The Chiefs announced last week that linebacker Justin Houston has been cleared to resume football activities after having surgery to repair an ACL injury this offseason, but Houston wasn’t allowed to return to practice until Week Six came to an end due to the rules governing players on the physically unable to perform list.

Week Six has come to an end and Houston is back at practice with the Chiefs.

“We need to see what he can do out here,” coach Andy Reid said.

Houston’s return to practice starts the clock on a 21-day period that the Chiefs have to add Houston to their 53-man roster or else shut him down for the season. Reid said he thinks it is unlikely that Houston will be ready to go for this week’s game against the Saints, but added that the team isn’t looking for an immediate return to the lineup as much as getting him ready to help the team over the second half of the year.
