The Colts have made several changes to the makeup of their defense in the last couple of weeks and they continued tweaking the roster on Thursday.

The team announced that they have signed linebacker Chris Carter and promoted cornerback Frankie Williams from their practice squad. They released cornerback Antonio Cromartie and linebacker Sio Moore last week and activated defensive tackle Arthur Jones after his four-game suspension.

Carter was a fifth-round pick by the Steelers in 2011 and played one game for the Colts in 2014 during his travels around the league. He’s also seen time with the Bengals and Ravens, who released him when they claimed guard Billy Turner off of waivers earlier this week. Carter had two tackles in five appearances before his release.

Williams signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in the offseason and returned to the practice squad after being released in the initial cut to 53 players. Linebacker Trevor Bates and tackle Jeremy Vujnovich were waived in corresponding moves.
