Report: Eddie Lacy back up to 255-265 pounds

So much for Eddie Lacy’s weight loss.

Lacy, the Packers running back who was called out by coach Mike McCarthy last season for being overweight, spent much of the offseason working on trimming down. And that reportedly worked, with Lacy getting close to his target weight of 231 pounds, which is what he weighed at the Scouting Combine before the Packers chose him in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft.

Now Lacy has apparently gained all the weight back. ESPN reports that Lacy is back to his 2015 playing weight of 255 to 265 pounds. That suggests he lost around 30 pounds early in the offseason and then gained around 30 pounds in just the last few months.

Despite that extra girth, Lacy got off to a good start this season, carrying 71 times for 360 yards, with a career-high 5.1 yards a carry. Unfortunately, Lacy is now expected to miss a few games with an ankle injury, which may make it even harder for him to shed the excess weight.

  1. All fat jokes and Packer jokes aside.. He moves incredibly well for an enormous man. I’ve seen him hurdle 4 or 5 guys this year. I would think that carrying that weight as a RB would significantly decrease the longevity of your career though.

  2. Called it. P90x is such an infomercial product design for immediate short term results. It does very little to encourage and sustain long term success. It was silly for an NFL player to use it when they are first rate trainers and dietitians at their disposal.

Of course Lacy being back in the Bay does not help either.

  3. Just going to sit back and watch the Vikes trolls knock themselves out on this one. They are like Iggles trolls except without the intentional humor, doesn’t mean they aren’t funny though.

    Stop hurting my feelings.

  5. Was funny listening to commentators talk about his “hurdles” which consisted of jumping 10 inches off the ground over a player.

    He looks doughy.

  6. I could believe Lacy is at 255. I also don’t believe he was anywhere near that number last year. I would say 270 minimum. He also wasn’t anywhere near 231 this past offseason either. Right now, he is roughly where he was his first two seasons.

  7. More weight = more ankle problems = less activity = more weight = more ankle problems

That’s a tough cycle he’s in. He has the ability to be a top RB in this league but not sure he will ever really get there.

  8. Pack has a lot of underperforming, high-paid vets who should be shed in January, including Peppers, Lacy, Adams and Richard Rodgers.

  9. He reminds me of Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, who did just fine at a high weight. He may not be fast, but people don’t want to tackle him.

The problem with Eddie now is he’ll be sitting around the house waiting for that ankle to heal. And when Eddie sits around the house, he sits AROUND the house!

  10. This toad must be an eating machine and can’t stay out of the refrigerator. It may be time for the Packers to fish or cut bait with Lacy.

  11. Ok. I would like to retract my previous statement. Just watched clips of Lacy as a rookie. He weighs a hell if a lot more now. Not as much as last year, but much more than 3 years ago. He is in the Bret bielema diet. The one where you stop drinking coffee and replace it with coffee flavored gravy.

  12. No jokes from this Viking fan, but once Lacy’s career is over and the exercise he does will undoubtedly decline dramatically, the sky will be the limit as to how much weight he will put on.

  13. What is he going to weigh if he can’t run much or play for a month? Has the NFL ever had a 300 lb running back? if not we may see one soon.

As a Packer fan all I can say is Eddie you are blowing it in a contract year and I wonder if the team will just move on from you.

  14. Don’t rag on P90X. Fitness is a lifestyle choice and P90X is an excellent tool.

If you think that the program ends at the end of 90 days, that’s your problem. Got to stay with it. 5 days a week for the rest of your life.

OR– blame others for your problems. That seems to be working out great!

  15. Question: Do you want to play football and make millions of dollars? If so keep your weight at a reasonable level, don’t get fat.

Answer: Hmm, let me thing about it. I’ll get back to you after dinner.

  16. Some of this blame falls on the Packers…they have had him on a daily basis since returning for camp and all they have done is watch his weight go up???Should have been on him like stink on dudu to stay in shape…….Obviously Lacy doesn’t care isnt he in a contract year????

  17. I hate the Packers.

But I also hate seeing a young person struggling to overcome their own personal demons. Adding an injury to it just makes it that much more difficult.

