Dak and Zeke make history

The Cowboys have rocketed to a 4-1 record, fueled in large part by a pair of rookies who have done something no two rookies ever have done in league history.

With 134 rushing yards from running back Ezekiel Elliott and 227 passing yards from quarterback Dak Prescott, the Cowboys have the first two first-year players to rush for 500 or more yards and to pass for 1,000 or more yards in the first five games of a season.

Prescott’s performance will surely increase the chatter that he should continue to play, even after starter Tony Romo’s fractured vertebrate heals. The Cowboys continue to insist that Romo will be back when he’s healthy.

At some point, however, the Cowboys may be tempted to apply a higher bar to the question of whether Romo is healthy.

  1. I’m gonna b really upset if they put romo back in he’s a total progress stopper at this point I was always a fan of his too

  2. I don’t agree with most of what Florio says, but, I agree that you won’t see a controversy if it gets to that point, because Romo will just not be “healthy” as soon as people think.

  3. Typical Cowboy Fan, “ZOMG WHY WOULD YOU DRAFT A RUNNING BACK 4, AND A YANKEE BUCKEYE BUST AT THAT??? IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!! NO BUCKEYE HAS EVER BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THE NFL EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!”

5 weeks later, “I tweeted Jerry Jones and told him to take Elliott, he is the best ever! And I also told them to take Dak. He isn’t like a lot of black QBs(quincy carter, I am looking at you) he is smart!

You can click that little thumbs down button all you like, but if you are a Cowboys fan, you know damn well there are plenty that think EXACTLY like I just posted.

  4. Prescott’s impressive. This Redskins fan is gonna roll the dice & say, “I hope Romo’s first game back will be Thanksgiving”

  5. The Cowboys know they are not playing in the Hunger Games right. The only reason to put a fragile Tony Romo back out there is to see him either be injured for life or killed for the entertainment of the audience.

  6. I have NEVER cared about who plays for us (COWBOYS). The way I look at it is simple…does a pro football player care if you eat dinner tonight?…NO, they don’t. I only care about wins and losses. I have NO loyalty for any player. If you win, you are my guy!

  7. If Romo comes back, the offense won’t be the same. It could be bad for the locker room to put Romo back because all of the players believe in Dak. Its a tough call. Romo is a good veteran, which is what you need should they make the playoffs, but Dak is playing so well.

  8. The only reason Dak was available in the 4th round was because he flunked a drug test. He was considered a late 1st or 2nd rounder before that incident. Now some might say the Cowboys were smart but really it was more luck. If they were they smart they wouldn’t have waited until the 4th round. As far as Elliot he is a good runner who was taken with the 4th overall pick and time will tell if that was a smart move. The Cowboys have a good offensive line and there are a lot og guys who would be successful running behind that group.

    Completely wrong.

First, it was an alleged DUI which Prescott was acquitted of. Second, Prescott was considered a consensus 3rd or later pick before that. Finally, you’re right about the line, but some can exploit the holes better than others.

  10. It doesn’t matter if Dallas “got lucky” with Dak or not. They picked him, which they wouldn’t have done if they felt Moore and Showers were capable, and that’s all that matters. You can say now “if Dallas was so smart they’d have taken him earlier” but what does that say about the 31 other teams who didn’t take him before Dallas? And we all know had Dallas drafted him any earlier Jerry would’ve been dogged for taking him too early as opposed to addressing other needs. Dallas took Elliott (a projected 1st round pick) in the 1st round and was dogged for it and how’s that working out? And I’m (not) sorry but a DUI was no reason to avoid Dak compared to what could be said about a lot of other draft picks. Some of y’all just can’t accept that Jerry Jones got him and he turned out to be good. And to say Dallas would’ve picked him earlier if they were smart is dumb. What GM wouldn’t love to use 1st-3rd round picks and still get to draft the player Dak turned out to be in the 4th? And I’m sure some will throw out that Jerry wanted to draft Paxton Lynch but consider Jimmy Johnson wanted to draft Junior Seau, Cortez Kennedy and Percy Snow before watching them go off the board and drafting Emmitt Smith and he’s considered a legend (which he was) that everybody still bashes Jerry for letting go.

  11. It’s still early in the season. Let’s see if HC/GM JJ and puppet Garrett will screw it up but I do have to say I like how things are going.

I still think Romo, when healthy, is a good and entertaining QB to watch but if he’s finally released as “HEALTHY”, and the Cowboys are still winning, I want to see Dak stay in and push for rookie of the year.

And PFT picked the Bengals to win.

And Eagles lost. Sorry Eagles fans, it was still to early to anoint him as king but it’s going to be a nice rivalry for the next decade if both Wentz and Dak stay healthy.

neither of that matters….Dallas may have gotten lucky (which i dont believe), but that’s not what people should discuss. Prescott is (in my book) for real and honestly, i liked him coming out of college and wondered why a team like the Browns didnt draft him in round 2!!!

the story though is about the rookies and of course will Dak keep the job. the 2nd question wont be answered until Jerry decides and if i were him, i’d keep Dak. Romo did great things for his team, but Dak is a rookie and was the future, but now he’s the present and the future. i’m sure Romo is a fine QB and i still think (if healthy) he can go, but Dak is the better play for now and the future….by the way, the Browns should be kicking themselves.

So, by your rationale, teams that picks a player in the later rounds that pans out aren’t smart because they waited that long to pick them. And if they were smart, they wouldn’t have waited that long to pick them.

I just want to make sure I understood you correctly and that you actually just said that.

So, can teams draft only one good player in a draft, or will you allow them to draft another potentially good player before they draft another one or two in the later rounds? Because it seems smarter (to me at least) to draft more than 1 or two good players bin a draft, meaning that at least 1 of them might be a later round pick that pans out. Plus, the lower the round a player is selected, the less expensive that palyers salary would be.

The smartest thing a team can do is get the best player they can as late in the draft as they can as long as they get that player. I would call being able to pick up Prescott in the 4th round a pretty smart pick.

  14. @boyz fan….. Im pissed that my team lost to Det. Today. Wentz brought the team back and got em ahead. Probably would be unbeaten if mathews couldve held on to the ball but he didnt so that is cool. As for your comment zeke and daz are ballin BIGTIME. Zeke looks like hes still at OSU. Add Dezzy and that oline to the mix and yall are set up on offense for.years!! I hate to say it but i dont think ANYONE wants to play the boys right now. Only time will tell if they can keep it up but if they do dalkas should go deep into the postseason. Thats me being absolutely honest….even though i hate saying it. As for our teams rookie qbs if they both stay healthy and keep getting better I 100% agree with u…. It is.gonna be fun for the forseeable future!! FLY EAGLES FLY!

  15. What a luxury. The Cowboys have two QBs that could start on a lot of teams, and could potentially put every other starter in the division out of a job with the possible exception of Wentz who gets a rookie pass.
