Wide receiver Brandon Marshall didn’t play for the Jets when Rex Ryan was the team’s head coach, but he seems to be taking a page from Ryan’s book in the wake of the team’s third straight loss.
After the Bills lost two games to open the season, Ryan said that a Week Three game against the Cardinals gave Buffalo a chance to face the “exact team” they needed to face to start moving in the right direction. There was some scoffing, but the Bills routed the Cardinals and have reeled off two more wins to give their season a much better look than many anticipated it would have after an 0-2 start.
The 1-4 Jets could use the same kind of turnaround and they will get a chance to try to start one against those same Cardinals in Week Six.
“This is a perfect position for us,” Marshall said, via the New York Post. “We have great talent in this room. We’re one of the most talented teams in the league. So, we can do one or two things -- we can fold it up and cry, or we can stick together and continue to work. I’m already over this loss. We’re going to turn this around. I promise you that. Starting right now. I promise you that.”
The Jets will need to be better across the board than they were against the Steelers on Sunday if they’re going to get a win that offers the prospect of turning around a rough start to the season. If they can’t, the climb from 1-5 may be too steep for even Marshall’s sunny outlook.
