Joe Staley is available, too

There are a couple of not-so-average Joes with no-so-average jobs who are available to change employers in the next week or so.

In addition to Browns left tackle Joe Thomas, 49ers left tackle Joe Staley also could be had in trade.

Staley, drafted in the same round (first) of the same draft (2007) as Thomas, has been tied to the same teams that have some degree of interest in Thomas: Vikings, Giants, Cardinals, Seahawks and, if the 49ers are willing to take whatever they can get, the Patriots.

While the Browns would deal Thomas for a second-round pick, a source with knowledge of the dynamics tells PFT the 49ers are angling for a first-round pick from a contender for Staley, which likely would come late in the round.

Staley, 32, is under contract through 2019. His base salary spikes from $5.4 million this year to $8.25 million in 2017.

The trade window closes on Tuesday, November 1 at 4:00 p.m. ET.

  1. Why doesn’t Trent Baalke just barricade the doors and gas all the players at halftime? Its obvious he’s trying to destroy whatever’s left of the team. Quit screwing around

  2. If the Browns got rid of Thomas, they’d have to sign ten more quarterbacks this year alone. He’s the only thing keeping the qb’s alive at this point.

  3. The Niners are very near to hitting rock bottom.

Of course, they will stay there unless baalke and or york goes.

  4. Why anyone thinks Chip Kelly is a good NFL coach is puzzling to me. He is now 8-18 in his last 26 games as a head coach and his gimmick cue card college offense simply does not work at the NFL level. The Niners may very well go 1-15 this year

  5. Chip isn’t likely to go anywhere, until he fulfills his current deal with these cheapskate Owners.
They’re already paying for a huge mistake from last year.
Tomsula will be counting $14Mil-worth of dead Presidents while fishing for a long time.
Joe deserves a better situation than this flaming dumpster fire of a Franchise at the very least.
    He’s earned it.

  6. Trent Baalke is an unmitigate disaster. Joe is far & away the most consistent offensive player the Niners have. To trade him for a Baalke free agent pick is pathetic.

  7. Good player but they aren’t getting a 1st rounder for a 32 year old. Also, the Patriots are only being mentioned to drive the price up – they bargain hunt at this time of year.

  8. Spielman wants to keep his picks, I get it. But holy crap! The vikes are stacked and set to win, minus the worst overpaid o-line in professional sports.

The Joe’s are proven solid starters. Deal the second rounder spielman!

  9. Wait, isn’t this the same offensive line that ariani said would all go to the pro bowl?? Viking’s fans were bragging about the off season moves that would shore up the line and make them the class of the NFL!!! LOL!

  10. I love Zimmer calling out the coaches. He’s awesome. This is who we have, we won 5 games with them, now fix it.

He is exactly what the Vikings need.

You act like this is the Offensive Line they started the season with. Both starting tackles are on the IR, the right guard and left guard have both missed time. your comment has 0 merit when dealing with back ups and FA signees off the scrap heap to replace injuries
