Jim Schwartz offers up memorable quote on Nigel Bradham

Eagles linebacker Nigel Bradham spent his bye week getting arrested for forgetting to remove a loaded gun from his backpack before trying to get through airport security. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz spent a portion of his Thursday press conference sharing his feelings on the matter, in blunt fashion.

Said Schwartz regarding Bradham, “You do dumbass things, pretty soon you’ll be labeled a dumbass.”

It’s a refreshing twist on the perfunctory team-issued “we are aware of the situation and will have no further comment pending the resolution of the legal process” nonsense, and it’s something that more coaches need to be willing to say.

But here’s the thing. Something like that never would be said about a star player on the Eagles or any other team. Still, it’s good to see that someone is willing to say something candid, and accurate, about the careless manner in which implements of deadly force routinely are handled.

If, after all, you’re not sufficiently cautious with a loaded gun that you fail to remember where your loaded gun is, maybe you shouldn’t have one. And maybe you are a dumbass.

  1. It was pretty dumbass thing to do. Imagine if he was stopped by police and asked if he had a firearm. If he forgot and they found it during a search…he’d have a larger issue. I know that’s a what if. But it was very dumb on his part.

  2. Any other Constitutional rights you think should be stripped from people that don’t exercise what you consider to be sufficient caution?

Lol, actually I’m pretty certain Schwartz would say whatever about anyone. OBJ just got called out by McAdoo, and there’s plenty of other examples.

Not really. It was in his backpack. It’s not like if they searched his bag and find a gun (that he can’t get to), they are just going to start shooting him.

You are not obligated to tell anyone you have a gun with you. If he was searched by police, said he didn’t have a gun, but wound up having one, BUT has a license to carry, he did nothing wrong. If he doesn’t have a license to carry, he’s going to jail if he tells police he has it initially or not

The only people who would think like you are police haters

No one has a “Constitutional right” to carry a firearm through an airport. That’s just being a dumbass.

What part of “shall not be infringed” do you not understand?

  7. No one is permitted to pass security with a weapon and taking it away violates no ones rights. The only people permitted past security check points with weapons are those deemed security by the federal government. So let’s just stop saying he was entitled to carry a gun last TSA screening Its a federal law and it’s a good one

Not saying he is stupid. I forgot I have a knife in my back pack once. I was stopped. Searched and was permitted to go to a FedEx location in the airport and mail it home. No biggie. Loaded guns are a little different. If you have a gun or rifle it must be checked in prior to the flight with TSA in a locked hard case and out in the baggage compartment.

  8. This is in Philly. Nothing to see here. You can make an inappropriate comment on someone’s mom and then 5 minutes later it be completely forgotten.

Carrying a weapon on an airliner does not fall under the “being necessary to the security of a free State” part. There are regulations provided as necessary.

The 2nd Amendment does does not state an age limit, but common sense determines toddlers
packing heat is not within the framers intention. I’m as big a 2nd Amendment supporter as anyone
can be, but common sense must always prevail.

  10. Schwartz probably doesn’t have what it takes to be a successful Head Coach in this league, even though he could very well likely get another shot.

But damn, if he isn’t the absolute prototypical DC, especially when he speaks like this. Stay in Philly, Jimmy Shwahz!

  11. Dont put words in hi John. He didn’t say anything about the gun specifically. He said dumbass things. The first time he got arrested was for a fight. This Time for his gun. What’s the common link? Getting arrested. Obviously that’s what he was talking about.

Also Bradham has been 1 of the best players on the defense. Only Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham have been better. So to say Schwartz wouldn’t say what he said to one of his best players is inaccurate.
