Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said he could have put quarterback Trevor Siemian back in the game on Sunday at Tampa. Whether Kubiak will be able to put Siemian in the game at all next Sunday against the Falcons remains to be seen.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Siemian has an AC joint sprain in his non-throwing shoulder. An MRI will be performed on Monday.
According to another source, it won’t be a surprise if Siemian misses a game, maybe two, as the shoulder heals.
As a practical matter, any absence from Siemian would open the door for first-rounder Paxton Lynch to swipe the starting job. If he performs well (and perform well he did on Sunday in relief of Siemian, completing 14 of 24 for 170 yards and a touchdown), Kubiak can apply the time-honored “100 percent rule” to Siemian, allowing Kubiak to ride Lynch’s hand while it’s hot -- and then to bench him without benching him by declaring Siemian to be 100 percent, if/when Lynch cools off.
Regardless of who the quarterback is, the Broncos keep rolling. Just like last year, when the quarterback play was far shakier than it’s been to date in 2016.
