On Thursday, four days before being fully reinstated to the Browns and the NFL, receiver Josh Gordon voluntarily checked himself into rehab. A reason for the move wasn’t given at the time.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the move arises from an alcohol problem.

It’s unclear whether Gordon failed a test or feared failing a test before entering rehab. Given the relatively short time that alcohol remains in the system (especially in comparison to marijuana), it should be a lot easier to avoid a positive alcohol test.

Whatever the reason for or the extent of the condition, here’s hoping Gordon gets the help he needs and returns to the NFL. The Browns reportedly are done with him; given his talent, someone else would surely give him another chance.
