Washington willing to wait until after bye to decide on Josh Doctson

Washington first-rounder Josh Doctson definitely won’t practice this week, and the team probably won’t make a decision on his status until after the bye week in early November.

According to Rich Tandler of CSNMidAtlantic.com, coach Jay Gruden gave a clear “no” when asked if Doctson would be able to practice leading up to this weekend’s game against the Lions.

Doctson has been limited with an Achilles injury, and has been inactive the last four games. Gruden admitted putting the first-round pick on injured reserve was a possibility, even though that would keep him from being able to practice. But for the time being, they’re hoping rest and rehab and immobilizing the injury helps.

I’m frustrated for him, I feel bad for him,” Gruden said. “He wants to play in the worst way. This is the most unique injury that people have seen. Can’t put a finger on why he’s having pain but he’s having pain. He wants to play and he’s not the same guy when he can’t push off because your Achilles is bothering you. We’ve got to get to the bottom of it but we’re more concerned about longevity right now. We want to make sure he gets well.”

They seem willing to wait as long as everyone else stays healthy, but if injuries cropped up elsewhere on the roster, they might not hang onto the spot for someone they aren’t sure will be able to contribute.
