Jaguars owner meets with players and coaches

Jaguars owner Shad Khan wants to know what’s going on.

According to the Associated Press, Khan met with players and coaches Monday, asking “why are we not winning and what can we do to fix it?

Khan has generally been upbeat and low-profile, but his team is now 14-40 under coach Gus Bradley, and Sunday’s embarrassing home loss to the Raiders included two ejections, one player penalized for a racial slur and way too many flags in general.

Khan reportedly had an open forum, where players and coaches were encouraged to talk about the problems the franchise had, and why they didn’t make the leap so many expected (including someone who picked them to go to the playoffs).

What makes this meeting a concern for everyone with a job there is it’s the second time in a month he spoke to the team. He talked to them prior to their London game, and they responded with a win that time.

If they don’t Thursday night against the Titans, it’s worth wondering how many of the participants in Monday’s meeting (other than Khan) will be around for the next one.

  1. The man has been extraordinarily patient. Chip Kelly was hired at the same time as Gus Bradley and his plus .500 record got him a ticket to a nightmare in San Francisco.

  2. “Jaguars owner Shad Khan wants to know what’s going on.”

I can name a few things:

    • Chris Ivory is super average at RB.
    • Your Color Splash Uniforms are garbage.
    • You are the Jaguars.

  3. It is daunting. The Jags are perhaps the most talented and under-achieving team in the 2016 season. They have all the elements that other teams on the rise (or are elite).

    a) A good, strong-armed QB that is relatively careful with the ball.

    b) A good 2-headed RB (though the fumbles have to stop)

    c) An elite WR corps

    d) A Defense that SHOULD be tearing it up.

Given these ingredients, the pie should be a tasty one… instead, when cutting into it so far this season…it is filled with spiders and worms. It seems to me, that the cook (the coaching staff) is to blame. The talent and the goods are there, Khan. Time to bring in a coach who can motivate and fix what’s wrong in the kitchen.

  4. Yeah maybe it has something to do with the team being 40 million dollars under the salary cap only the 9ers and Browns are more.

You’re a cheapskate Ross. You bought the team as a business investment to make money, not to win. Since you bought it I believe the team has been substantially under the cap every year.

You get what you pay for and you’re not paying for very many quality players.

40 million under the cap and he wonders why the team isn’t competing well. SMH

  5. “a) A good, strong-armed QB that is relatively careful with the ball.”

    Hahahahahahaha. Careful! Hahahahahahahaha.

  6. It was unbelievable to me that Gus still had a job *last* year. I know, I know, the conventional way of justifying his continued tenure as head coach was to say he inherited a *really* bad team.

But he also inherited several high draft picks and has had quite a few of his own to choose from since taking over in 2013.

I’m not a Chip Kelly fan, but the Eagles fired him after going 10-6, 10-6, and 7-9. That’s almost twice as many wins as Gus has had in the same amount of time, and Eagles ownership saw fit to depose him.

    Why is Gus still there?

    Sack him.

  7. There’s his approach and then there’s Jed’s approach of hiding out in his office and pretending everything is okay while your 49er team loses six in a row.

  8. At least you’re not as crappy as my Browns and rookie GM Sashi Brown.

But. At least the Browns have Hue.

  9. Why did Jacksonville ever get a professional football team? Does Florida need three NFL teams?

  10. The problem is these owners keep falling for the one – year – wonder coaches. The owners should look for new blood with fresh ideas instead of reshuffling from the same old bottle.

  11. If Khan, Arthur Blank & Stan Kroenke got together you’d think you were at a casting call for Boardwalk Empire villains.

    ===================

I don’t about Khan and Kroenke, but I read a book about Arthur Blank, and I couldn’t imagine him being anywhere as a villain. Before buying the Falcons, he and Bernie Marcus found themselves out work and families to support. They then started a store in Atlanta that would become Home Depot. Today, Home Depot employs thousands because of what Arthur started.

  12. Amazing how misguided/uninformed people are :

Blake Bortles has 44 INT’s in 36 games and has also fumbled quite a bit

  13. Love how the Sheep also love to go with how “talented” we are too….

I’ll let you in on a secret :

This years roster might have more “talent” than previous pathetic Jags rosters…but we dont play against our team from 2 years ago.

When you compare our current Talent to our opponents Talent every week this year….
TRUST ME – we are not more talented.

  14. Start by firing Greg Olson. Offense is way to predictable. Oakland’s defense was giving up 450+ yards per game prior to playing the Jaguars, and they shut them down. Watching a Jaguars game, I can call what the play will be about 98% of the time.

The only time the offense looks productive is when they run the hurry up offense. Maybe we should lead with that.

Dude it’s a joke, based just on appearance…yesh some folks have no humor, that’s the only reason I come here…

  16. It is all your culture, Mr. Khan. You have simply hired the wrong people to run you organization. Additionally, 60% of NFL success relates to your coaching staff. Probably a good place to start is your gm and coaching staff.

