Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott named October’s top rookies

Ohio State had a pretty good football team last year, which was well illustrated at this year’s draft when five players from the school were taken in the first round.

The first two off the board played well enough in October to be named the top rookies on their respective sides of the ball. Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa, who was the third overall pick, took the honors on the defensive side of the ball while Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, who went a pick later, was the offensive choice.

Bosa’s NFL career got off to a delayed start thanks to a long wait for the two sides to agree on a contract and a hamstring injury suffered once he finally did sign, but he wasted little time showing why the Chargers picked him so early once he got on the field. Bosa has been a constant presence in opposing backfields, recording four sacks and disrupting a lot of other plays in his first four NFL appearances.

Elliott also played four games in October and his efforts leave him as the NFL’s top rusher halfway through the season. Elliott ran 88 times for 525 yards, providing the Cowboys with exactly the kind of production they were looking for when they made him their top draft choice and helping them win all four games they played during the month.

Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has done more than expected alongside Elliott on Dallas’ offense, which has raised hopes of a lot more wins to come as their careers unfold.

  1. Bosa is a certified BEAST. He is doing this cold by the way, with minimal camp and no preseason. The sky is the limit for him.

Just drop it with the jealousy and stupid uninformed comments. I’m sorry your running back is 40 and your team is in a complete free fall

    Keep feeding Zeke

  3. Bosa is the real deal. People who doubted him most likely didn’t watch too many Buckeyes games. The kid is legit.

  4. O.K. I was wrong. Bosa’s not a bust. McCoy however is a bust. Check this out. Against the Bronco’s the Chargers are on the 2 yard line with 4 downs to cash-in. They place Rivers in the shot gun with NO back. HELLO, RIVERS CAN’T RUN! San Diego’s receiver corps is decimated without Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead, Steve Smith, Steve Williams, etc.. Now remember the Chargers are playing against the #1 pass defense in the NFL. Also, coach McCoy was OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR for the Bronco’s working with the #1 quarterback of all time Payton Manning! Now get this…Whisenhunt calls 4 straight OBVIOUS passing plays in a compressed area despite the above scenario and the fact that Rivers has been beaten up, knocked down and sacked. My question is why didn’t McCoy step in and huddle with WHIZ and excercise his authority and call something that might allow SD to score? Just adding a back for disguise would’ve helped. McCoy is a fine man, but with a 7 for 24 record over 2 years say’s “YOU ARE WHAT YOUR RECORD SAYS YOU ARE!” Sad.

  5. so far only rogerstonelson has the guts to admit he was wrong about bosa…any one else???????????

Hi, my name is ScrimshawTurtle and I was a Joey Bosa doubter. It’s been two weeks since my last doubt.

  7. What a fantastic TOP 5 this year. Goff being the exception.

    Wentz is ballin’
    Bosa is sackin’
    Ezekiel is cruisin’
    Ramsey is lockin’ down

Elliot is headed to the Super Bowl, and then to the HOF. Bosa probably won’t see a playoff game in his career.

Don’t underestimate the value of holding that clipboard, avoiding taking a beating in that terrible offense, and biding your time in L.A..

  10. I’ll admit, after the whole contract saga with Bosa I was looking forward to watching him fail, as I’m sure a lot of fans were….. but that dude is a monster!!!

If not for injuries the Bolt’s would probably be sitting at 5 or 6 wins, that defense is legit with Bosa in there causing havoc.

  11. Everyone is talking about Bosa. I want to know where ALL the posters are who were laughing about the ‘Boys taking Zeke 4th??? 🙂 🙂 🙂

  12. I heard all August that “Bosa sucks”. What’s up with that? Does this award mean he doesn’t suck?

  13. Although it worked out great i was crushed when the chargers traded in front of dallas. I thought then as i think now he was the number 1 pick in the draft. I fully believe the Cowboys would actually be better with mcfadden/Morris and Bosa at DE.

  14. Everyone knows that it was the weasel mara convincing king roger of crippling dallas and washington for two years financially for nothing. I truly believe elliott gets suspended……right before the giants game
