Browns’ depth chart lists Kevin Hogan as first-string quarterback

Cleveland may be in store for yet another quarterback change.

The Browns’ official depth chart this week lists Kevin Hogan as the first-string quarterback. Joe Callahan, claimed on waivers yesterday, is listed as the second-string quarterback. Josh McCown, who is still recovering from a broken collarbone, is third, while Cody Kessler, who suffered a concussion on Sunday, is listed as fourth.

Hogan’s spot atop the depth chart doesn’t mean he’s going to start on Sunday against the Jets, but it does indicate that he’d be the starter if the Browns had to play today. If Hogan does start he’d be the Browns’ fourth different starting quarterback this season, following Robert Griffin III, McCown and Kessler.

After Kessler suffered his concussion on Sunday, Hogan came in and showed impressive rushing ability, catching the Bengals by surprise with his feet and carrying seven times for 104 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, Hogan wasn’t as successful passing the ball: He completed just 12 of 24 passes for 100 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

  1. Joe Callahan. Watch this kid. He’ll be the next starter. Great pickup by the Browns.

  2. Hey, if the Cubs can make it to the World Series in my lifetime, maybe the Browns will make it to their big game to.
    Hang in their Browns fans.
    Hopefully your day will come.

  3. They are taking “next man up” to an ultra level!!! Browns should be the NEW America’s team. There’s a good chance we all will be playing QB at some time for them!

  4. At first glance I thought it was Bo Callahan. Would’ve been a risky move as his teammates didn’t go to his birthday and he was basically traded twice by the same GM on draft day.

  5. I’d be thrilled if the Browns beat the Jets.
The Jets need a QB and the way to do that is by losing and drafting high.

    Go Browns!

  6. .
The Browns roster consists primarily of first and second year guys. However, they play hard for Hue Jackson. If they had caught a couple of breaks, they’d have a few wins.
    .

  7. At this point let Hulk Hogan QB the team. Hulkamania will run wild on the Jets!

I lived through 0 – 16 in Detroit and it looks like we might have the second entry into the record books for a winless team the way thins thing is playing out in Cleveland.

  8. waynefontesismyfather: Don’t be so sure. I say the Santa Clara Social Justice Warriors catch and pass the Browns in the loss column before the season ends

  9. Crazy to think… If the Indians win the World Series and the Steelers win the Superbowl ALL THE TROPHIES from the 4 major pro sports for 2016 will reside in Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Cleveland: MLB & NBA Pittsburgh: NHL & NFL

  10. Other potential 1st string quarterbacks:

    – Bowl of cereal
    – A lightly used sponge
    – 3 old footballs
    – Socks
    – An old mop
    – Kevin Hogan

The Jets do have two drafted QB’s. They just refuse to play them and rely on unreliable Fitz.

  12. No matter who you root for, you have to feel bad for these guys. Just can’t catch any good fortune.

Never thought Kevin Hogan would be that high…

Oh god, are we really at the Callahan is a great pickup point already?

I am, and I’m not even a Browns fan; although I would very much like to see them win it all sooner rather than later.

I think most, if not all, of my fellow Packer fans would also say Callahan is a great pickup.

And the stadium will still be packed.

And that’s why I want to see the Browns win it all sooner rather than later. Their fans just flat-out deserve it, probably more so than any other fan base. Long & storied history, always passionate, yet always respectful; not to mention what was done to them by Art Modell.

Browns fans always respectful? They stopped serving glass bottles at all the stadiums because of Browns fans. You must have forgot the game where the fans were throwing their glass bottles onto the field. The refs had to call the game with 40 something seconds left.

That just shows that they are passionate and loyal. Furthermore they were robbed by the refs and thus their protest is somewhat understandable.