  17. It won’t be any better Thursday night. Titans will manhandle Jaguars. This season was another lost year when we got blown out of California to the Chargers. Now we have guys like Allen Robinson who gets stupid and doesn’t like being booed because the team sucks and he sucks, so he says the Wembly crowd is better. Yeah yeah duh! You won each of the last 2 games there that you’ve been in London allen. Everything is just peachy when you win. You should try how you’re received in Jax if you won pal. Sadly you’re having such a bad year along with the team, you wont experience what a win will feel like in Jax. Oh well… it’s college football season.

Hold all calls, we have a winner!

  19. The Jags can’t move. There will be nothing notable left in this city. Except crime of course.

  20. I only know two things about Khan He owns the Jags and he has a cool mustache. He could be the happy rich Uncle or a raging dictator, I don’t really care, but I do like him trying to figure out what’s wrong with his investment.

  21. Rarely does throwing money at free agency equate to wins. This should just about do it for Gus Bradley. Honestly, with this much talent on the roster, this will be a very attractive job…Jim Harbaugh could make short work of this in a division this bad.

  22. I usually don’t like to see anyone fired however after watching the Raiders kill the Jags that entire coaching staff needs to go.
Jags actually reminded me of The Raiders of 5-6 years ago
Oh and Bortles is garbage time to look for a good QB

  23. What’s wrong with the jaguars ?
    David Caldwell
    Gus Bradley
    Greg Olsen
    Doug Marone
Worst QB coach on the planet -Hackett
    Rest of the coaching staff
    Blake Bortle
The entire offensive line, yes, the entire group
How in the heck can anyone say this team is loaded with talent? It’s pitiful

  24. He should move to St Louis. They will welcome him with open arms and build him a stadium. Twice the viewers also and the city is hungry for a team. Jacksonville is a beat run down mess of a town

    Move em to Toronto!

    —————————————–

“Move em to Toronto”! Sure, move the Jags to a city that hasn’t supported football at ANY level for decades. Toronto has been the 4th largest city in North America for years but somehow the NFL seems to have survived without it. Stay away from Toronto NFL, it is a football wasteland. London sells out games while Toronto papered the house for the Bills in Toronto Series. Here come the standard excuses, 1,2,3……………………………………..

  26. If the NFL had awarded the expansion franchise to Baltimore instead of Jacksonville in 1993 like it should have, the Browns would have stayed in Cleveland and Jacksonville wouldn’t have a team and the NFL wouldn’t have to figure out where to move this sorry franchise. Nice work Paul Tagliabue!

  27. Jags “Talent” :

Bortles? not looking too talented this year. He has been HORRIBLE
Last year’s #1 pick Dante Fowler? – Doesnt start and jumps offsides every game
LT/LG Luke Joeckel former #2 overall? Really?
WR Allen Robinson? – last year YES This year NO
RB TJ Yeldon 2nd rd pick from last year? Doesnt do much at all…just a guy…

I could keep going…we have a few good players and Jalen Ramsey will be all pro but overall? No we are not “talented”

The story is about Shad Khan the owner of the Jaguars
NOT Stephen Ross -owner of the Dolphins!

  29. I posted earlier that this team is talented SBD that Jim Harbaugh would clean up in this division. Some folks saying this roster has no talent also indicated that the coaching staff sucks. IMO a good coaching staff should be able to do good things with a regular team who doesn’t have this many high round draft picks and high priced free agents. Imagine what a great coaching staff could do with this team. I’m not so sure I believe that all the high draft choices would be this bad without a great coaching staff. If I were a coach looking for a new job, this would be HIGHLY attractive to me. These guys are underachieving BIG TIME!

  30. Khan: “So guys, what’s wrong?”

Guys: “Well, the owner looks like frigging Gomez Adams (Raul Julia version) and nobody takes him seriously.”

Tom Coughlin will be back in Jacksonville soon.

    ——————————————————

    Good God I hope not…
I have Coughlin pegged for the Bills after Pegula finally fires Rex Ryan!

  32. They have players with a lot of potential, but they are still too young to expect them to lift the team.

But, since they reside in the AFC south, you might expect a quicker return on investment.

Then again they won their only divisional game so far so it can’t be that bad.

On the other hand they play 10 games against non divisional opponents, and I wouldn’t expect them to win at home vs. the Broncos and Vikings who are their only home games from the non divisional group. And winning away is a lot more difficult.

They were overrated to begin with, and this years schedule is much tougher than last years schedule.

  33. “Khan reportedly had an open forum, where players and coaches were encouraged to talk about the problems the franchise had…”

I’m surprised they’re not still talking.

  34. Borttles is relatively safe with the ball? You ever look at stats? Lolol bottles is awful and a turnover machine. Also on a side note malik jackson was a terrible signing
