Breaking news: Another Buccaneers running back gets hurt

The Buccaneers are going into a short week, and they’re going in short on running backs.

Already without Doug Martin and Charles Sims (who is on IR), the Bucs lost Jacquizz Rodgers in the second half of yesterday’s loss to the Raiders, and coach Dirk Koetter did not sound optimistic.

I don’t think it’s probably good,” Koetter said, via Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. “But I don’t know for sure. It’s something to do with his ankle.”

Rodgers had topped 100 yards in his previous two games, and had 69 yards on 19 carries yesterday before leaving. He was replaced by veteran Antone Smith, and the Bucs don’t have many other options, with a game against the Falcons looming on Thursday. Undrafted rookie Peyton Barber’s the only other running back on the roster at the moment.

Martin’s been out since Week Two with a hamstring injury.

  1. This year I’ve had Josh Gordon, Dez Bryant, Doug Martin, Arian Foster on my FF team. I picked up Jacquizz Rodgers a couple of weeks back. Now this. I’m having a great year!

  2. I don’t recall seeing injuries in the 80’s, 90’s, or early 2000’s like we’re seeing now. Think of how often Emmit Smith, Walter Payton, Ladanian Tomlinson carried without getting hurt. No wonder the product on the field is lacking. What is going on?

Fewer practices, shorter weeks with regular Thursday night games, more travel with multiple London games every season, and so on.

    I hate it, too.

  4. …The Buc’s were dumb enough to give Doug Martin that huge contract with a giant signing bonus…..he’s got his money & he doesnt care anymore. He played for his contract in 2015 & that’s why he played hard…….

  5. I am a long time (or is that long SUFFERING) Buc fan and I am not sure what is going on at Bucville lately with the injuries to running backs. Doug has been hurt for most of the last 3 years, Sims is out and now Jaquizz?? It’s been that way with the Bucs for years and their running backs. Cadillac Williams looked good several years ago and he got hurt and was never the same, LaGarrette Blount was with us for a while, got hurt and is now doing good at New England and everytime they get someone who looks like a good one, they get hurt. I am not sure who is in charge of conditioning there at One Buc Place, but they need to evaluate if they are doing a good enough job.

Of course, having a crappy OL might have something to do with it as well.

Would you mind posting who you pick up next? Just as a courtesy / warning to other FFB players?
    We all thank you.
    Better luck next year.

  7. Bucs always seem to have a lot of injuries especially during home games. Aaron Rodgers said it was due to the poor conditions of the field at Raymond James. Does the USF Bulls playing their home games at Ray J on Saturday’s cause poor field conditions?

  8. BAD news for the bucs because without the run they rely on a guy who can’t pass…

When a large part of your deep passes are basically hellmary lobs, you are no better than any other guy off the street throwing a football… Another #1 pick that does not live up to the pick!
