Redskins leave Baltimore with third straight win

The Redskins have a short trip home from Sunday’s road game in Baltimore and it will be a happy one.

They scored the only points of the second half and rallied from a 10-6 halftime deficit to leave Baltimore as 16-10 winners and owners of a three-game winning streak. It looked for a moment like the Ravens pulled out a comeback victory when Breshad Perriman got free of Josh Norman and caught a pass from Joe Flacco in the end zone with 33 seconds to play, but replays made it clear Perriman only got one foot down.

The Ravens would run three more plays, but none got them into the end zone and that meant a second straight loss for the Ravens after a 3-0 start to the year. Until that 14-play drive to end the game, the Ravens had run only 17 plays after halftime as their offense found no success against a defense missing a slew of defensive backs that had shown vulnerabilities against the run earlier in the game.

It’s the better performance that defensive coordinator Joe Barry said that he was hoping to put together this week when discussing his shortcomings this season. Allowing 306 total yards and stopping 12-of-15 third-down tries definitely qualifies as a step in the right direction for a team that had trouble getting off the field in previous weeks.

Those numbers won’t do much to make Flacco feel better about a unit he said makes it tough on themselves while discussing the lack of deep balls relative to other seasons. Flacco tried a few this week, but Perriman dropped one before failing to stay in the end zone at the end of the fourth quarter. Those misses proved to be too much for the Ravens to overcome and luck wasn’t on their side as an interception by C.J. Mosley deep in Redskins territory turned into a touchback when Mosley fumbled out the back of the end zone.

A failed fake field goal, which was telegraphed by Justin Tucker lining up as if he were a left-footed kicker, was another missed opportunity for points and the Redskins didn’t give too many other chances as the afternoon unfolded. Washington couldn’t run the ball and Kirk Cousins wasn’t sharp enough on third downs, but finished the day 29-of-41 for 260 yards and hit Pierre Garcon for the only touchdown of the second half.

That was enough because the defense made the lead stand up once the Redskins grabbed it on Garcon’s score. They’ll try to get the offense in gear when they host the Eagles next week in a game that could be for the lead in the NFC East.

  1. I warned the Ravens fans of the upset. They should have won this game, but didn’t due to the bone headed mistake of turning a pick into a touchback.

  2. Hail to the Redskins!

  3. The Crows have problems and it isn’t their defense. That offense, man, its not good.

Chris Cooley said on ESPN 980 this past Friday, after watching three of the Crows previous games, that the Crows offense reminded him of the Jim Zorn offense he played in with the Skins 6-7 years ago. Very basic, or as an analysis back then described it, high schoolish. Cooley’s assessment seemed spot on after watching the game today.

An offense that was shut out by the Skins in the 2nd half. A Skins defense that will not be compared to the ’85 Bears any time soon.

Anyway, bragging rights with the In-laws for the next 4 years. #HTTR

  4. At least Jump Ball Joe died doing what he loves: heaving deep to nowhere and demanding a PI flag.

  5. Redskins have a bye next week? That’s good, fans need a break from the stress….for crying out loud, RUN THE BALL ON 3rd & 1!!!! My God the playcalling was painful

  6. I dont know who that was that fumbled the ball out of the end zone on that Ravens INT, but that dude should be demoted to locker room attendant. Bone headed play of the century right there.

  7. @logicalvoicesays What is it like being a redskins fan when they were getting smoked by pittsburgh?

  8. There are so many things wrong with this Ravens team.

Mark Trestman has the lamest playbook in the history of the league.

Harbaugh is an idiot for not taking points, time and time again, when this team is not able to generate them effectively.

Then you have bone headed mistake after bone headed mistake by players – HEY C.J. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING????? YOU”RE NOT ED REED MAN!!!!

    WHAT AJOKE MY RAVENS ARE.

And I can’t wait for PFTRAVEN to defend them now. In fact, where has he been??? CHIRP CHIRP

  9. Trestman sucks as so does that O line. Joe put two deep balls in Perrimans hands and he dropped one and didn’t get foot down on the other one.

Maybe don’t fake a field goal, give up a 50 yards punt return and return for TD. Again this loss is on the special teams, coaching and anemic offense. Also, boneheaded play by Mosley after a great play.

    Good job skins.

  10. The Ravens offense has to be the worst in the league. Marc Trestman is a terrible offensive coordinator and needs to be fired very very soon.

  11. LOL Mike Wallace going over the middle on 4th down… That was hilarious. That guy is Charmin soft, he’ll never catch a ball over the middle or that’s even contested.

As much as I hate the Ravens it pains me to see one of their most loyal fan in pain. Hanging in their Kevin they can bounce back…good luck except against the Steelers.

  13. Mike Wallace drops another one. Ravens fans now see what the Vikings and Dolphins fans were subjected to. After the 15 yd penalty last game after a 2 pt conversion that gave the Raiders a win he drops the ball that would have given 1st and goal. That’s 2 out of 5 he’s cost you. Less than half so you’re lucky.

  14. I think the Redskins should have easily won this game..the play calling still baffling… The defensive line still sucks, but the grinded it out.

  15. Dat a boy, Josh!!! calling them the name they will be for another 8million years, REDSKINS!!

    Big ups, Josh!

Go REDSKINS!! Bet florio is just torked at Josh for having an opinion he doesn’t agree with.

It’s not if, but when, florio goes back to calling them their name.

Big game skins, 2-0 on the road

  16. Ravens were calling that game like they thought they were playing the Browns. Instead they ran into a brick wall. Gig’s up for Harbaugh and Newsome. Speaking of brick walls, how is Wallace feeling?

  17. Thanks NoFoolNoDrool. I’m loyal till the end. But what I can’t stand is mediocre product on the field.

  18. Three straight wins. Waiting for the reports from Redskins’ locker room that there was much rejoicing that Cousin is still their Quarterback.

  19. For all the people who trashed the Skins for putting the franchise tag on Cousins because he couldn’t beat a team with a winning record, the last 3 weeks just shows the folly in that thinking. Cousins has now beaten 2: Giants in week 3 and now the Ravens in week 5. I would say this much on the QB, a terrible game out of Cousins in those 2 contests and the Skins don’t win either but he was not the reason they won either game. There are many things in a QBs control and many things out of a QBs control in a game that determine who wins and who loses. The Skins in both cases won those games as a whole with a little help from the other team not being able to execute their gameplan. Now that lack of execution could be because they were poorly coached or they ran plays and made decisions that made no sense or they were out executed by the Skins. Either way, it’s a team game, a team win and while the haters couldn’t believe that Cousins was franchised for not winning a game against a winning team, he has 2 now under his belt and in reality his play wasn’t the difference maker in either game.

  20. There simy have to be better plays in the book for 3rd and 1 then deep play action roll outs where Cousins lobs uncarchable passes downfield.
