Jets “actively shopping” Sheldon Richardson

The Cowboys aren’t the only team that has gotten a call from the Jets.

Per a league source, the Jets are “actively shopping” Sheldon Richardson as the trade deadline approaches. The window closes at 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Richardson has become the odd man out, given the extension signed by Muhammad Wilkerson and the investment of a top-10 2015 pick in Leonard Williams. A history of off-field issues complicates the situation, since any team that trades for Richardson would have to be willing to take a leap of faith regarding his ability to stay out of trouble.

The presence of Wilkerson and Williams at defensive end has resulted in Richardson playing some linebacker, which he believes will make him more money. It’s becoming more and more clear the long-term money may not be coming from the Jets.

  1. Rex loves this guy…its a shame that the Jets won’t trade him to a divisional rival…

  2. He is a fantastic football player. The fact that he can play so effectively all over the front 7 in either a 3-4 or 4-3 speaks volumes to his talent.

The only knock on him remains the off the field issues. It still would have been ideal to keep him here with a deal containing plenty of offsetting language. Instead we have to remain saddled with Revis, who barring a Charles Woodson like resurrection at Free Safety seems done at the top level.

  3. i love how the Pats abuse jets on the field, as well as abusing them with Revis. Pats sign Revis , the Jets former best player ( who of course won nothing in new york), he helps Pats win a Super Bowl, with his last productive year. Then the jets pay an inflated, ridiculous price to get him back, after the Pats used up the best of what he had left. Now, Jets stink as always, and so does Revis. Gotta love it ! OH,, and the Pats will win #5 this year

  4. Saints need a DE in the worst way and Richardson would be a HUGE upgrade over what is currently on the roster other than Cam Jordan. Now with that said, and with Loomis still running the show, this trade will never happen because it just makes too much sense to do it.

  5. The Browns should trade for him. The Browns should scoop up Chandler Jones after the offseason too.

Cleveland should just invest 80% of its salary cap in defense, and then use all its draft picks on offense until they finally hit on a QB. If you draft 3 a year, eventually one will work out.

  6. The Lions could use him as a 3 technique. Bolster their run defense and pass rush. Gotta be worth a 4th round pick.

    Do something Baalke!!

I thought no one had it better than the 49ers? If that thought is still the direction, than the 49ers don’t need Richardson.

Trash Baalke will be gone after the year anyway. He’s in idle mode.

Sounds like a plan, but how about using the draft picks to pry Garoppolo away from the Pats??

  9. Deadline has passed and no trade. The only reason NYJ were looking to trade him was due to his likely big payday down the road. Can’t afford both him and Wilkerson when that day comes. Richardson is a beast and I would have been unhappy to have traded him for anything less than a 1st rounder — and yes I get that no one was going to offer that right now. But thinking anyone could get him for a 3rd or 4th round pick this year is downright laughable!

  10. So once again lord Baalke sets in his throne room doing nothing… Jamie Collins, Joe Haden, and Sheldon Richardson could’ve all been had in the last 2 days. For probably a 2nd, 3rd, and 6th total…. So in two days lord Baalke could have completely rehabbed the 49ers D. For 3 picks that will probably nab us 2 ACL injuries and a 6th rounder that probably shouldn’t have made his college team…. Nice. Real nice. Let’s just see if we can set the record for most games having gave up 200 yards rushing in a row.
