Dolphins purge continues, Isaiah Pead latest to get cut

The Dolphins are apparently settling all the family business today.

In addition to the earlier releases of offensive linemen Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner, the team is parting ways with some non-blockers as well.

According to Alex Marvez of the Sporting News, the Dolphins are also releasing running back Isaiah Pead.

After struggling with a hamstring injury early, Pead has just eight carries for 22 yards this season.

It seems clear at this point, the 1-4 Dolphins are making decisions about the organization’s direction, and discarding any veteran players with limited upside. At this point, they might as well look at the kids (either theirs or other people’s), especially at positions where they aren’t exactly deep or talented.

  1. Good teams churn the bottom of their roster to find some gold nuggets and upgrade position competition.

The Dolphins can churn 50 of their players and it makes no difference.

Even if Ross has to clue how to build a football team (or hire someone who does)……..both of which are painfully obvious, how can he not see that the 53 guys wearing his laundry every week are consistently awful…………..you know, since the day he bought the team?

  2. Ummm, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the best time to clean house and rebuild right after the season ends and the off-season begins?

I guess Miami does things differently.

  3. “The Dolphins are apparently settling all the family business today.”

That was perfect, I was channeling Michael Corleone for my comment when I clicked on the link and boom, there it was.
Next perhaps an ‘I know it was you Fredo’ moment for Tannenbaum?

  4. Good for Gase. Needs to send a wake-up call to this team. Guys like Suh, Mario Williams Byron Mawell etc. making big $$$ and then coasting thru games shouldn’t be tolerated. Suh and Maxwell, in particular aren’t playing well enough to justify even HALF of their salary. Need guys on the field who are hungry, not guys just looking to cash in for a few more years. Keep cutting guys until these dudes wise up

  5. Clearly there will be a lot of waivers collected soon enough. I for one am excited by this. I am delighted that Gase is finally making a proactive and positive change. In this case by getting rid of the biggest problems.

Of course, going up against the Steelers this sunday, I wonder if RT should even play, we’ll only have 4 players on the o-line, and we should probably punt every 1st down to save RT’s life.

  6. Seems like all of the Phins fan trolls have gone silent. Oh how I miss the days of being told that Tannehill was elite and that Mario Williams was going to be the final piece to a dominant defense. Haha we all told you he’ll run up field and if there is no play in his lane you won’t hear his name. Where are the trolls? Phinsfan, Venerable axiom come back I want yo hear more stories about the ascension of Jay Ajayi and your top draft pick Gasmask Jones.

  7. This isn’t inside info and I’m just guessing here but Gase doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who will cut someone after a bad game if they’re putting the work in which may be why Thomas and Turner are gone. Pead probably wasn’t gonna get any playing time when Foster gets back anyway.

Steen played well when Pouncey was out so I expect he’ll be at LG if Tunsil’s ankle is still bad on Sunday. Urbik will be next man up after that.

Not all of them are silent, chippy has gone so far as to create yet another handle. He’s no posing as a Pats fan and has started dogging his own team.

  9. @handsatlanta….. Being here in houston i know all too well about foster. Trust me they shouldnt put their eggs in that basket. He will come back and then be gone to IR after two games.

  10. Not a dolphins fan, but did they expect to win it all this year or something? Cutting all these guys. Will that take the team to another level? You would think this is a building year for the phins with a new coach. Maybe try a new qb. just a thought.

    ==================

After they won the off season (again) and all their expectations were nothing short of duplicating ’72 (again).

  12. A different starting five on the o-line for every game so far this year has made playing the QB position impossible. With such a lack of protection I’m not surprised he’s shell shocked and even still standing. Too many smoothies on this team. The only real football player this team has is Rashad Jones.

  13. “Guys like Suh, Mario Williams Byron Mawell etc. making big $$$ and then coasting thru games shouldn’t be tolerated.”
    ________

True. But how does releasing a bunch of other guys solve that problem? Because if you think Suh is shook up over Isaiah Pead being cut you’re kidding yourself.

If these guys being released were attitude problems then good riddance. But it seems like poor play was a good chunk of it and that that brings up the question of why the Dolphins had so many bad players on the roster to begin with and/or weren’t able to coach them up any better. One of the released lineman started all 16 games for them last year yet they just now figured out he wasn’t worthy of being on their roster?

  14. As a Pats fan all i can say is good grief!

Well at least the Dolphins had a perfect season, my team choked it all away with 35 seconds left, man that 18-1 season is a nightmare that just won’t go away.

Good luck Dolphin fans, hope we win down there on new years day since we’ve dropped 3 in a row in Miami.

By definition, a troll is someone who is a fan of another team who comments on other teams stories in an effort to generate an argument, i.e yourself. While I’ve never left, I’ve also never made any such comments knowing this would be a transition year. I actually think this is good and wise by the team. By the way, Ajayi has been doing well and while I don’t know who “gasmask jones” is, I assume your talking about Tunsil, who is also doing well (at least when he gets out of the shower without injury).