    Good luck Mr. Lacy.

    Classic!

  19. Must listen and respect your Tony Hortonisms

Hamburger bad fries bad, coca-cola bad…
Tip of the day…Don’t Smash Your Face
The mother of all P90X workouts
I’m pushing my own personal pause button

  20. I never bought into him losing a lot of weight, anyway. Lacy is what he is. He’s a guy who will never be in top shape and always will be too heavy. He will have a short career in the NFL, and when it’s over, he’ll balloon to an enormous weight which will sadly shorten his life.
It’s too bad he isn’t a Major League baseball player. They have plenty of guys in that sport who are fat and out of shape.
One thing is clear, RB will be a high priority for the Packers in next year’s draft.

  21. Now THAT’S the Bread-ey Cakes-ey that we all know and love.

And this is what happens to ‘Bama players who get subjected to all that outdoor air conditioning up North – they eat like there’s no tomorrow.

  22. yes, all the predictions from “the purples” are coming true… erin is regressing, ed is fat and can’t stay in shape, jared cook is injury prone and a bad FA signing, jordy was not the reason the offense stinks, clay is the most overrated player in the NFL, MM sucks, ol ted can’t build a roster and relies on rodgers to win, offense is built on free plays and drawing penalties, the WR’s aren’t as good as the packer fans claimed. Seems like the purples know the state of the packers more than their knowledgeable fans do

  23. He’s NOT fat… compared to guys like Jared Lorenzen (the Pillsbury throwboy). I bet Trump would have a few words to say about his weight gain. Good thing he ain’t running for Miss Universe!

  24. But but but i thought Packer fans said he’s going to be a hof and they’re going back to Super Bowl. Once fat will always be fat. Wow, every one in the Packers are declining.

  25. This season is a nightmare for the Pack. Time for some coaching/personnel changes next year. Big ones. Any one seen Clay Matthews?

  26. How do you gain weight going to practice, dealing with travel, etc? In fact, most guys worry about losing weight during the season.

His problem is between the ears and no longer a laughing matter.

  27. This is my issues with all these fad diets. Yes they take off the pounds. For now. But once you try to live your life again it all comes back. I really am wondering too that Earl Campbell was never lean either. But things worked out for him in football. Not so much later in life though

  28. the only real issue i see with his weight is that it seems his ankles cant handle it.. if you run well at the higher weight it shouldnt matter .. and even last year the reality was he wasn’t getting touches, still averaged over 4 yards per carry.. then GB hads it off to Stark in the redzone? that doesnt make sense Eddie is what he is, use him to his strengths instead of making him what he is not.. I dont remember Jerome Bettis dealing with questions about his weight all the time, mean while Eddie is tearing it up on a hurt ankle

    +++++++++++

AFC guy so no horse in the race but something those of us on the outside know is it’s one thing to act superior as though your team has won it all and another thing to know what it’s like when they actually have.

He does move well, better than most could at that weight. But, his “hurdles” are little more than lifting his legs as he’s running. In the replays, his body from the waist up, stays at the same level as he lifts his legs and defenders dive under him.

  31. remember when all the knowledgeable packer fans said ed lacy > leveon bell??
    ——-
Whose got more yards this year? Whose got more yards since entering the league? Is Bell more talented than Lacy? Maybe, but availability is important so just going by the numbers Lacy is ahead.

PX90 doesn’t cure food addictions. That’s the real treatment he needs.

If you look for the Tony Horton interviews about Eddy Lacy, he believes excess alcohol is just as much to blame.

  33. Ahhhhhh it must be good to bask in that viking dynasty.

Win a couple regular season games and you guys have crowned yourselves already.

Or its really true that you worry more about Packer losses than viking wins?

Never winning anything really does lower your standards.

  34. We still love Eddie around here. As we love ourselves. And so does Applebee’s. Both of them.

  35. I don’t care what his weight is. I do care that he’s averaging over 5 yards per carry and looks dominating every game. I hope he gets healthy quickly.

