really makes you wonder what is going on. I mean, the NFL can’t let the Pats go 4-0 without Brady, right?
    Again, congrats to the Bills.

  16. After the home debacle against the Jets a few weeks ago. I doubt many football fans thought the Bills were going to beat the Cardinals at home and the Patriots in Foxboro to pretty much save their season. Good for them.

Get used to it cheat fans. The 95% of you that weren’t around before 2001, this is the Pats football we all know and love. Coming weekly to a field near you in 2018.
    ————————————–
Being one of the 5% you referred to, I have to disagree, the Pats were competitive many years. The Patriots will continue to win a large percentage of the time in the not to distant future with the next starting QB, Jimmy Garappolo.

  18. The Bills were the better team today. Yes, i realize the Pats were without Brady and a healthy Gronk. Remember, Buffalo didnt have Watkins or Dareus. All week Pats nation claimed they could win with anyone under center…. Not today. Not only a win for Buffalo, but a shutout. See you in a month in Buffalo.

  19. 3-1 without Brady, 11-5 that yr w Matt Cassell…. I’m no patriots fan but I know a good team when I see it. You haters are silly

Pats will still win the division. It’ll be a whole different game with Brady
    *****
That’s true. Mainly because NE has never had serious contenders vying for the division. Outside of NE, that division has sucked for the past 12-14 years. No consistent challenge from the other 3 teams.

  21. Somewhere Bob Ryan is patting himself on the back for beating a 3rd string QB and an injured Gronk.

  22. But but it’s the system!

    Oh.

  23. Oh the Bills fans are feeling good again!
    Doesn’t take much, does it?

How many disappointments can you losers take in the same season?

Roger got his ounce of flesh, and now it is time for everyone to pay the piper.

Can’t wait to see the Bills again. Hopefully Rex is still there in late October.

  24. Embarrassed by Rex Ryan at home. Is Bill Belichick still a genius Nhpats?

  25. I don’t think Rex cared about any other game before this one. Looks like this is the only game he’s been planning for so far this season.

  26. I pity Cleveland next week but this game shows what a Brady less NE is NE defense does not have Tom Brady on it and Buffalo controlled the game. As far as the Refs? That’s BS. There was as many crap calls against Buffalo today. Two lineman shoving each other and that’s taunting ? Cmon NE fans. You are better the. That to blame the refs

  27. I want to apologize for my fellow Patriot fans blaming the refs and making up other excuses, let’s just face the facts the bills were better today.
TB returns on the am. 🙂

  28. You win some, you lose some. Congrats to the Bills.
So…. Brady is a system QB, right haters?
Pats needs a thumping once in awhile. Hopefully this one will spur the team to win the SB just like the last thumping.
I guess Brady will be around for a while yet. Needs time to season to young ones.

  29. How good is your team that you are favored to win with your 3rd string QB with a torn ligament on his throwing hand? what happened here was that, Buffalo beat a 3rd string QB, don’t get shocked. Probably helps Pats down the road, because they are even more pissed off at the world, if that is even possible. Buffalo is 2-2 though and is looking a lot better since they fired their O Coordinator. Go Bills!

  30. Ooooh the refs! Ummmm 3rd string QB! I didn’t hear any of that when you won. Whiniest fanboys ever.

  31. Laughing at the haters celebrating the Patriots going 3-1 without Brady as if their own team just won the Superbowl.

Remember, back when you were rooting for 0-4?

    Now you’re just happy it wasn’t 4-0.

But then, if you are a fan of any team other than the Patriots, you are used to having your expectations lowered on a weekly basis.

  32. Bills offense handled the Pats D. They obviously deserved to win, although it was against the third string qb, who has been in the league for 1 month and was wearing a splint on his throwing hand for an injured thumb. But the only thing that matters is the well rested GOAT who will be back at midnight. Congrats Bills…and good luck to everybody else on the schedule ! You’ll need it ….

  33. Those poor Cleveland Browns…may not be pretty next week against the angry Pats.

Congrats to our Bills! Now go out and win the next 2 winnable games, 4-2 would be an excellent start!!

  34. 2 facts today…

Pats really couldn’t go 4-0 with just anyone under center.

Bills shutout a team playing a 3rd string QB.

With that said, BB gonna make the entire defense practice tackling this week.

  35. Oh the Bills fans are feeling good again!

Roger got his ounce of flesh, and now it is time for everyone to pay the piper.

Can’t wait to see the Bills again. Hopefully Rex is still there in late October.

  36. No excuses Patriots got whooped. Offense couldn’t move and when they were starting to they stalled and the defense stayed out on the field for way too long. I hope the Pats can get their act together next week and use this loss as a learning experience.

  37. There are no excuses. The Patriots played like crap in all three phases. And I’m a Pat’s fan. It was disgusting to watch the horrible play from the squad. Can’t excuse that low level of play today.

  38. It’s just a game. Bills killed them but obviously they played a raw rookie qb. bills didn’t have 4 projected starters.
Pats are still my pick to win super bowl. It’s actually refreshing to see pats fans give a compliment even if it’s for 1 week.
This does nothing to rearrange the order of the division but maybe the Rex defense is finally showing up.. maybe

  39. Pats without their best player, Bills without their two best players (watkins, dareus). Good win for the Bills, bad loss for the Pats.

  40. Hollow win for the Bills. A win is a win but…we all know Wrecks would have rather beat a Brady-led team. I’ll bet this isn’t the Super Bowl victory he was hoping for.