  16. “But how does releasing a bunch of other guys solve that problem?”

Well they really CAN’T cut Suh, Maxwell etc. for cap reasons, though I’m sure they’d love a do-over on those monster deals. Certainly you’re correct that Suh knows he’s safe and isn’t worried, but many of Suh’s teammates are NOT safe, and they WILL be worried. If they’re worried they’ll be all over Suh to quit dogging it and dragging the team down

“One of the released lineman started all 16 games for them last year yet they just now figured out he wasn’t worthy of being on their roster?”

True, but that was under a different coaching staff. Even so it’s likely they cut them because they didn’t see them getting any better, and would rather identify/develop guys w/ upside, even if they aren’t as good initially. Little early, but its the kinda thing you see on bad teams late in the season w/ no hope for playoffs.

  17. I liked the idea of Pead’s potential, but except for a few flashes he had shown nothing.
He’s the 5th string RB. Plain and Simple.
Foster will be available for a handful of games.
    Ajayi is serviceable, at best.
    D. Williams, & Kenyon Drake are 3rd & 4th.

You don’t need that many RBs if your OL can’t run block.

Big deal, got rid of the 5th string RB.
Other teams it would barely make a newsworthy ripple, but the vultures are circling the Fins, and any piece of meat they find is a big deal.

  18. Looks like the annual event has already starting in Miami getting ready for the 2017 NFL draft!

    Has anyone seen chippy?

  19. Those are the worst Uniforms ever.

How can you play confidentally when the owners wife dressed you like a DB(I assume as no hetero man would choose those)?

  20. Really can’t blame the other teams fans for laughing at the Fins. Example… Tunsil gets hurt on game day in the shower? Dose that really happen? The Bengals game was joke and you back that performance up with the Tennessee game? The local H.S. team here was more fun to watch.

  21. It’s a shame no one with a clue has had Ross’s ear during the entire time he’s owned the team. He listens to one imbecile after another.

The team is garbage, so Tannenbaum can’t do too much more damage before Ross finally gets around to firing him………….after the 2019 season.

No Chessbeforecheckers I have not unlike some others. Phins are down and the patriots are in their most successful period. I get that but they have also been caught in 2 cheating scandals. Coincidence?

  24. @chippy,

actually glad to be done with baseball so I don’t have to listen to that idiot’s Mazz baseball show from 6-7PM and now sports radio in Boston can focus on the best team in all of sports OUR New England Patriots !!!!

Glad to see you have survived the hurricane and look forward to your dumb banter next season since in Miami it is time to bone up for the draft as the Phins have a lot of holes and you also need to draft a QB since Tannenhill has proved he is destined to be a backup QB like Tim Hassleback. Dolphins fans really don’t have much to say this season or the past 8+ seasons!

Best team in all of sports??
Now I know where Brady hid all the hot air from #deflategate

    My Dolphins suck. Badly.
Ross should have never hired Tannenbaum.
Moving Dawn Aponte will be felt in bad future contracts.
No consistency with coaches, drafting philosophies or player development, there’s more dysfunction than a Presidential debate.
We do however have an owner that’s willing to spend his own money. So there’s hope that he will finally hire the right football minded people.

I admire what the Patriots have built.
Bellichick is an evil genius, who shows no loyalty or compassion if you can’t help him win. That’s football. It’s a battle, and NE has built a formidable war machine. Not indomitable, not perfect but it’s a well oil machine as long as B & B are its leaders.

At the end of the day though, Mr. Bundchen still makes less than his wife, Kraft goes to sleep bothered by the fact that he’s envious of the Owner of the Jaguars bank account, his once pristine franchise is now known for cheating and murder’s than being an iconic dynasty and this “best team in all of sports” hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 2005!!!
    Lol

(Yes we know the Patriots were awarded the trophy a few years back. But I think we can all agree that was gift wrapped by Pete Carroll and actually decided by an unknown DB while precious Tom Brady was on the bench wondering how to explain a third consecutive Super Bowl loss to his wife)

See you at the meaningless game at the end of the year.

Mario Williams, kilo Alonso, and arian foster..among other high paid free agents, are stealing money.>>>>>>>>>>>>
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Those 3 contracts don’t amount to nothing – compared to Suh & Tannehills bloated contracts!
Mario’s deal is $17 million – but only only 1 year is guaranteed & heavy with incentives
Kiko is the other half of a trade & much improved
over what he was in Phili, and that doofus Maxwell.
    Foster was a “band-aid on bullet wound” at best – I don’t
think anybody realistically thought he could go 16 games without getting hurt.
Remember the person that deserves the most blame ( besides Ross) is Tannenbaum – he’s the mastermind behind ALL of the last 2 seasons FA signings & FA losses!
