Antonio Brown remembers Kimbo Slice, Jose Fernandez on shoes

Steelers receiver Antonio Brown has made a habit of wearing shoes memorializing deceased sports heroes this season, and he’ll do it again, with a local twist, on Sunday in Miami.

Brown posted on Twitter the shoes he’ll wear on Sunday, and they have the images of two deceased Miami athletes, Kimbo Slice and Jose Fernandez, on them.

Kimbo Slice was the name used by Kevin Ferguson, a mixed martial arts fighter who began brawling in backyards in Miami before becoming one of America’s most famous fighters. He died of heart failure in June at the age of 42.

Fernandez was a Miami Marlins pitcher who defected from Cuba to Florida, won the National League rookie of the year award in 2013 and died in a boating accident last month at the age of 24.

Brown has also worn shoes with the images of Muhammad Ali and Arnold Palmer on them. The NFL strictly regulates what its players can wear on the field, and so Brown can only wear the shoes during pregame warmups.
