The Cowboys got off to an ugly start today in San Francisco, trailing 14-0 and having a drive come to an end on a Dak Prescott sack. And then a controversial call benefited them in a big way.

With Prescott wrapped up and his progress stopped, 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt came in and hit him after the whistle had blown. It wasn’t an intentionally dirty play by Tartt, but it was enough to draw a flag for a 15-yard penalty.

Thanks to that 15 yards, the Cowboys marched down the field and scored a touchdown. Then they got the ball back, drove down the field and scored again, making it 14-14 just before halftime.

If the Cowboys come back to win this one, the 49ers will point to that penalty on Tartt as a game changer.
