The Saints have claimed rookie quarterback Joe Callahan via waivers from the Packers.

The Packers waived Callahan Thursday. He had made the team -- and apparently made an impression on the Saints -- with a strong preseason showing. Callahan is an undrafted rookie who played Div. III college football at Wesley.

The Saints had been going with just Drew Brees and Luke McCown at quarterback on the active roster since cutting Garrett Grayson, a second-year player who’s on the practice squad.

The Saints cut veteran tackle Khalif Barnes to create room on the roster for Callahan.
