Lions promote Longa, activate Bryant

The Lions activated defensive end Armonty Bryant and promoted linebacker Steve Longa on Saturday.

Wide receiver Aaron Dobson and offensive lineman Brian Mihalik were released.

Bryant had served a four-game suspension to start the year and was released by the Browns last week when the suspension expired. He signed with the Lions but was still on a roster exemption before being activated.

Longa is an undrafted rookie who broke into the NFL with the Seahawks and signed with the Lions practice squad last month. The Lions are without two of their best defenders, linebacker DeAndre Levy and defensive end Ziggy Ansah, for Sunday’s game vs. the Eagles, so Bryant and Longa will likely be in uniform for that game.
