It’s almost like Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston had a message, or had one drilled into his head.
Via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Winston made 11 references to ball security in a nine-minute press conference, saying he needed to “protect the football,” “take care of the football” and not “give the other team the ball,” among others.
“Teams usually come with whatever game plan they have, and it’s typically pretty good,” he said. “But like I said, it’s more about me protecting the football and not teams doing things in particular.”
Of course, Winston has thrown eight interceptions and fumbled twice in four games, so giving it away 2.5 times per game is something he can’t continue if the Bucs are to progress.
Of course, without running back Doug Martin out there to help him, Winston’s under more pressure to get things done himself. At least he knows it, or has been told enough to be able to repeat it.
