The Jets filled the roster spot vacated by wide receiver Eric Decker’s move to injured reserve by signing a player off of the Jaguars practice squad.

The team announced that they have signed cornerback Nick Marshall. They acquired wide receiver Jeremy Butler on waivers Tuesday and waived kick returner Jeremy Ross.

Marshall joined the Jaguars as an undrafted rookie in 2015 and played in 13 games last year. He had 13 tackles and one pass defense while making one start for Jacksonville. The Jets were missing cornerback Darrelle Revis in Week Five as the veteran dealt with a hamstring injury suffered against the Seahawks in Week Four.

Last year was Marshall’s first on the defensive side of the ball. He was a quarterback at Auburn, leading the offense for the 2014 SEC champions and taking the team to the national title game. The Jets haven’t gotten what they hoped to get from Ryan Fitzpatrick this year, but Marshall should be staying on defense with three other quarterbacks already on the depth chart behind Fitzpatrick.