  36. this is one of the funniest storylines i have ever read

how many meals does this guy eat and what is he eating?

pizza, ice cream and beer diet?

how can you be a pro player and gain weight to that degree in season?

  37. Lookit! Stop with the Eddie is fat routine. There have been a lot of excellent fat RBs. I can name a few; Bus Bettis, Cookie Gilchrist, Larry Csonka. Admittedly they are rare these days, because the RB position has been so devalued in the modern NFL. But some people like a slice of quiche and salad for supper. While some like 10 cheeseburgers with fries.

  38. Eddie fits in here. Just as Mike does. We accept them.

It’s our standards. And we live up to them.

  39. With Eddie’s stomping running style and Aaron’s passes into the ground, we’re gonna have a shortage of worms here.

  40. This is just way too easy to bite on. If he can’t keep his weight down in a structured football environment, there must be some pretty significant psychological issues at play.

  41. I never seen a running back with a “pear shaped” body before until i saw Lacy on the sideline when they was checking out his ankle. when i saw that, the first thing i thought was that he must have gained that weight back.

  42. Cant stand the packers ..or mainly their fan base, but i’ll say this, Lacy is a good running back, …man that was harder then I thought, I know when the vikes play against GB, Lacy usually has a solid game, that being said, with injuries over the past two seasons, I think that’s his body telling him he is playing too heavy, JMO, he is a load and surprisingly quick, but yea If he cant keep his weight down he will quickly turn into T.J Duckett and only be a goal line guy.

  43. He’ll put on another 15-20 tonight eating ribs, chicken wings and chips while he watches his team play without him.

  44. At the start of training camp I read where Lacy’s so called fitness guru did not weigh him. Really?

Just how can you judge any sucess without a know starting point.

Recently Lacy joked he was not put on a diet but his whole regiment was to learn to eat less, same pizza just less slices. Ya that works some. And thats all he lost, some.

You have to put some stupidity on the part of the team. They banked there wad on this guy, cutting two promissing running backs and going with Starks and a full back thinking, they got eddy that is all they need.

It would be funny to see DA bears beat them tonight.

  45. My expectation after the media reports of Lacy’s weight in the off season was that he’d come in slimmer since this was a contract year. He’d stay reasonably thin for the year and if he was going to blow back up again, it would be after this year is done and he got paid.

The fact that he’s putting the weight back on despite the financial consequences tells me he might have a legitimate problem. I hope that’s not the case because the guy is a very good running back, even at this weight and I’m not aware of any reasons to think that he’s anything other than a good, decent human being.

If he does have a problem, hopefully he can get some help with it and not have his career hurt by it.

  46. WOrd is out Lacy to go on IR for surgery. Wonder what he will blossum to once that is done? 275, 280.
Dumb ass packers will hope he comes back next year. Ya like he wont be over weight again and not available for a good part of the season.
His ankles cannot handle all the weight and he doesnt seem to care about the weight. Him first, food second, team third.

  47. For all the folks talking about the 5.1 ypc average…

That is for 71 carries this season only.

His weight has limited his carries to 14 per game.

Eddie has never had a season with more than a 4.6 ypc average.

His total yards rushing has gone down every year. Same thing for his TD’S per season.

    His weight is a problem.

And in case you haven’t noticed, it’s fans of all teams commenting about his weight issue.

  48. Unless you have a severe medical issue, you almost have to try to gain 30 lbs in that short amount of time. I weigh less but close to his goal weight, and I could probably eat supersize fast food meals multiple times a day and not gain 30 pounds in a few months. I’ve gained (or lost) like 10 lbs in a week before but it was almost all water weight. The maintenance calories alone to be a sedentary adult man carrying 200+ lbs are a lot. And that’s someone sitting at a desk most of the time.

  49. News Flash to McCarthy and Packers! Stop trying to make Lacy into a scat back. Embrace his inner 275 lbs and make him a big bruising Fullback in a 2 back setup. Take it back to the Taylor and Hornung style with Lacy and Cobb in the backfield. And Rodgers slinging it to a bevy of WR’s and Tight Ends. That may work much better. Especially Since Aaron is “a little off” right now too.
