Rams take lead, Palmer leaves for concussion evaluation

Los Angeles Rams v Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are going to need a score in the final minutes to beat the Rams and it looks like Drew Stanton may be the quarterback when they try to get it.

Carson Palmer was sacked by Aaron Donald and Eugene Sims on a third down in the fourth quarter and his head slammed into the turf hard on his way down. He was immediately met by medical personnel and looked at on the sideline before heading to the locker room for further evaluation.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians appeared to be upset that no penalty was called on the play, presumably because it looked like Donald may have hit Palmer low but the head injury appeared to come when Palmer’s head hit the turf as opposed to a blow directly to the head from either Ram.

Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin returned the ensuing punt 47 yards and a facemask penalty moved the Rams even closer to the end zone. They made good on their field position with an eight-yard pass to Todd Gurley that set up a four-yard touchdown pass to Brian Quick for a 17-13 lead with 2:36 left in the game.

It’s Quick’s second touchdown catch of the day and the Cardinals are going to need a second touchdown of their own to avoid a 1-3 start to the season.

UPDATE 7:19 p.m. ET: Stanton is in the game for the Cardinals with the two minute warning approaching.