  41. Buffalo played a very solid game. Obviously, the officials made, or failed to make calls that matched up with reality at critical junctures, HOWEVER, the Patriots compounded that by making multiple mistakes after those incidents, which is what losers do. The kick returner clearly did not help matters. Additionally, they only threw the ball 3 times in the first half, inisting on running against a good run defense. Knowing they had an injured rookie third string QB with a wide receiver as his backup, and no emergency QB, they appeared to be protecting him. Then they tried to get serious in the second half but it was more of the same, shooting themselves in the foot on multiple occassions. Brissett looked like 2015 Peyton Manning out there, throwing wounded ducks with that thumb wrapped up. They looked more like the Buffalo Bills than the Bills did. The only bright spot is that hopefully this will eliminate the possibility of a post Brady suspension let down in Cleveland, with everyone standing around and watching Tom Brady try to win the game alone, figuring the game would be in the bag. They don’t play well against Cleveland for some reason, and this will be their first game with a less than mobile QB, and more of a timing based offense. I expect some struggles.

So it’s a good day in Buffalo for a change. Enjoy it. Have another Labatt’s. Tom Brady is coming back soon.

  42. .
The Patriots defense allowed the Bills to build up an early lead knowing that the game plan called for Brissett to manage the game, not win it singlehandedly, Brady style. At 10-0, Blount was out of the game and essentially, it was over.
    .

  43. Not a pats fan. Brady is not a system Qb. He is a great Qb. That being said, last week Brissett was a future hall of famer according to pats fans. This week he’s a 3rd string rookie. So which one is it?

  44. Pats haters:

THIS IS YOUR TIME – BRING IT ON!!!!!

(Just remember their history of the next game after a stinkeroo, so there won’t be an opportunity like this for a LONG time, especially since #12 is BACK!!

And where were your comments about a 3rd string QB last week when the Pats won. And somewhere along the line I heard many people, including Pats fans saying that Bill could win with ANY QB. Remember this…When Brady goes…so do the Pats.. Jimmy isn’t Brady..

  46. Haven’t heard from the Tee Hee sissy yet….guess mom sent him to his room because he kept stamping his feet while shrieking in his high pitched voice.

Arrogance is a bitter pill to swallow…especially when losing to wrecks.

  47. The Offensive line was HORRENDOUS, and the defense completely SUCKED at tackling. Even Gostkowski missed a field goal.

Patriots sucked on every facet of the game.

Kudo’s to Rex Ryan and the Bills, for executing a solid game plan.

  48. I see a lot of comments along the lines of “I thought Brady was a system QB, HATERS!” It takes a pretty pathetic fan base to point to a shutout loss as evidence of how amazing they are.

Oh, and for the record, Buffalo was without their best offensive (Watkins) and defensive (Dates) players.

If the Bills can win this game today what will the Steeler excuse be when Tom Brady and company beats you by 30 in your place?

  50. This is what happens when one team reads its own press clippings and hype by the media , and another team ignores what the media is constantly spewing out about them . Uncharacteristically sloppy football played by the Pats . Great win for the Bills

  51. Congrats to the Bills…you beat a Patriots team that started their 3rd string QB that had his hand all taped up because of a torn ligament. Bravo

To be honest, I didn’t really want the Patriots to go 4-0 without Brady. All that would do is bring out all the “system QB” trolls. Plus, it would put more pressure on Brady to keep the team undefeated. Then once they lost, more trolls would come out and say “Brady’s done. They’d probably still be undefeated with Garoppolo/Brissett”. So all in all 3-1 without Brady is perfectly imperfect.

Your feet still sore from stamping and that masculine shrieking your mom hates? Sure switch to the Steelers to avoid the embarrassment of losing to wrecks. Tee Hee.

  53. Brissett was a future hall of famer according to pats fans

I would be happy to laugh at any post that put Brissett in the hall of fame.

I suspect there are no such posts though.. too bad.

I do think Brissett played better today than last week.

Not at all. House money baby. 🙂 Sure I wanted a win but if they didn’t no big deal. 🙂

Sorry that your Steelers have no shot in a few weeks. Don’t be mad…there is no shame losing to the very best QB that ever graced an NFL field with his presence.

1 1 Tee Hee a couple of weeks is a long time in the NFL….and the Steelers have played a lot of good QBs none of whom were suspended for cheating…..chew on that cup cake …TeeHee

  56. Every year a team, any team adopts an identity that carries them to the end of a season. Right now the Patriots’ defense seems to be adopting a little bit of a “Jeckell and Hyde” identity. Hopefully Tom will ground the WHOLE team and not just the offensive side of it.

Yeah that makes sense…two guys that probably touch the ball about 6 times a game combined is the same thing as missing your starting QB. How many catches does Watkins have again this year?

  58. The Pats were beat, fair and square. Bills did what is needed to do what every team needs to do, keep the Pats offense off the field and eat clock. I am surprised it was a shut out.

  59. I’m a Pats fan and I’ve come on a couple of times, acknowledged that we got our butts handed to us, no excuses, congratulated the Bills, and then extended my condolences to the Browns.

(Not that I care but) What more do you want?

Part of the FUN of being a Pats fan is being obnoxious and arrogant, and part of the DUTY of being a Pats fan is acknowledging it when we get beat, doffing my hat to the victor.

Some of you hate it when I refer to them as MY Pats.

(Not that I care but) what’s wrong with that?

  60. Bills came to play. Congrats to them. Enjoy it. Pats will see you again later this year…
