You don’t want to face Andy Reid after a bye week.
Reid, the Chiefs’ head coach, had his team ready to play with two weeks to prepare today on a rainy, muddy day in Oakland, and Kansas City won easily, 26-10.
In his years as coach of the Chiefs and Eagles, Reid is now an incredible 16-2 after bye weeks. Reid has said that he spends his bye weeks doing self-scouting, and whatever he does, he does it very well.
Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith was methodical and efficient, completing 19 of 22 passes for 224 yards, and running back Spencer Ware added 24 carries for 131 yards on the ground. Jamaal Charles had his first touchdown since last year’s knee injury, although he had just nine carries for 33 yards overall, and he doesn’t appear ready to move ahead of Ware on the depth chart just yet.
The Raiders got a big game from Amari Cooper, who had 10 catches for 129 yards, but little else worked on offense. It was a disappointing effort for an Oakland team that had an opportunity to take control of the AFC West.
Instead, the Chiefs improve to 3-2, the Raiders fall to 4-2, and the AFC West is wide open.
